Hey all. I've finally started my first Nuzlocke Challenge. I was originally gonna post my adventure in my blog as sort of a bare-bones report on my progress (You know, just stuff like "Went here, battled this. Went there, battled that.") and then use that as a script to make a comic later on, but then I remembered that I suck at drawing comics. So instead, I've decided to post my logs as a fanfic in the form of a fictional Journal. I don't know how popular it'll become, or if anyone will actually read it at all, but I plan on also posting it on my FF.net and dA pages. To see what rules I'm playing by, check out this blog entry. So yeah, that's pretty much all I wanted to say. Without further ado, I present...

A Nuzlocke Challenge
Part 1: Humble Beginings
Dear Journal:
It’s been one hell of a day! We arrived in Littleroot Town. The trip went better than I expected. I'm still a bit miffed that I had to ride in the back with all the boxes and furniture while Mom drove, but hey, at least nothing fell on me, I guess. Thankfully, Dad lent us a bunch of his Vigiroth to help move all the furniture in, so I really didn’t have to do much besides set-up my PC and set my new clock. Oh yeah, can you believe that garbage?! A new clock? Really? “Oh, hey son, I just got a new job over in the Hoenn region, so you’re gonna have to say bye to all those life-long friends you have here in Johto. Oh, but here’s a clock, that should make you feel better, right?” God my parents suck.
Anyways, turns out we moved in next door to one of Dad’s old acquaintances. Some dude by the name of Birch. He’s apparently a researcher that studies how Pokémon live and survive out in the wild. Mom said I should go over and introduce myself, but when I headed over to his house, he wasn’t home. I got to meet his family though. They were cool, I guess. Mrs. Birch is pretty nice, if not a bit naïve. I mean really, what kind of mom sends a teenage boy she’s never met up to her teenage daughter’s bedroom, and pretty much leaves them alone completely unsupervised? Though, I guess I shouldn’t talk. I still remember the time Mom walked in on me and Kris hanging out in my room. That was just awkward. At least May’s mom didn’t hand me a condom before sending me up. Anyways, Birch has two daughters. The older one, May, is about my age. Really nice, not prissy at all, and unbelievably cute, but a bit of a chatter box. I talked with her a bit, but she had to get ready for something, so I left after a little while. The little sister was nice I guess, but she was just a little kid, so I didn’t really talk with her a lot. I don’t even think I remember her name.
I tried Birch’s lab to see if he was there, but no-luck. His assistant said that he was out doing some field research on the local Pokémon. I didn’t really have anything better to do, so I decided to go look for him. When I got to the town outskirts, I was stopped by a little girl. She told me that she could hear Pokémon attacking someone. She wanted me to go check it out, since she didn’t have any Pokémon of her own to battle with. I don’t know what she expected of me, it’s not like I had any Pokémon on me either. But really, if there was someone getting attacked, it’s not like I could just ignore them, right? Besides, I’m the son of a Gym Leader! I’ve been around Pokémon my whole life, even if they were all my dad’s. I figured that I might as well at least have a look at what was going on, and run for help if it was too much for me to handle on my own.
I ran to where the noise was coming from, and I saw this big dude getting chased around by this furry little brown Pokémon. (I found out later that it was called a zigzagoon. We didn’t have those back in Johto.) Anyways, the guy spots me, and yells at me to use one of the Poké Balls from his bag. I see the bag lying on the ground. The Poké Balls have spilled out, so I just grabbed one and chucked it. This little blue thing came out. It said its name was Mudkip, and it was totally awesome. You should have seen me Journal; I took that zigzagoon out in no time flat!
It turns out the guy I rescued was actually Prof. Birch. Apparently he was studying some wild Pokémon in the tall grass outside of town when he suddenly got jumped by the zigzagoon. We headed back to his lab together. He seems to be an alright guy. I mean, after all, HE LET ME KEEP THE MUDKIP, SO HE MUST BE AWESOME, RIGHT?! Yup, that’s right! I finally got my own Pokémon, Journal, can you believe it? Birch said that he’d heard a lot about me from Dad, and after seeing how I handled myself against that zigzagoon, he knew that I’d be able to raise my new Pokémon well. I decided to name my new buddy Blue. It’s a little lame, I know, but I couldn’t really think of anything else at the time, and I’ve had Ultra Blue by Thrice stuck in my head all week. Sue me. Anyways, Birch said that I should go find May. He gave her her own Pokémon a while ago so that she could help him with his fieldwork, so she could probably give me some pointers on being a trainer.
I headed over to her house, but Mrs. Birch said that May had headed out to Route 103 to collect some research data for her dad. Now that I had my own Pokémon, I headed north from Littleroot. I ran into some wild poochyena on Route 101, but me and Blue took care of them easily, and we made it to Oldale Town without any problems. As soon as we got there, I made a bee-line to the PokéCenter. Blue didn’t take a whole lot of damage on the way there, but I didn’t know what I’d run into while searching for May, so I figured it’d be better to be safe than sorry. After I was all healed up, I walked around town for a bit. The local PokéMart was having some kind of promotion, so I ended up getting a free Potion. Oh yeah, some dude totally yelled at me! I was walking around, and I almost stepped on some footprints that he was sketching. He said that they were from some rare Pokémon or something, but they didn’t look like anything too special.
Route 103 was literally just north of Oldale, and it really didn’t take me too long to find May. She was making a list of all the Pokémon that usually appeared in the area. When I told her what I was doing out there, she said that the best way to see what being a Trainer is like is to have a Pokémon Battle, so that’s just what we did. May’s Pokémon was this green lizard thing called Treecko. May said it was a Grass-Type, so she had an advantage over my Water-Type Mudkip. It was actually a really close battle. May started off by lowering Blue’s defense with a couple of Leer attacks from her Treecko, so when she finally hit me with a Pound attack, it did a lot more damage than it should have. Thank God I got that free Potion though. After I healed up, I had Blue use Mud-Slap, a move that it had learned on my way to Oldale. It’s a Ground-Type move, so it didn’t do too much damage against the Grass-Type Treecko, but it did lower its accuracy, which is what I was really aiming for. While it was trying to Pound him with its tail, I had Blue use Growl to lower Treecko’s attack. Treecko managed to land a couple of more Pound attacks, but between its reduced attack and being half-blind, Blue was able to Tackle it for the win.
May was really impressed. She said that she understood why her dad had trusted me with Blue. She said that even though we’d only been together for a few hours, me and Blue had already formed a bond with each other. She said that I could probably make friends with any kind of Pokémon I meet. Then she just kind of took off back to the lab. On my way back to Oldale town, me and Blue took down some more Poochyena. After healing up at the PokéCenter again, I saw May waiting for me by the town limits. She said that we should hurry back to the lab together and then just booked it without me. Now that I think about it, I guess it isn’t so much that May’s chatty, she’s just really dedicated. When she decides she’s gonna do something, she does it. If she decides she’s gonna talk, she’s gonna talk. If she decides she’s gonna go somewhere, she takes off without thinking. It’s kind of funny, really.
When I finally made it back the lab in Littleroot, May was already there, telling her dad about our battle. When he found out that I was able to beat May on my first time out, he was really impressed. He even gave me my own Pokédex! These things aren’t cheap, you know! Not even Dad has one! May gave me some Poké Balls too. They said that I should go out and explore Hoenn and try and catch lots more Pokémon. I think I will. Summer break just started, so it’s not like I have any obligations at the moment. I decided I’d head out tomorrow. It was getting late, and I still hadn’t told Mom what happened.
When I got home, Mom was waiting for me. She absolutely loves Blue. She says he’s just adorable, and I guess he is kind of cute. She also said that I look good with a Pokémon next to me, just like Dad did when he was younger. When I told her what my plans were, she seemed to be okay with it. She even surprised me with a brand new pair of Running Shoes. Apparently they have some kind of special feature that makes you run a lot faster than normal, but I didn’t really have a chance to test them out, since it was already dark out. Mom says that I should be careful on my journey. She says that if anything happens, I can always just come home. I think she’s a little worried about me, but really, what’s the worst that can happen?

So there's part one. I tried my best to make it sound like this was written by a middle-schooler, which is why it's not as grammatically correct as I'd like. The eighth paragraph was really annoying to write. Typing "She said" so many times hurt me. IT HURT ME IN MY SOUL. >_<
