Well, not just yet - but a 7-page preview of Pokémon Ranger the Comic is up on ポケモンだいすきクラブ.

シナリオ:日下秀憲
 まんが:山本サトシ

Scenario: Kusaka Hidenori
Manga: Yamamoto Satoshi

Mirrored here for your convenience:

I'm more interested in the Movie 9 adaptation starting in next month's CoroCoro, but this still looks like it could be good. Any idea on what other manga Yamamoto Satoshi's done?

Hmm - noting that this should be based more on the W-mission in the game, not the movie - but who knows. Attached is the title-logo. Note to self: find out if the Shōgakukan school magazines will be running the movie manga adaptation.

As for other manga - well, you could find out from S-book.com.

I'm guessing each Ranger Leader has their own bird Pokemon, pretty cool.

I'm really excited about Ranger, it's starting to look more then just a cheap spin off.

As far as I know, CoroCoro is the magazine that always runs the movie adaptations. They ran the Deoxys one and the Lucario one, and I'm pretty sure they ran the others as well.

The magazine is running the movie adapation starting with their next issue (May 2006?).

Correction to self: a movie manga adaptation. Last year there were at least three before the premiere, and probably a few more after that too.

I had started translating it but kanji got me tired so I stopped it. Well, if noone else traslate it I may do.

OK, the full chapter is out now. And - I'm a little surprised - all 32 pages are available for free.

There is some animation between page 20 and 21 with Kazuki (カヅキ) (the male Ranger) capturing the Croconaw.

Uploaded as a zip file here for your convenience.

It would appear that the manga adaptation goes into greater detail in presenting Fiore as a protrudent region, unlike all others. The game itself, from what little reviews I have stumbled upon, does not account for the difference between the role of a trainer and that of a ranger.

On page 25 is the silhouette of Red and Pikachu - but not Red as Satoshi Yamamoto has come to draw. This Red is very much the character as he appears in FireRed and LeafGreen, or in other words, a noticeably different character to Pokémon Special's Red.

The discussion of trainers is presumably brought up in the context of the temporary bond between a ranger and his captured Pokémon (I do hope this problem is tackled in a convincing manner - I fail to see how rangers can even be compared to trainers in this regard). It is perfectly understandable why the silhouette does not depict Red as in Pokémon Special, seeing as that would create the impression that the comic is a segment of the series. Even so, it still strikes me as a pleasant surprise that the game character was selected.

Particularly interesting is the fact that Red is paired with Pikachu. If the point were solely to use the mascot of Pokémon, it would be Ash in Red's place (since the anime takes up the most dominant part in the advertisement surrounding the franchise). This is the first time for FireRed/LeafGreen's Red to be associated with Pikachu, which leads me to wonder if there is more than meets the eye. The image being entirely irrelevant to the series is besides the point - the choice is most intriguing.

THREE!? I know about the one by Ihara Shigekatsu, but I wasn't aware of multiple adaptations.

The W-Mission is game-only.

Yes. Two of them were similar in the elements revealed, but by different artists. The one in Shō-3 was by Asada Miho, the one in Shō-4 by Yoshino Emiko.

The W-Mission is game-only.

One half of the W-mission is depicted in the movie - the Manaphy egg - and the other half is depicted in the April 13 special - the Deoxys.

That was great though id wish someone would do an english translation

Well... I could translate it, but it would take forever since I am so lazy.
X_x

On a side note, it's very interesting how the male ranger gives the pokemon honorifics ("Croconaw-san!") and he says "tanomu!" frequently. It also seems that the female ranger (Hinata) and him share their default names from the game. But since I do not have access to a DS or Rangers, this could be an anime reference.

He's probably being extra polite with the -san thing since he's not really talking to his pokemon.

Then again, he also uses super polite watakushi instead of, say, ore (which is what Satoshi uses in the anime) so it could just be a case of him being overly polite.

Or, humble. But he certainly doesn't bother with teineigo for very long.

Refresh my memory, but what is the male's ranger's name, is it Kazouta?

Also, is this manga gonna be continued?

Kazuki. The next part will be published on Friday, April 21. There are 4 parts in total.

The second chapter's out today!

Back at the Ranger Base of Ring Town, Hinata showed the Record on Joe's Capture Style to Kazuki. Hinata stated that the three leaders were completely defeated by Deoxys' overwhelming power. Kazuki expressed his surprise that even the Capture Styler was broken. At this moment, someone else approached the two Rangers from behind, saying he was also surprised by that. They turned around and found it was Prof. Shinbara.

The professor than explained what it means by "the Styler was broken": The Styler was to use the Capture Disc to Capture a Pokemon, and the line that the Capture Disc shoot out was called the "Capture Line". When a Pokemon used an attack which broke the line, the energy will flow back to the Styler and cause damage on it directly. If this keeps repeating, the Styler will eventually be broken.

Prof. Shinbara mentioned the design of his newest Styler was also stolen by some evil organization. He then ordered Hinata and Kazuki, the two Class 10 Rangers, to continue the mission which the three leaders had failed, since they were all in the hospital. Before the two left, Shinbara asked Hinata to contact him if she heard anything from Kamuri. He explained that Kamuri asked him to meet him at Ring Town's Ranger Base since the Summer Land leader wanted to show him something, but he was not heard ever since. On the other hand, Hinata asked the professor to look after Iyori, who was staying at the Ranger Base and didn't answer to anyone's call. The professor nervously agreed.

Outside the Ranger Base, someone holding onto a drum a "Yuuki" that two Class 10 Rangers had left. Yuuki replied that Mirai had already been waiting near the Croca Tunnel. The drummer the asked if they were going along the plan and meet up at the said tunnel.

Scene change to the Lila Forest, where Hinata and Kazuki were heading to the Croca Tunnel with a large team of Pokemon following them. Kazuki (with a Treecko, Ralts, Mankey, Quilava, Gligar and Magneton) looked back at the Pokemon they've Captured on the way while Hinata (Wurmple, Phanpy, Ekans, Swellow, Gengar, Houndoom and Graveller) said that was okay. She then asked if Kazuki knew anything about Deoxys, which Kazuki swiftly answered "no". She was a bit surprised since Kazuki always brags that "there's nothing about Pokemon-san that I don't know about". But the next frame she said that she knew nothing about it too. That's why she captured so many Pokemon, thinking they may be useful. She noticed one characteristic from the Record though: the "changing" ability of the Deoxys, and the way it seemed to intepret everything around is its enemy. She figured that Prof. Shinbara must be worried about what disaster it can cause if they let it escape to the city, that's why he sent the two Rangers out in such a hurry.

Hinata turned to Kazuki, who was wearing a serious expression, and commented that it'll be a good chance for him to express his gratitude to Hayate, who accepted him as a Ranger after Kazuki's 7 letters. But then, Kazuki suddenly grabbed Hinata and jumped forward. As the smoke clears, Deoxys was standing where they had been chatting seconds ago. Deoxys then changed into its Attack form and flied into the Tunnel. Hinata and Kazuki gave chase.

Hinata tried to capture it, but Deoxys turned into Defence form and batted the Dics away. Her second attempt also ended in failure as it changed into Speed form and avoided the Dics. This time, Kazuki called out Treecko and used the Grass-Type Poke-Assist to Capture the Deoxys. However, the Deoxys cut through the thick grass that surrounded it and Kazuki's Styler received damage from this. A new voice commented that Deoxys was in its most speedy form and they won't be able to stop it. The new voice then introduced herself as Mirai, one of the Team Go-Go's 4 Siblings. She teased Kazuki had already gotten a new girlfriend when he just got dumped last night. Hinata got p*ssed, saying she's just a teammate/colleague (I sense RangerShipping here). She grabbed Kazuki by the collar and asked why did he tell such thing to a Team Go-Go member. Kazuki, of course, didn't have a clue. But then Mirai revealed she was the girl who dumped him in chapter 1 by putting on a wig and called him "Kazu-kun".

She also revealed that their plan was in action since two days prior to that moment. They detected a mysterious energy but could not tell its exact location by their radar. So they had to use the Ranger in order to retrieve the source of this mysterious energy. Then a new person appeared, saying they only need to create a distraction to the other leaders as they go and take the energy source. He was the one who startled Deoxys and caused it to go on a rampage. Mirai's real purpose in the plan is to stop the Class 10 Ranger from going for help, but Kazuki forgot the "date" instead. Hinata soon realized the "energy source" was the object that Kamuri wanted to show to Prof. Shinbara. From behind them, another Go-Go Sibling appeared and threw an unconscious Kamuri down to the two Rangers. Before they can approach them, however, Deoxys extended its tentacles and caught them. The 4th sibling appeared to and praised the other three for their good work. Yarai, whom the 3 siblings refered as the "big brother", smirked at the two Rangers with the Manaphy egg in his hand...!!
