Hey Guys, as you can see I'm new to Bulbagarden (although I have been looking at the forums for quite awhile) and I'm also new to writing. I have read a few brilliant fics here and I though I should try one myself. I hope you enjoy it and please be constructive with your criticism. :)

Pokémon: The Kanto Trainer

“I couldn't be bothered listening to this again!”

“Well then get the hell out!

A thunderous bang was heard below followed by the faint sound of tears. It was John's mother who was crying. This was not the first time his mother and father argued this week, nor was it the second or third. John had lost track of the number of arguments they have had recently. He tried not to think about the situation between them as tomorrow was an important day for him.

“Right just calm....calm.” he told himself, fighting back the tears.

“I'll just choose my Pokémon tomorrow and try to forget about all this stuff that's going on.”

John heard the front door swing open. His father walked in with a bottle of vodka and immediately threw his coat on the floor, ignoring his sobbing wife who was sitting on the sofa and clutching her curly blonde hair. Kate turned her head toward Matthew, who was now pouring the vodka into a glass.

“I.....” Kate stopped speaking and began hysterically crying again.

“What!” Matthew shouted.

“I want a divorce!” she screamed.

Matthew stopped pouring and slowly turned toward his wife.

“W-what?” Matthew hissed.

“I can't deal with this anymore Matthew, I want our son to stop hiding in his room all day, I want our son to go and enjoy raising a Pokémon and I want our son to stop hating his own parents!”

Matthew violently threw down his glass and began screaming at his wife. John jumped, his heart began racing and he was struggling to breath. He suddenly felt out of control of his own body like someone was forcing him to fall asleep. John's vision became blurred as cold seat dripped from his face. John collapsed. In the midst of the argument, a thud was heard from the floor above. Both Matthew and Kate stopped.

“John?” She shouted as she wiped tears from her face.

No response. Kate called out to John again. Still nothing. She slowly walked upstairs and saw her son's legs through the doorway.

“Oh my god!” she screamed.

Matthew bolted up the stairs and immediately began questioning what was wrong.

“John is unconscious!” she answered, “call an ambulance.”

Matthew quickly took out his phone and called for an ambulance.

The next day....

“I can't believe he took a panic attack” sobbed Kate, looking back at her soon in the back seat of the car, on their way back from the Pallet Town Hospital.

“Mom, I'm fine” He replied, “The doctor said there was nothing to worry about, he wouldn't have said I could go home otherwise.”

“Son, it's not normal for 13 year olds to have panic attacks.” she told him.

John was not worried about the whole ordeal, he knew that it was a warning signal for both his parents and he hoped this would stop them arguing.

“Son, me and your father have to tell you something when you get home so don't go rushing out to get your Pokémon from Professor Oak.”

Even though John knew what his mother was talking about, he was focusing his mind on other things. John had been dreaming about this day for a long time. Becoming a trainer for him was better than any birthday party or Christmas present because it was his future.

The car came to a stop. Matthew and Kate left the car. Kate looked at John who was still sitting in silence.

“John?” said his mother.

“Hm? Oh? We're home?” John said feeling surprised at how short the journey felt as he unbuckled his seat belt.

Matthew walked into the room and sat down on the sofa, followed by his wife and then John.

John was expecting his mother to sit him down and tell him that they were getting divorced. John walked over to the armchair and sat down.

“Well?” John said, raising his eyebrow.

They turned their attention to their son.

“Oh, well....here's the thing son, me and your father were talking and...well.” His mother tried to catch her breath.

John was waiting for the obvious “we're getting divorced”.

“We don't think you should get a Pokémon”

John's mind and stomach haulted.

“What.” he said, in a monotone voice.

what?why shouldnt he??? LOL!! great story, i saw like 1 typo and that was it! nice! And welcome to the forums!!

Why hello there, welcome to the forums!

That really was a shock ending.

I've got to be honest, I opened this up thinking it was going to be shit, based solely on the title ('The Kanto Trainer' is sooooo generic) but it's actually pretty interesting.

I'm actually really looking forward to the next chapter! Well done!

Thanks. :)

I agree with what you said about the title but there is an important reason as to why it's named "The Kanto Trainer".

Also, I will start Chapter 2 today but It might not be out until tomorrow. :)

Well, I was going to wait until tomorrow but I loved writing this chapter so much. I know it's shorter than I would have hoped but I really enjoyed writing the ending. Constructive criticism please. :)

Chapter 2

BANG. John violently slammed his bedroom door and locked it behind him.

“John!” His mother screamed.

“Go away!” he yelled, wiping the tears from his face.

John didn't care why they didn't think he should get a Pokémon, he wanted to raise a young Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle.

“I don't care what Pokémon I get.” He thought.

John began running his hands through his short brown hair, ignoring his mother who was still knocking in his door.

“That is, if I manage to get out of here and get one.”

The knocking stopped and Kate slowly walked down the staircase to the living room below. John had no idea how he was supposed to either sneak out and receive a Pokémon or convince his parents that he should get one.

“It doesn't help that I don't know why I'm not allowed one,” he told himself, “Damn! Why did I not wait until they were finished.”

John waited in his room, too stubborn to leave and ask his parents anything. Kate and Matthew sat down on the sofa.

“Are we in the wrong?” asked Kate, stirring her cup of coffee.

“No, if he can barely interact with us then he's not going to know what to do with a Pokemon.” Matthew replied.

“But he's been wanting to be a trainer for such a long time Matthew, do we really want our son to just stop wanting a Pokemon?”

“We both know that he's not going to just stop wanting one Kate.” answered Matthew, as he sat down beside his wife.

John quietly opened his squeaky door, trying to time it to the the next moment they begin talking again.

“I just think he's not ready to raise a Pokemon.” said Kate.

John had successfully opened his door, he now needed to tiptoe into his parents bedroom.

“He'll be fine without a Pokemon Kate,” he told her, “Pokemon are a waste of bloody time.”

“What did you just say?” questioned Kate, putting down her mug.

“They're are a waste of time, they do nothing but fight other Pokemon.” he laughed.

“What?! Pokemon are beautiful creatures!” She yelled.

“No they aren't.” he shouted.

John saw this as the perfect opportunity to run. He shuffled into his parents bedroom and violently swung open the window, knocking over his parent's alarm clock in the process. Matthew and Kate quickly realized what was going on.

“Damn it, he's trying to sneak out!” his mother claimed.

Kate ran up the creaky stairs and into his son's bedroom. Everything was fine. She turned her attention to her and Matthews bedroom.

“Matthew! He's went through our bedroom window!” she cried.

Matthew quickly put down mug and ran through the front door slamming it behind him, instinctively knowing where he would have gone.

“Well, I can't wait here doing nothing.” Kate thought.

She quickly ran down stairs, grabbed her coat and went outside.

John emerged from underneath their bed.

“Right, now it's time to pack.” He thought, smiling because of how well his plan worked.
