So, with the game sure to fall into the hands of Japanese players today, I thought I'd make this topic so we can post any info we have about the game, from playing it ourselves or from information we read online. I know Serebii will be playing it soon, so that's one source already.

Ya know, with Gen V coming out soon, makes me wonder if possibly a Gen V Pokemon is locked away amongst the data for an event later on. Y'know, like how Manaphy was in Ranger 1. Of course, that's probably just me being stupidly hopeful.

First off, found the Famitsu Score on Gamefaqs. Got a 36/40, 9/9/9/9, from the reviewers so that's pretty neat. I think that's higher than all the other spin-offs. Maybe even some of the main games. :0

It's so weird, because I hated Ranger 1 but LOVED Ranger 2. It was all because of that one change to the health system the Pokemon had. No more having to draw 20+ circles in one go. really excited about this game.

Hmm, well, I thought that was more of a speculation topic while this is a topic for actual information of the game now that is released. Kind of like how we have a preview thread for an Anime episode, and then a thread when it airs. Plus that topic was 3 pages back and I didn't see it.

If you didn't see the topic, how come you thought it was more of a speculation topic?

I was under the impression that Ranger 3 released tomorrow

Simple. I remembered that we had a Ranger Tracks of Light Thread that was mostly filled with speculation, but I didn't see it on the first two pages so I thought starting a new one wouldn't be a problem if it was focused on actual discussion of the released game.

If a mod thinks that this is in the wrong, then they can delete it.

Huh...well, I saw on Serebii that he'd have information on it up by today, and some people on Gamefaqs said they already had it, so I assume it's been obtained by some people.

I would not question leaks except that this was not a major enough release to warrant such. I'll keep a look out for anything, though.

same! i liked the characters & such, but something about the first game just pissed me off. shadows of almia was awesome though, and i'm really excited for this one too~~

Is the title Locus of Light, or Tracks of Light?

No matter. Those are just a different translations of the same title.

It's "Hikari no Kiseki", if we want to be precise.

Also, I'm now playing the new Ranger game. And I'm DELIGHTED by the fact that it begins with ACTION. Not with a boring introduction, as previous versions. There's action since the very beginning! As for the negative side - too many unskippable cutscenes.

Those are my initial feelings. They're very good so far. Wonder how it'll change as I progress through the game. But as I'm playing on the *ekhm* copy, it'll be hard to go too far. It's hard to control the touchscreen, you know.

To be honest, the only time I've seen "Locus" was on Bulbapedia. And at first I thought that was merely the title of the Anime special.

Also, I hope the US version has great dialogue like Ranger 2. That was the best part.

There's a lot of second and fourth gen pokes running around. Serebii says that assists don't make the poke leave, and there is a new mechanic where the poke you're trying to capture gets angry, and causes it to lose friendship points. You can only use an assist to snap it out of it.

My copy just arrived in the mail. Right now, I'm on Rainbow Island.

Like Maxim said, the game starts you off with action. Before you even land on the first island, you're given two mini-games: one is to dodge the plasma attacks from the Pokemon Nappers UFO-like things by moving the hero around with your styler, and the second one has you catch up to a Tamanta after your Styler falls into the sea. This second game requires you to hold your DS vertically, like a book.

This game is also awesome because it lets you skip tutorials. This was one of the big problems that the second Ranger game had, so I'm glad to see that they've addressed that. It also lets you have up to seven pokemon follow you right off the bat.

Your Styler talks to you, giving you hints here and there, but it's never intrusive.

The graphics are superb, as expected. The water is rendered in 3D, and it actually looks pretty decent. Which is really amazing, actually, since water is one of the trickiest things to animate. The music is alright, but nothing's jumped out at me so far. I'm sure it'll just be a matter of time before I'm able to hum some of the game's tunes, however.

Nice to hear how it's turning out.

Really excited for this game to come out in the states...guessing around the fall...to tide me over till Gen V. :)

Hm, this sounds nice. I never really cared for the Ranger games (though I did kidnap my sister's Ranger 1 and slowly pushed my way though to the end so I could take the Manaphy xD), but the legendaries available for transfer in this kind of got me interested, especially the Deoxys. I'm still sort of tempted to import, but I'll prolly just wait till the US release.

The dubbed version of Ranger 2 was amazing.

So wait for it. :)
Seriously, funniest script in a Pokemon game, or any game, in quite awhile.

So, uh, no one else cares about this game? We have a major release this weekend and we can barely get two pages of discussion?

Some more random notes:

- All of the islands in this game begin with a solfège syllable (do re mi fa so la ti). Dorop Island, Reinbow Island, Milonda Island, etc.

- I went to the past with Celebi, but was then quickly brought back rather unceremoniously. The little boy you meet in the past does mention a temple erected for Arceus, though.

- I've unlocked Quests. In this game, icons on the map tell you where people who have things for you to do are at so you don't have to wander around so much. A lot of the early Quests are really, really simple.

- Your first Quest is to go to Dorop Island to pick up some wood to use to fix the Ukulele Pichu's ukulele. Even though there's this big-ass forest right next to the village.

- Later, one of the Nappers' UFO-things (that's what the charcters in-game keep calling it) falls into the ocean, so you have to go underwater to retrieve it. While underwater, you have another mini-game that requires you to hold your DS upright like a book.

I've been looking at this game's coverage on Serebii without spoiling to much of it for myself and it looks cool so far. It seems like there are alot more things to do than just capture the Pokemon, which is nice. I had a hard time getting into Ranger 2, but once I did I actually liked it. I think there is enough different in this one that it might have to be a must buy for me.

Also I think the reason no one is talking about this game is because there hasn't even been a tenative US release window yet. Its hard to get excited about something that we know we won't see for a long time :-(

From what you've said Dogasu, the game seems to be quite good :)

I'm especially intrigued about the amount of mini games. I hope there is one for summoning/riding the beasts.
