Pokémon red to crystal

Hey guys/girls

I was wondering can you trade pokémon from red to crystal
When I connect up the link cable its picking up the other one
because i do get the option, but what happens is

On red it tells me it has to save so i click ok and it then says please wait
on crystal i hit yes to show me as ready at the same time, it also says please wait, then crystal says : "your friend is not ready" and on red it says "link closed because of inactivity"

Please help, any help is greatly appreciated =]

You need to use the original GB/GBC cable link. (of course, on a GB/GBC)

The GBA and GBC transfer data in a different way or something...
