if you could make a live action pokemon movie who would you cast and what would the story be

If it was a Hollywood movie I'd cast an unknown Japanese kid (Provided he could speak English) to play Ash. His full name would be Satoshi Ash Ketchum. I'd love the whole thing with the Spearow in the first episode to appear in the movie as well. That's all I can think of at the moment.

No, please, no Hollywood movie/live-action movie. The writers would include only Misty - leaving out May and Dawn - and make the script so that Ash and Misty fall in love making PokeShipping real.

DO NOT WANT!

A Hollywood type of movie will certainly kill and overrule anything else the movies have done, with their emphasis on small and petty things like romance.

If they did a live-action movie, I could only see it working if they had a new cast and didn't use characters from the show.

Of course, they'd have to make the Pokemon CGI; they'd have to look more realistic instead of "cartoony blobs".

I'd do it without any characters from the show or games. And no cliches. And no stupid Hollywood junk you see in every movie. It'd be serious and every scene would be perfect. :D

Something tells me a Hollywood remake would be a terrible idea unless the filmmakers are true fans and have respect for it...a highly unlikely situation (at least for another 5 to 10 years, when some of the earlier fans are grown up and get into a position of power :)).

As for the potenial cast...I seriously have no idea who would be good for the roles. The only one I would be comfortable with casting is Meowth, who I think could be played by Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Gilbert Gottfried, or Jason Alexander (Jason and Jim would be my first choices). Yeah, I can't think of anyone else who can play the other role, but definitly not Jakcie Chan as Brock. That just doesn't sit right with me. Don't know about John Lone, as I haven't seen Rush Hour 2 in a while.

Of course Meowth would be a voice-over role (God help us if they just put a cat suit on the actor). I think it would be interesting how a visual effects team can pull off Pokemon so that they look like they are real without losing the uniqueness of the creatures. I think how Pip from Enchanted was done would work for Pokemon. Pip looked like a real squirrel while still keeping his cartoony movements and I think it would work for Pikachu, Piplup, Meowth, Togepi, and any other Pokemon.

(how sad; h1tm0nl33 asks who we would cast, and some of us are interested about how the Pokemon would be portrayed in a potential live action movie):).

How do you know that, that was just 4kids.

If they made a live-action Pokemon now, Misty probably wouldn't be in it, Dawn would be if they're using the current cast.

This is, of course, assuming it would even use the anime characters in the first place.

Alan Rickman as Giovanni. Seriously, watch one of the Harry Potter movies, pay special attention to Snape, and tell me that he is not the perfect actor for Giovanni.

Oh, and Johnny Depp is the ONLY actor for Sebastian; given Sebastian was clearly based on Depp anyway, he'd be perfect.

And if I suggested Hilary Duff as Misty, would you guys kill me?

It seems pretty obvious to me, given what Hollywood is liable to do; they'd base it more on the anime than the games, and they'd use Misty because she was the first girl to travel. Of course this is all my speculation, but it really seems obvious enough.

Well, at least it won't be like the live-action Dragonball Z movie.

You just made my day. Alan Rickman as Giovanni? HELL YES.

I think it's the way Sebastian looks.

*gags, dies*

I was about to comment on that, but realized that was not the point of this thread.

hmmm, John Travolta would make a good Giovaani, heh.

For Meowth, I would pick martin Lawarance for some reason, heh.

Jessie: someone with a good body like Halle Berry, or Pink. Or maybe jus t Pink.

James: If anyone watched VH1 realty shows, Mr.Boston seems like a perfect match for me.

Twerps: Doesn't really matter for me...

I think, at the risk of flames, it's worth pointing out Tim Burton would be the only director who could do this movie justice.

(and before anyone says "HE'D JUST MAKE IT GAWTH FOR ALL THE EMO KIDS!" I should mention Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was not the least bit Goth.)

(and not to mention that Burton directed the Peewee Herman movies too)

You guys on the first page do realize that Pokeshipping wasn't invented by 4kids and they only pushed it a little? They pushed Eldershipping *far* more and that was only later on.

Would anyone like to see a Magical Pokémon Journey movie? It would appeal to a wide demographic, although they'd shove in battling. But at least that way the inevatable romance wouldn't seem forced. But honestly MPJ is the *funniest* Pokemon series ("Men call me Clefairy! And I have come to put an end to your EEEEVIL! Battle me IF YOU DARE!" with the Utena rose and the fact that Clefairy is not only a wuss but drunk off his ass on cider).

If there was a Pokemon live action movie it probably wouldn't follow the anime at all.

It would most likely be about how a few kids find some strange creatures (the Pokemon) and how they would try to hide them from their parents without being caught, along with probably another storyline (such as a group of evildoers attempts to capture the Pokemon so they can be put on display in a place such as a zoo etc).

All those are good casting choices. I would go with Rickman over Travolta, but both could work as Giovanni. Martin Lawarance illustrates how I envision the actor of Meowth should be: a comedian who would bring humor to the movie.

I have one final idea on who I would cast for a live-action Pokemon movie: for the voice of Pikachu, I would cast...Ikue Ohtani. Seriously, she would be the only voice actor I cast in the movie because she has managed to make Pikachu an interesting and lovable character for (as of 11/9/08) 567 episodes (minus the few she missed for maternity leave) just by saying one word. I would so love it if she was a part of the live action cast.
