Okay, this was starting to clutter up the main speculation thread I moved from the Video Games forum, so I figured it might be easiest if we split this off. I'll move all the existing posts about the issue from that thread to here later, just so there's not going to be too much confusion.

To summarize what we know so far...
Today, a new Pokémon was announced on Pokémon Sunday.
The BulbaNews article on that is here

Other than this image, we know exactly squat all about the Pokémon, except that it will appear in the new movie.

Now, several other websites have been saying that this Pokémon is Z, the titular character of the movie. I would like to clear up a few things regarding this piece of speculation.

It was announced earlier in the show that Z would be revealed on the February 21st episode of Pokémon Sunday. Masuda said in his announcement with this Pokémon here that this Pokémon would be revealed on the February 21st episode. This has led these other websites to the assumption that they are one and the same.

For the record, Masuda did not say at any moment that this Pokémon is Z. Masuda only said that this Pokémon is a key Pokémon in the movie, as NyaChan just noted. We have a clip of the actual announcement, that we've listened to over and over, so we're 100% certain on this fact.

Does this mean that the new Pokémon is Z? Honestly...we can't say. It's possible, certainly plausible, but it was never actually stated, and I'm not going to go out on a limb with speculation and assumption on this one.

As for what the Pokémon is....beats me. Lucario evo? I've got no clue. ^^;

Hmmm... I still say that it looks feminine and vaugely Sonic-like. Sorry, not very useful here. :\

Whoa, awesome fanart... o_O

I love the fanart.

I guess I'll try to help out with the Pokémon Sunday screencaps for this revelation too.

Way too fast. Way too good. Exactly what I imagined it to look.

The problem with fanart is that now that is what we will all expect, because after looking at that fan art, I can't imagine the Pokemon looking any other way. (Except maybe with the bottom part of the ponytail as a tail instead)

Could be a feminine counterpart of Lucario, 75%♀ and 25%♂.

Meh, the art looks like exactly what i've been thinking of. :p

5th gen pokemon? Bullshit, it's obvious this is Wolfcario.

If not, then let the bells toll for the fourth generation, which brought us goofy looking legends, terrible baby pokemon of things nobody used in the first place, broken TMs in the form of Stealth Rock, broken abilities like Technician, the rise of priority whores and the violent rape of the competitive metagame.

God bless DPPtHGSS!

I have a feeling it will end up being something completely unexpected, like a reptile or something. :p

Larger.
Either way, I'm looking forward! :D
It does look a lot like a Sandslash evolution, if it is an evolution.

Fanart is awesome!

Lucario in a fur coat. I cannot stress this enough. He ditched his shorts for winter.

I'm almost sure that it WILL be Lucario's final form. It's gotta be it, it's just gotta be!
Considering that Lucario is one of my all-time favorites, it would be just great if it turned out to be true!

And I also hope that Pokemon will have a totally new type, as it's about time that they introduce some new much-anticipated types.

Okay, you have NOTHING to base this on. So you aren't certain of anything.

My gut is to guess that it's not related to any old Pokemon at all, but of course that's a completely baseless theory. I do see the similarities to Lucario and Sandslash, as a lot of people have already mentioned, but I'm not getting the occasional theories that it's a Ninetales evolution. There aren't any actual tails on this Pokemon.

But, then again, what do I know? I thought Fan Rotom's silhouette was going to be a Sand Castform.
