first time sharing our art here. we've been working on a pokemon self insert story thing - we're a system, so rather than just having one singular sona, a bunch of us have our own sonas who can be their own characters here.
the doctor is adrianus, he basically helps travelers in areas without pokemon centers. time's gym leader role is already explained in the art. the guy with the absol is jim, he's studying specific pokemon (mainly psychic and ghost types). then the last one is shark, a person who took on the gym challenge as a kid but ended up giving up on it, and now just kind of wanders around without any real goal or direction. oh, and bill is there as the volunteer in time's show - that's just the actual bill from pokemon, he's an introject in our system. i feel like he really is the kind of person who'd volunteer for something like that.
we haven't decided on a lot of specific story details or the region itself, but we've been kicking around the idea of it being centered around superstition, just because it ends up being kind of a relevant theme here - you know, jim is researching pokemon who'd be considered supernatural, and time is perpetuating and taking advantage of malamar's reputation and myths surrounding it (well, they're myths in our canon at least). it'd make sense if this was a region where people thought of "supernatural pokemon" as their own category, and had weird ideas about them, which some people work to debunk and others play into or fully believe in. we've also considered having some kind of cresselia and darkrai theme, which could kind of fit with adrianus and time there, even down to the color scheme of their outfits. i always liked the premise of the rise of darkrai, where dreams were having this direct influence on their reality. i think we might have something like that.
anyway, this is an art thread and not a writing thread, but i wanted to give some background. in terms of art commentary... malamar is surprisingly awkward to draw. and i spent a lot of effort looking up references for the saddle thing for galarian rapidash - i just felt like it was important to think about how adrianus transports supplies and gets around and stuff. it really made me think about the reality of using an actual animal for transportation. since pokemon's all about the relationships between people and pokemon and all the different ways pokemon can be a part of their lives, it's kind of fitting. it really was a pain to draw though - it'd probably be a lot easier just drawing it carrying the supplies, so that the supplies cover up the actual saddle.
