In a short trailer released for the closing ceremony of the 2025 Pokémon World Championships, fans have received their first glimpse at new Mega Attack Rarity cards for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, a new card rarity featuring art that pays homage to the designs of the original Mega Evolution Pokémon-EX cards from the XY series, including the brand new Mega Charizard X ex. Regular print versions of Oricorio ex and Mega Dragonite ex were also previewed.

Mega Evolution Pokémon in the XY series featured the name of the Pokémon's attack on the card as part of the artwork. This attack name was displayed in English on Japanese and Korean cards, and in Japanese on cards released in other regions and on Japanese UR variants.

In the Japanese version of the trailer (below), the regular prints of Mega Charizard X ex and Oricorio ex both had the set symbol M2, putting them in the Inferno X expansion releasing on September 26th in Japan that was leaked through retailer pre-order listings. All of the Mega Attack Rarity cards meanwhile, plus Mega Dragonite ex, had the set symbol M2a, placing the in the Mega Dream ex subset.

The presence of Mega Dragonite ex in this upcoming subset so soon following the debut of the Pokémon's mega evolved form in Pokémon Legends: Z-A may imply other Pokémon and characters from that other Pokémon, characters, locations and items from that game may feature in this subset, however at this point that's simply speculation on our part, and no further information has been officially released.
