So the English version of the game comes out in the U.S. today.

My question is...is this game any good? Is it worth buying?

You are not going to get an unbiased opinion on that, I'm afraid. This game has called forth both ends of the pokemon fence here. Those that are sick of the repetitive nature of the main series hate its guts, and those that don't mind have said it's fun. Others will compare it to MD, and favor one over the other, whichever one that may be. The figures plainly tell that MD is the more popular one of the "Path to Diamond and Pearl" series of games in Japan. I think that it will be no different for other countries. I don't think Ranger should be dismissed simply because it is not as popular. The main legitimate complaint I have seen with Ranger is that it is short and has no replay value, because there isn't much to do after beating the story.

I wish I could bring more of my own input, but I don't have it myself yet.

The argument specifically has to do with comparing it to MD. They seem to think that actually being a pokemon is better than being a human who controls pokemon.

This is unfounded because Ranger is perhaps even more different from the main series than MD is. It is devoid of almost everything that defines an RPG, and is more at home in the action/adventure genre.

Not to mention that I think the people that are sick of pokemon's formula should go and play other games.

Yes it is definitely worth. I have to agree with Sceptile726, though. It is rather short and has indeed not really a replay value. But it is a really fun game anyway.

I played the Japanese version almost twice (not completely finished yet with my second time to play through the story) and I will get the US version soon. (Ordered it from amazon.com and have it sent to my American grandfather who will send it to me then.)

I even like it better than Mystery Dungeon and I would really like to see a sequel to it.

Also, the English version apparently has all the optional missions that were unavailable in the Japanese version.
Which sucks imo

Why? It means that everyone will actually be able to get Manaphy in D/P.

Yeah it won't be special anymore. That's like putting cards that were promos in Japan into a regular expansion set in other countries.

Yes, this sucks for everyone who pre-ordered a movie ticket in Japan to get it. This includes me and some friends of mine, not only in Japan.

So, I still hope it's not true… -_-

If it's true, I think that's great, personally. I mean, seeing how I'll never, EVER be able to go to an event (my country is far too tiny and unimportant for official Pokemon events), being able to get a special Pokemon like that in a completely legal way is wonderful. The translated American version is the one that will go out worldwide afterwards, so everyone will get a chance to get their very own Manaphy and (if they get D/P too) Fione.

How in gods name does it suck that you can get Manaphy without having to go to an extra event?

Ah, I missed that.

I guess I can understand then, paying extra for something you would get anyway...

Those of us who wait for the English games to be released aren't going to get Manaphy until next year anyway.

Which raises a question- can the English Ranger transfer Manaphy to a Japanese Pearl?

I guess someone will try that soon. It will take a while until I have my English Ranger but if nobody has tried it until then, I will try it. o.o My guess is that it won't work. Just doesn't seem very likely.

I personally love the game, and I find it more fun than MD. Go-Rock Squad rules. And a huge HELL YEAH to free Manaphy in it.

To my knowledge, you can't.According to SPP.

Anyways, Has anyone actually gotten the Manaphy mission on an english Ranger.I know Coronis of SPPF said it was true, but you never know it could be just a rumour that's spreading as fact.

You can't trade the Deoxys, Mew, and Celebi to other games, right?

I've got a few views on the whole, "Manaphy more common than a starter" topic. On one hand, it's great because people who live in countries that rarely (or never) get nintendo events, will be able to get manaphy on their D/P games. Then there's the fact nYoo mentioned that it won't be special, and that it'll just be another ardous legendary trek. Then again, I think it makes no difference whether or not they do it because of sharkers, which will have Manaphy plastered across Wi-Fi like rabbits. And then there's the skepical view that it's just a ploy for nintendo to boost the sales the Ranger lacked in Japan...*runs off to find beads*
