it chronicles about 26 episodes which is a good number. But it starts off with koga's gym battle which is pretty good. but then it procedes to have 25 episodes of fillers leaving off 5 episodes from blaine. it was about 30 dolllars for the same kind of fillers that are ridiculus in Diamond and pearl. I have no idea why they would skip hearthome gym. That was long enough to wait. i see the stupid fillers on this dvd that are just like the horrible ones in diamond and pearl. Sooner or later people will lose interest in the series for the longest ever wait for a gym battle. but something that is interesting is that after Blaine was defeated there is only a 5 episode wait until vridian. Why cant they go back with short intervals between gyms like before. the series is supposed to be about Ash's quest to defeat gym leaders and win the pokemon league. i know now never to buy or watch anything with huge amounts of fillers.

1) The fillers are a LOT better than before

2) You wind up skipping Hearthome in the games anyway, so it's natural for the anime to miss it.

3) My whine meter is going up, watch it.

So yeah, your argument sucks.

Remeber how Kanto alot of fillers? How they do it to keep the show on as long as possible and promote the games? You do now. This is why I'd wait til all of Season 1 is out.

Time to call the Whaaaaaambulance.

Complaining about filler in Pokemon is ridiculous, about 80% of its episodes are filler.

Of course there are certain seasons of the show that had a large number of tedious/boring fillers one after the other, and that's the only time filler should be complained about. IMO, the writers have done a good job trying to get away from that in recent years. But the filler will always be here, that's Pokemon for you.

Since when did filler mean "automatically bad"?
And eh, I think the large gap between the 6th and 7th gym was due to the length of the series being extended due to it's popularity, and the writers needed to stall a bit. There's quite a lot of good episodes in there, too.

What's wrong with the first season fillers? Those are some of the best fillers the series ever had. You are mad about a season set costing 30 dollars? Especially when one Japanese Pokemon movie on DVD costs 40 bucks.

Indeed. Of all the things to complain about with the season boxsets, "the presence of fillers" is the least worth getting worked up over.

Lemme take a wild guess. Johto, right?

Gah. I wish the fillers now were as exciting as the fillers in the Indigo League. There's a few that are kinda 'eh' to me, but the third disc (numbered disc 6) is really some of the best filler work they have done. Not EVERY filler can be spectacular.

And man...Orange Islands shouldn't even EXIST then. It's like a filler series. I like Orange Island, though.

I got mine for Wallyworld for $25 and thought it was a pretty darn good deal for how many episodes it is!

we need more gym battles. the series is supposed to be about ash winning the gyms and going to the league. why cant the fillers just be them traveling to the next city if people are so desperate for them. but why veer off the path. by tommorow night there will be 2 gym badges in 52 episodes. why participate in a tag battle just head for veilstone. And then i bet after the probably 150 plus episodes of travelling ash will finish something like 8th in the league. the he will start an excuse to go a different region. they dont want him to achieve his goal because they want money. And the series is in desperate trouble.

While I agree with you about complaining about the fillers in Pokemon, I'm not sure that 80% of the episodes are fillers. That just seems a bit too high. Maybe around 60% or something like that. To me, a filler episode is one where no captures are made, no evolutions, no contests or gym battles won or lost or there is not some kind of character growth.

I don't see why filler has become such a negative term for an episode. I can understand that some of these filler episodes just drag on, but the recent ones have been quite better than ones from the past. I think that you're just complaining over how the show does not match the speed of the game.

If we had more gym battles all at once, there wouldn't be much of any growth of the characters, training episodes with their Pokemon, no capture episodes for new Pokemon and none of the just-for-fun kind of episodes that Pokemon does have within many of its fillers. If the fillers were just Ash and his friends traveling to the next city, with no episode event really happening, then that would be extremely boring. That sounds more like a carbon copy of the game and I can play my Diamond and Pearl to see that kind of pace. Like I said, I think that you want the pace in the series to be more like the game.

I think that the reason why Ash is partcipating in the tag battle tournment is because he was hyped up to get to the Hearthome gym for a battle, but since the leader's away, this is the next best thing. Most people here, and I agree with them, believe that the writers are taking their time with Ash's gym battles because they don't know when the new game will come out in Japan, so they're just going along with this kind of pace. They probably also don't want to go too fast in D/P so that they'll be more prepared for when the new video game is announced. Ash does acheive his goal of winning his gym battles and he has done quite well in the last couple of tournements. The writers follow the rule of no matter how good you think that you are, there's always someone better than you, which is at least one reason why Ash does lose in the league tournments.

By the way, the series is not in desparate trouble. It is still popular in Japan and it is still relatively popular here. It isn't as huge as it was during those first few years of Pokemon's success, but it still does quite well. The anime just doesn't have the fast pace as the video games do for obvious reasons. Besides that, I personally think that the so-called filler episodes can be really enjoyable. The ones in that season one part two set are included in that as well.

Amazon.com currently has Season 1 Box 2 for $24.99. That is an amazing price for a box set. Pre-order of Boxset 3 is only $27.99. These are EXTREMELY reasonable prices for the series considering the Pioneer DVD version of Indigo was $20 a disk for 3 episodes. I sold my Pioneer DVD's before these box sets were released to get the most money I could.

It appears people in the Pokemon community will complain about everything and anything.

Fillers shouldn't have the same phobia applied to them in a show like Pokemon, which is barely that plot-driven, compared to Bleach and Naruto when fillers are referring to made-for-Anime episodes that usually don't follow the main plot, and often have lack of character dev, OCC, and poor animation.

So instead of filler howabout...sucky episode.

Really? Wow...if I had known that, I probably would have bought them off of you. Then I wouldn't even bother with the second and third box sets.
