Ever Since Tsunekazu Ishihara announce the pokemon game to switch for next year, the fans are pulling away from last month's announcement of Pokemon UltraSun/UltraMoon. The reason that Tsunekazu Ishihara announce a pokemon game for switch this early, because TPC and GF wanted to make it up to fans for not putting pokemon on Switch. The speculation is going on since the beginning of the E3. What does this mean for US/UM? With 30 second of the announcement footage, lack of Corocoro info, and No reveals at the E3 (The pokemon game always have a gameplay of the demo and official trailer at e3), Instead they focused on Pokken Tournament. I'm starting to think that UltraSun/UltraMoon will be a low-effort project for the pokemon fans, While a pokemon game for Switch will be the bigger project. That's the thing I'm worried about, because it feels like the fans already shying away from UltraSun/UltraMoon and put it's focus on Pokemon Game for Switch, even though US/UM is release this year in November 17th. If UltraSun/UltraMoon is some sort of cash grab, a low-effort project, with GF doesn't think it'll be their priority, then this will affect the US/UM sales when the release date comes. I also feel like were going to get less info for UltraSun/UltraMoon through throughout the months before the game will be released (Corocoro Leaks are Still necessary, maybe GF doesn't want to reveal too much info, until you get the game. We probably not going to get a demo version of it, to prevent Hackers from datamining the game). What do you think will UltraSun/UltraMoon be a big project for fans want to buy, or will it be a minor project that will affect the sales?

Well, no info at E3 for USUM. But it's still early to tell whether USUM is to tide us over. I'm leaning towards a maybe.

Well of course they're a "minor project"; biding time is already part of the function of third versions/remakes, and these ones happen to be coming out on a console that has performed decently, but has also received plenty and is nearing its end while a much more revolutionary successor waits on the horizon.

That being said, USUM are no worse off right now than ORAS were at first (they had only the teaser video, and then later some inconsequential in-game footage of Groudon/Kyogre awakening). They were only announced a week ago... a small trailer and a reiteration in Corocoro are roughly about right for such an early stage of the prerelease.

I also don't think the Switch announcement at E3 was any particular kind of damage control; Nintendo clearly want to emphasize the Switch, and adding confirmation of an eventual main series Pokémon game for it is yet another major announcement that they can pile onto that. It just makes sense if you ask me.

Sure, but they could have been announced last month and received a proper showcase at E3, much like ORAS. Not a single mention of them at E3 is not a good way to generate hype.

And let's not forget that last week's Direct was mainly about Pokken DX. Imagine if ORAS had been announced in the tail end of a Super Smash Bros trailer.

It makes sense, but it's definitely a distraction from USUM. Nothing like this has happened before.

It reminds me of Nintendo announcing Fire Emblem Switch. Absolutely nothing on the game, just a confirmation that it is happening and that the future of the series isn't on 3DS.

Now that you mention, the game always been announce around early May, and they got a proper E3 trailer like ORAS did. US/Um was announce late one week before the E3 started and we got no new info from the E3 and no new info from the corocoro. I was thinking that Pokken Tournament was the main focus and US/UM a distraction from the fans, we probably won't get any new info this month, because the Corocoro usually gives out new information and then they shows off the trailer of the discussion of the corocoro. We probably get some new info in Next month's Corocoro along with the trailer

You're right TCP and GF always have never done this before, I think they're trying to give out less information this time, like they did in the past game. I think this time they'll rely on Corocoro leaks to give out the details, but that won't stop the leakers from leaking information (which is a good thing, because we leak season already started on Rumours/Fakes/Leaks Discussion Thread (V2)).

Isn't it too early to create hype yet anyway? I mean, it releases in November. That's still pretty far away

The Switch game is also still at least a year away, so it sounds like a future project and something we shouldn't expect much of yet

I am not buying these games and I am definitely not rushing to buy a Switch until I see that the next generation is worth it (unlike DP and XY).

Regarding the poll, the third option is invalid since no one can speak for the whole fanbase lol

Also, where are the 'It is like any other Pokemon Game' and 'It means nothing for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon' options?

Sorry for nitpicking but I cannot bring myself to agree with any of the options, and all of them are at the drastic ends of the spectrum.

Reading the thread, I'm not sure that your average casual buyer (which constitutes the majority of the sales) would be educated enough to understand the difference between a sequel and a third version. To a newcomer, I think the box info. will strongly imply that it's a sequel.
And I'm not so sure that Jimmy's mom will check if the game is a sequel or a third version before buying it as a Christmas present for Jimmy.

So I think the games will have lower sales, but nothing too drastic.

Since Ultra Sun Ultra Moon consume way less resources than initial versions or remakes, GameFreak will not be much impacted by how well, or how less the games sell.

I wasn't aware that we were discussing the games from Game Freak's perspective. This thread is about how the games are received by fans.

I know perfectly well what is the thread about. But sales define the games' future direction. (And weren't you the first person to make your entire post about sales?)
I'll just end the sales thing here.

No, you mentioned sales first. And since there is a correlation between sales and consumer perception, I made a point about the sales being much lower than alternative projects they could have opted for.

I think they'd put less effort into USUM or any other sequels compared to the first games of each new gen.
The 2nd pair of games is almost certainly destined to sell less than the first games of each gen.

Moreover... the majority of people are hyping about the Switch game already.
