Hello..
What do you think of the Pokemon the anime? Do you prefer the very first series or latest series? I personally prefer old series, the voices are great, idea was original, and the Pokemon were great. Also which one is your favorite series?

My favorite was the old Kanto days. I cant descibe why, besides it was incredible. I also liked the Orange Islands, Johto Journeys, and Advanced Challenge (<-that one's kinda random, but I still liked it a lot)

Personally, I think the series has gotten a lot better over the years. The early seasons that everyone thinks and talks about I feel has more to do with nostalgia more than anything. Heck, even when I re-watch the early Kanto and Orange Island episodes I get nostalgic myself, but it doesn’t “blind” me to the fact that those episodes didn’t have its faults like the lack of passing, the way Pikachu was super uber-powerful and can beat almost any Pokémon (it’s still like that, but not as obvious as it use to be), Team Rocket ruining almost every Gym Battle and then Ash gets the badge out of pity, the handling of the Indigo League etc.

The early seasons were great, but my favorite episodes would have to be when the Hoenn Saga began and onward. Since a lot of Ash’s character development takes place during that time (with him training his Pokémon, not acting as absent minded as he use to), the quality of the fillers vastly improved (especially the way Johto was), basically a lot of the problems I had with Johto were mostly “fixed” by Hoenn (although the last dozen or so episodes of Master Quest, which was before Hoenn were a lot better than most of the Johto Saga).

So basically in short I like the early Seasons, Hoenn, and the current Sinnoh Saga. Most of Johto, and Kanto Battle Froniter. . .not so much.

I liked the Kanto days, cause I watched the show since the beginning. Back then there was something about the show that's different from now, but I can't seem to explain it. Was it the situations that were more varied? Its not just cause of nostalga, its something and if anyone knows what I am talking about, could they explain it? The music takes me back too and I love hearing the original music in the current series.

The first series had a few problems, like Ash beating gyms too easily and other things like "Aim for the horn!" but then it was the first series and mistakes like that were bound to happen. Favourite music of the original series?

Oden
A meeting and a parting
Prayer
Kanto Trainer Battle
Tears after the cloudy weather
Bills Lighthouse
Setting Off/Silly Psyduck
S.S Anne music
Pokemon Center
and a few more I can't remember titles too

Ash has matured since the beginning of the show, if you watched it since then, even from Johto you'll see this. I like the current series as its a bit more "serious" than other sagas and Ash is trying hard to win is way and because of Paul, its more interesting this way. We see Dawn having ups and downs like anyone would in her situation and then we have Zoe the one that gives the pointers for contests, much how Brock gives the gang pointers of looking after pokemon and explaining the game mechanics in anime that we know already.

My favourite Sagas: Kanto, Orange Islands, Hoenn and Sinnoh. I can't say Battle Frontier or Johto as I did not really see those episodes, except a few.

I've enjoyed most of the series, or else I wouldn't be watching it for 10 years.

There are crap eps in every saga, you just gotta see every ep once so you know which eps to avoid next time.

I personally think it's pretty bad, from an objective standpoint. However, it's Pokémon, and I love Pokémon. If there were a legitimately good series about Pokémon, I'd watch that, but this is what there is, and I'm willing to overlook its faults because it's another look into the world of Pokémon.

Here's my take on the series:

Kanto/Orange Islands: most open, least formulaic, most creative ideas, but slightly crude and archaic. My favorite.
Johto: gradually gets more formulaic because of reliance on filler episodes, but still has the same characters and feel as the original.
Hoenn: suffers less from fillers, and becomes more polished and homogenous. Changes made are typically negative (especially you-know-what), but at the same time add freshness to the show.
Sinnoh: seems to be the worst of both worlds. Both the "new" style, and the filler-heavy formula Johto suffered from. However, actual good episodes are of higher frequency than they were back then, which is good. Back on the bad side of the coin, the characters were almost all either made worse, or replaced by someone worse.

I like the anime, but sometimes I wish it could be more of an adult anime. I'm not saying make it completely dark and twisted, but it would be nice to see more romance, violence, and action.

But it's pretty good as is.

I love the entire series. There hasn't been a single season of this show that I haven't enjoyed watching (and yes, this includes Johto). But Kanto would definitely have to be my favorite, followed by the Orange Islands, Master Quest and Hoenn.

If I didn't love the show...I'd be a miserable emo by now! I love Satoshi, and following his journey has been great. I've enjoyed everything apart from Jouto really. Because it was just boring.

Kanto/OI I see with partly rose tinted specs, nostalgia factor .etc. But the plot was fresh, the group dynamic was at its best ever (sadly, I think that has decreased since Kanto) and they were still experimenting, so we got some real gem episodes.

Skip Jouto. Houen added in Haruka, Masato and contests. I loved Haruka. And Shuu. And Satoshi's team was finally given the treatment it deserved! This region started atoning for Jouto.

Shinnou is brilliant IMO. Satoshi's team is the best it's ever been (and saying this, I'm a fan of the Kanto starters!), as a TR fan it's awesome to see them getting more episodes. The crap:good episode ratio is the best it's been since Kanto, if not forever. In fact the only thing I feel let down by is the contest arc, but I bitch about that too much anyway.

The best parts of Johto are the beginning and the tail-end, aside from the select few gems in the middle.

I think it was around the time that Charizard and Squirtle left that Johto became disappointing, call me bias or nostalgic, but there was something I really liked about Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charizard together and I felt the Johto starters weren't as interesting in comparison.

The end of Johto does have some good parts, mainly because the writers finally stopped it with the excessive filler and tried to wrap-up some story plots before they began the next series.

I also liked how we saw Lapras again in late Johto, its the only time Ash ever saw a released Pokemon of his again. Likewise I'd say everything from the 8th Gym through the Larvitar eps and the league is fairly good. No surprise given Ash used all his Kanto Pokemon again during the 8th Gym (Pikachu/Snorlax/Charizard were used against Claire) through the league.

I love the whole anime series, I'll even watch the Johto season! In my opinion I feel the series is starting to get better and better.

I think the show is at its all time best right now compared to the advance saga or even the originals since they gave the anime more story to the D/P saga like how far Ash has gotten with his maturity especially with Dawn and the Pokémon having more personality. To be honest I hated the advance saga a lot since I thought it was the worst and weakest providing the worst characters and plots which was my reasons I stopped watching back in 2003. I said something a while back about advance saga so here:

“Another thing I will say is that the only time I thought the writers made bad decisions in the anime were the advance saga I mean to me it was the worst and blandish saga I watched. Let’s just say I didn't like the idea they replaced Misty with two new main characters 'cough'filler characters'cough called May and Max who were just dull and uninteresting compared to Misty. Then the next thing that I thought was a stupid idea was bringing in new bad guys that were supposed to be one or two levels badder then Team Rocket called Team Magma and Aqua. Even though I thought it had potential they just executed horribly since they lacked personality compared to Team Rocket and now I can see why they killed them off after Season 7.”

I understand what the writers were trying to do with the advance saga but I thought they did a horrible job trying to fleshing the anime and the only things I found good about was the last two episodes of the seventh season, Ash and May had a huge fight in “The Bicker the better” episode, and season 9. Even the fillers were threaded for me to watch where I was completely skipping most of them due to how boring and uninterested these episodes were. Another thing I realized about the advance saga was that it was mostly an experiment to pave the way for the D/P saga since I think the show has completely gotten better. I mean if you look at May you can see she was the biggest part of the experiment since this was the first time a female character was almost getting an equal amount of screen time (besides Ash) and I thought they were doing this to see what they can improve on in the next saga learning from their mistakes. In other words, the advance saga with May, and the crappy bad guys that were supposed to be better then Team rocket was basically just a big experiment just to pave way for well designed bad guys like Team Galactic and Hunter J. It’s also pave the way for Dawn since May was just an experimental character to see what they can do with a main female character that was supposedly sharing the spot light with Ash and improve on with the next main female character’s personality.

Compared to the advance saga, the D/P saga is 10x better since the mistakes they made with the last series was greatly improved on which they did horribly last time. With an actual stuck up ass rival that Ash has to deal with it, a more dept story and plot, more personality for the Pokémon, possible shipping between Ash and Dawn, and actual bad guys that don’t suck like Team Magma and Aqua did makes this my favorite saga out of all of them. I’m also enjoying the fillers even more then the originals so now I don’t have to worry about skipping any of them and I like the pearlshipping hints that the writers leave behind.

It’s also pave the way for Dawn since May was just an experimental character to see what they can do with a main female character that was supposedly sharing the spot light with Ash and improve on with the next main female character’s personality.

When the writers introduced May, they had no clue they would be bringing in Dawn 4+ years later. That being said, most of Dawn's personality has always been a rather obvious copy/paste job of a lot May and Ash's personality quirks put together, with some slight alterations here and there so they can make it seem like she was something new.

more personality for the Pokémon,

Most of the Pokemon had plenty of personality in Hoenn, and I feel as if some have more than their Sinnoh counterparts. Grovyle compared to an almost no-personality Turtwig/Grotle, anyone? Corphish compared to Buizel? I'd wager Chimchar is the only one that really has a very well done personality compared to the previous fire Pokemon.

I'd also say the slowness for the evolutions this saga is really frustrating. Waiting 100 eps for a Pokemon to evolve is really bad pacing, especially since Chimchar still hasn't evolved.

possible shipping between Ash and Dawn,

Just friendship.

I disagree partly on what you said about turtwig/grotle. At the beginning it used to break up fights with the other pokemon in the group and it was speedy, but when it evolved it had to learn to get its feet as being bigger it did not know how to be speedy any more and kept fumbling about for a while. True its less personality than some pokemon but it still was a bit interesting.

I'd also say the slowness for the evolutions this saga is really frustrating. Waiting 100 eps for a Pokemon to evolve is really bad pacing, especially since Chimchar still hasn't evolved.

I am guessing the reason for this is that Ash wasnt to prove that pokemon don't have to be evolved or totally powerful straight away, remember Chimchar blaze? Ash has something to prove to Paul, buizel being unevolved and gliscor getting over its fears are just two ways of showing this. There was reasons bulbasaur never evolved it had the power without needing to evolve to show it and at the moment Buizel still not evolving shows this too.

One thing, is it just me or do Ash pokemon not evolve or learn new moves not the normal way much anymore but because they want to stop something or overcome something, not just learn new moves or evolve because they can? Phanphy became Donphan because it wanted to stop TR's Mecha, Grotle learned Rock climb to stop TR also. Gliscor emerged because gligar wanted to get over its fears. The only pokemon that Ash had this saga apart from turtwig that evolved normally was starly, and when it did, it was boring. Suppose those episodes make good shows then when pokemon don't evolve/learn new moves the normal way?

I always liked Ash battling with evolved Pokemon more than unevolved. Only exceptions being Bulbasaur and Squirtle because of the nostalgia, and Corphish because it was funny.

I feel Chimchar really should have evolved by Fantina, and Staravia was in its middle form for over 120 episodes.

I remember almost thinking Ash's Pokemon wouldn't evolve this gen, given how much faster they all evolved last gen.

"Thats actually what I thought to some extent but regardless May was experimental characters to see what they could get out of the next character."

"Maybe a few but I still think the Pokemon from Shinoh that Ash catched have more personality and honestly I don't know what you mean by Buizel and Tuttwig didn't have personalities when they did. Buizel loves the thrill of battling which matches his personality quite well and I remember when he lost badly to an elite four member's Pokemon he kept dwelling on his big loss. I also like the attitude he would give to Piplup or the others about going his way if they are by them selves and besides his temper is just as bad as corphish especially when something by accident happens to him. Since I mention Piplup I can't believe you skip that one especially him showing as much personality as Pikachu like how he tries to cheer up Dawn or the others and throws a temper if some one makes fun or disregards him as some one less. I could go on but I think you get my point so chimchar isn't the only well done pokemon with a lot of personality in the D/P saga.

I'd also say the slowness for the evolutions this saga, is really frustrating. Waiting 100 eps for a Pokemon to evolve is really bad pacing, especially since Chimchar still hasn't evolved.

"That not nessicary so since I wouldn't consider that to be horrible pacing and it besides Gliscor evolved rather quickly I wasn't expecting it happening so soon especially if still had a lot to learn about getting stronger."

Just friendship.

"Read my posts in the pearlshipping thread in the shippers paradise forum to get why I completely disagree with that (its on the last three pages) and no the hints are too obvious for me to think that they are just friends."

There was nothing wrong with the Johto team at all they were really great and strong. The Sinnoh team have more personality then that of The Hoenn team and the Johto saga was not that bad it was good the middle and the last part of the episodes of that saga were great.Hoenn was a little better then Johto but it also had crappy episodes that were not all that great but anyways it was a ok saga not the best.Pokemon is not the greatest thing of all time is still a good show but its not The Simpsons and people should never compare it with them.

1.) I personally think Buizel is one of the more personable Pokémon on the current team, though this may be bias due to how I like its species (as my avatar suggests).
2.) I'm sorry, but almost every ship involving any humans under 15 is nothing but wishful thinking and wild guessing. The only one that's given any intensional evidence is Ash and Misty, which I would still guess is just the writers toying with viewers.

Ah, what do I think of the Pokemon anime?

I love it! The 4Kids dub of Pokemon is one of my favorite shows! In fact, I'm such a huge fan of seasons 1 through 8, that I would watch those episodes every time they air on TV! :-D

Hehe, you can just call me a rerun-aholic. XD

And while I love seasons one and two for their nostalgia, they aren't my "favorite" seasons. My favorite seasons are actually Johto Journeys, Master Quest, and Pokemon Advanced. I really enjoy watching Johto and Hoenn! Those seasons are so awesome! ^_^

Oh, and in case you're wondering, I don't care much for episodes from D/P. I mainly watch those episodes simply to keep up with the show's storyline, and to understand what the characters are saying (because I don't watch the Japanese version). Needless to say, I don't enjoy the D/P seasons as much as I have enjoyed watching the 4Kids dub. I mean, the drop in quality is pretty obvious when you compare earlier seasons to D/P. But of course, that's just my opinion. =P
