Decided to crank out another Pokemon RP before finishing up Agents of Fate II. This one’s a Persona 3-inspired Pokemon RP; hopefully the different elements mesh well. Let's see if this one actually gets off the ground:
The Tournament of the Abyss
Introduction:
Northwest of the Unova region, Knyte City is the city of dreams, a thriving metropolis of the future. Home to just under a million people, it is the envy of people the world over, with thousands of tourists coming from every region to admire it. Barely half a century old, it was designed to be the most beautiful city in the world. Though originally an independent settlement founded by Unova emigrants, after decades of relative isolation, Knyte City has thrown its gates open to the world. Day by day, the city grows larger, with all sorts of people hoping to build a bright new future in the city of dreams.
More importantly, the influx of Trainers has placed Knyte City on the map. Already, the Pokemon League looks to open up a new regional League there; three Gyms have already been established. With the Pokemon League comes a new branch of the Battle Frontier, offering a more difficult and intense challenge to the people of Knyte City. And within the past five years the prestigious Centra Academy has opened its doors in the heart of the city, offering a top notch education for Trainers of all kinds, isolated from the hustle and bustle of a larger region.
Yet, though Knyte City aspires to achieving utopia, becoming a shining example for the world, a hint of something darker lurks beneath. Though the tourists have no hope of seeing it, and even watchful Trainers hear only the barest scraps of rumors, Knyte City hosts the most secretive challenge of all, beyond even the Battle Frontier: the Noctis League. Open only to residents of the city, and then only by invitation, the Noctis League is an underground league, disposing of the formalities adopted by the Pokemon League, unleashing the raw, visceral experience of true combat. More than a Trainer’s skill and strategy is at stake; for the competitors, a battle in the Noctis League places everything on the line.
Of course, even in the darkest depths of the Noctis League goodwill and the spirit of honest sportsmanship remain. Even here, most Trainers battle out of a true desire to test their limits, not out of cruelty. But by its secretive, clandestine nature, the Noctis League naturally attracts the worst sort of Trainer. A new wave of competitors seeks to push the limits of the Noctis League, more than simply having the Trainers participate as well. They seek the use of weapons, of blood combat, of even horrific mutations to their Pokemon—to push battling in a way the world above has never seen.
The Noctis League has banned such radical measures, citing safety concerns; the seeming hypocrisy has split the community in two, between those who simply wish to battle alongside their Pokemon and those who wish to push that battling to unseen heights. And into the midst of this confusion and chaos, this conflict of adrenaline and bloodlust, a mysterious benefactor has stepped forth, and announced a Tournament of the Abyss, a tournament the likes of which the Noctis League—or Knyte City, or the rest of the world for that matter—has never seen.
Knyte City embodies the future, the shining city and the nightmarish pit of battle. What will you decide? How will you shape the future? And what will you find lurking in the depths of the abyss?

A street map of Knyte City
The heart of Knyte City is a simple grid of eight avenues by eight streets. Though the grid extends outwards into various neighborhoods and boroughs, most of the non-residential areas of the city are located within the grid. Though the grid does not perfectly align with a compass, the avenues run roughly north-south and the streets east-west.
Disrupting the perfect regularity of the grid are Knyte City’s three Plazas, the original settlements incorporated to create Knyte City. Centra Plaza is the largest, located near the heart of the grid; it houses key structures such as the City Government and Centra Academy’s campus.
Verdan Plaza, directly to the north of Centra Plaza, is of middling size; however, it is almost entirely wild, left relatively untouched by the sprawl of the city.
To the east of both Centra and Verdan is Battalia Plaza. Though smaller than Verdan, it attracts much more attention, neighboring the Battle Frontier and housing both one of Knyte City’s Gyms and the Noctis League.
North Boulevard links Centra and Verdan Plazas. Grand Boulevard joins Verdan and Battalia Plazas. Serene Boulevard connects Battalia and Centra Plazas.
The various districts highlighted on the map are:
Gameplay:
Gameplay is encouraged to be as freeform and expansive as possible. Your character can lead any sort of lifestyle you want: from a student at Centra, to an aspiring Trainer wandering through the city, to a fresh-faced Gym Leader, eager to take on the world, to a vagrant making a living betting at the Noctis League… the possibilities go on and on.
The only thing tying you all together? Your battling skills, and an invitation to the next tournament at the Noctis League. Noctis League Tournaments are held every so often, as well as the qualifiers for the Tournament of the Abyss. Beyond that, you’re free to develop your character however you wish.
Battles in the Noctis League are inspired by battles in the Pokemon Special manga; thus, unlike the games, Trainers are active participants in battles, and can be legitimate targets for attack. For safety reasons, all participants in the Noctis League are issued a suit of light body armor, though its use is only optional. The only armor whose use the League mandates are full face masks, both to prevent outright lethal damage and to conceal the identities of its participants, limiting retaliation outside the League.

Appearance: Detail is always good. Describe your character’s mask, and if your character wears anything special for Noctis League battles, put it here.
Personality: As always, detail.
History: See above. Explain how your character came to Knyte City, or how he or she grew up there.
Occupation: What you plan to be doing while not at the Noctis League—student, businessman, chef, Trainer, Gym Leader, whatever. NOTE: All 3 Gym spots are open, as well as an unlimited number of Frontier Brain positions.

Pokemon: You can have as many as 12 Pokemon, but as usual, only six on a team. Try to be realistic; if your character’s lived in the city all his life, it’s unlikely that he’ll have 12 fully-trained, fully-evolved Pokemon. On the other hand, that’s perfectly feasible for a Gym Leader.
Other: Anything else that doesn’t quite fit above?

The various districts highlighted on the map are:
- City Government – the complex of offices and civic buildings that manages Knyte City; City Hall, the Courthouse, and the Library are all found within the City Government’s district
- Financial District – the budding business sector of Knyte City
- Theater District – the primary entertainment district of Knyte City
- Midtown – the heart of the city, along with Centra Plaza, linking the various districts together. Knyte Terminal, the city’s major train terminal which connects Knyte City to Unova’s Gear Station in Nimbasa City, is found within Midtown, on Fourth Avenue and Sixth Street. It is the center of tourism within the city.
- The Heights – the wealthiest sector of the city, home to millionaires, private schools, and various museums and other dignified institutions.
- Downtown – the major recreational center of the city, along with Midtown. Many smaller businesses and shopping centers are found here.
- Parks – reclaimed areas of the three Plazas, open to the public. Major relaxation hotspots.
- PKMN League Facilities – the Pokemon League headquarters within Knyte City, it serves as a de facto embassy for the rest of the world. Though Knyte City is not recognized as part of an independent region, its distinct independence from Unova has allowed the League to recognize a City Champion, though one without an Elite Four. The League’s Facilities also contains several free battle arenas, making it a place of particular interest to Trainers.
- Centra Academy Campus – the location of the prestigious Centra Academy, a world-class battling school. Though initially open only to city residents, the informal establishment of a Knyte City League has convinced the Academy to open its doors to the world.
- Gym Facilities – the three Gyms of Knyte City, each associated with one of the Plazas.
- Centra Gym
- Verdan Gym
- Battalia Gym
- Battle Frontier – Knyte City’s local Battle Frontier. Though still under construction, it hopes to open within a few months.
- Noctis League Entrance – a series of nondescript warehouses along the edge of Battalia Plaza houses the secretive Noctis League. The warehouses actually contain luxurious rooms and nightclubs, with the arenas of the Noctis League hidden further underground.

Rules:
- Follow all BMGf rules. This includes the obvious ones: be respectful, no spamming, etc.
- Be descriptive. Short posts make for a boring RP. Aim for at least three sentences, maybe even a paragraph.
- Keep OOC to a minimum. Any major discussion should be here, in the sign-up thread. Any OOC in the start-up should be game-oriented.
- No god-modding. Defeating everything effortlessly and solving every problem instantly makes for a very boring RP.
- Don’t control other players’ characters. This is simply proper procedure in any RP.
- Listen to the GM. I’m here to keep gameplay going and ensure things don’t go out of control.
- Read the rules and background information. They’re here for a reason. Reading the entire first post makes gameplay much smoother.
