The DVD's out in Japan today, so those of you who import these/leech them off the Internet will finally get the chance to see it.

It's too bad we won't get subtitles right away. Movies are a bit more difficult to follow (not to mention a test of patience) than TV episodes for those of us with less-advanced Japanese skills.

In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing it mostly for the animation.

The OST rocked, can't wait to hear it in action (Jazz Spurt Remix? Yes!)

Just finished watching it. The visuals and the music were amazing in this movie. That little rendition of Spurt and the song at the end were great.

It was kinda dissappointing how Kyogre was only in it for like the last few minutes, aside from Haruka's dream. The ending where Manaphy said goodbye to Haruka was really touching.

That family must have been really rich to be fine with just wrecking their trailer, and just forgetting about their bus, and then going ahead and buying a new one. That water pikachu was really creepy, but the way the Meditite/cham controled the water was really cool.

Yes.

I still don't like Rangers, but at least Jack does it with more style than whatever-her-name-was.

Nice movie but half of it was just bits of Movies 4 and 6 redone so.... meh.

Also, when Ash and then subsequently everyone else just suddenly turns Super Saiyan, I felt the movie had more or less completely lost it.

Incidentally, on the report that in the 10th movie we'll actually see the main characters' Pokemon actually doing something other than a silly 3 minute playabout montage, I'm definitely looking forward to it after this movie. Where even though Corphish was out of his Pokeball for half the movie, did squat anyway.

Just like movie 6 though, it had some really nice touching moments that will pull on anyone's heartstrings, whatever the rest of the movie was like - and they'll stick in your memory - but overall, just like 4 and 6, the 9th movie gets a big overall "meh".

Not only is it the longest movie yet in terms of real time, it is also the longest movie internally - from full moon to full moon is a whole month. And yet at the same time it's the shortest ED ever - just over 3½ minutes.

Now, it may just be bias from having watched DP, but it seems that Haruka says daijōbu a lot in this movie. Her very last line is perfect fit for Hikari.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the ka mo nickname this time.

Anyway... the movie is visually spectacular - particularly the opening (how long did it take to all those tiny animated Pokémon!? The cameos were fun though.) - but it could have been better: the final conflict, the deus ex machina... the stuff from 1:37:50 on is mostly unnecessary and they could have used the time elsewhere.

Trivia: the hexagonal structures you see in the title sequence, that's the crystalline structure of ice, to be precise, ice Ih. But it's not perfectly correct - there should only be one hydrogen atom on each edge of the hexagon.

I loved how at the end when everyone including Pikachu was going Super Saiyan we see them going through the water, and then we just see Corphish swimming along normally.

Sceptile looks so sexy in Movie Form. Why, oh why, couldn't they have him do more then jump on rocks.

Glad we had a true villain for once, since like...Movie 5?

I suppose I'll have to wait till the dub comes out to see it, shame, because I like what I've seen in the previews.

The pirate villain seems to be the funniest villain ever, is he really as amusing as he looks? And of course, it's nice to finally see May with a starring role in a movie. Shame they waited all the way till the last AG movie to finally give her a big role.

Ash gets as much/more screentime in the movie as May does. She also does relatively little in the movie apart from being Johto Misty with Manaphy.

:)

Hello, and welcome to today's edition of "What Is That Doing There?"

Today, we will be looking at a picture from the image gallery in the extras section of this DVD.

The instant I saw this, I thought it looked familiar, but not from the movie I had just watched. I checked something, and sure enough...

A striking resemblance, is it not?

So, the question is:
What is a scene from movie 5 doing in a gallery of artwork for movie 9?

Eh, didn't really like it that much. Manaphy isn't really that spectacular a pokemon, and Kyogre's bit was waaay too small. Phantom comes off as rather non-treathening and silly (and not silly in a fun way, like Team Rocket), the entire Super Saiyan crap at the end was... dumb, and Satoshi manages to steal Haruka's moment of glory at the end (as well as Jackie's, who did annoyingly little in the movie).
And, um, if he was going to return that crystal to the center room, how about doing it right away, that would've greatly increased his chanse of success. And yet again, he risks his life and almost dies for some crap that really doesn't matter that much.

...and, um, if he hadn't managed to save the city, wouldn't Haruka, Manaphy and Pikachu have choked to death in that torpedo tube thing? It didn't float, and there couldn't be air for more than a couple hours in there - leaving them in the city so they could attempt to swim to the surface or locate the sub would've been a much better idea.

Hmmm... I was taking a look at the screenshots on SPP (yes, they are this fast), and I noticed that right at the end (during what is probably the ending theme), there seems to be a part featuring coloured artwork sent in by readers of various Pokémon magazines. I found the original on a scan of the April 2006 edition of the CoroCoro magazine at filb.de (third scan on this page); I wonder what was the music or song that played during that part, as it seems like seperate from the "main" ending part.

The opening theme. Which Pokeani claims is an instrumental of Big Nyarth Day, but I think that's mistaken.

When Jackie reminisces about his childhood experience which inspires him to become a Ranger.
