That's right. From 13th May until 15th July, the Special Rulings section of the Battle Spot will be changing from VGC14 rules (Kalos Pokédex, 4v4 Doubles) to Inverse Battles (Singles) but with a catch - all type effectivenesses are reversed!

So, what Pokémon are you planning on using? What Pokémon do you think have become more viable and which ones will suffer?

Avalugg is a better Skarmory, with better natural physical bulk, Recover, which doesn't add weaknesses like Skarm's Roost does in normal battles, only 1 weakness, Mirror Coat + Sturdy for those trying to target his lower defense, and Rapid Spin (which doesn't remove your own hazards and is not blockable by Taunt like Defog). Grass, Bug, and Normal are premier types for offense and defense, and Sun is a very strong playstyle. Sawsbuck, Leavanny, Venusaur, etc are good sweepers.

Off-topic but they should have made Inverse Battle as an actual option in the Battle Maison and also as an option in online battling. Bugs are going to be monsters offensively by htting seven types with super effective damage and poor Steel types, they have a ton of weaknesses in Inverse Battle.

Abomasnow was pretty competitively viable anyway due to Snow Warning, but has its typing benefited by Inverse Battles? Now it will have 7 resistances.

Yes

Pokémon Showdown!'s got a ladder, but it's 6v6 Smogon style as opposed to 3v3 Nintendo style. It does have a separate (if similar) banlist than OU iirc though.

I imagine it'll be pretty great, the Bug resistance is nice and Grass STAB is always lovely in Inverse~

Strong Normal types are going to be a pain, MegaKhan was already troublesome but stopping it now is going to be even harder, as nothing can prevent it from getting off a PuP.

Krookodile looks like it might be a nice anti-meta mon, as it nails Bug and Grass types while resisting both of their STABs, and Knock Off is actually even more spammable now than before.

Chestnaught is going to be the best counter to Talonflame by resisting one of his STAB 4x and the other 2x and has STAB against Talonflame 4x. Also realized that Normal type is broken in Inverse Battle, SE against Rock, Steel and Ghost, having only weakness to Ghost, resisting Fighting and hitting every other type with neutral damage.

This is going to let my Sigilyph face off against Dark types and not be bogged down by immunities to Stored Power :D

Fighting is still decent offensively, kinda feels like it traded in a set of coverage for another (Poison, Flying, Ghost, Fairy, Bug, Psychic).

EDIT: Electivire covers itself pretty well thanks to Motor Drive and I'm trying to find a way to abuse Normalize on Delcatty. Trying to test out M-Banette with Shadow Claw/Will-o-wisp/Knock Off/Destiny Bond to go against the M-Kangaskhans that will run rampant.

Grass/Rock is a fantastic defensive type combination in this meta. Boasting key resistances to Fighting, Bug, Ice, and Steel, with its only downfall being a weakness to Normal(and also electric but lol electric), the two types with the most inverted weaknesses compliment each other well.

What stinks is that there's no real way to practice this meta in-game. Has Pokémon Showdown or a similar simulator included Inverse Battles yet?

In regards to @Norzan;'s comments about Chesnaught, I do wonder how viable Grass/Fighting types will be? Because wouldn't they have the same number of weaknesses as resistances? Perhaps that's why the more bulkier Chesnaught would be seen as a more viable option over Breloom.
To that end, wouldn't this make Torterra a viable tank, as it would only be weak to Electric, Ground and Rock while resisting Flying, Bug, Fire and Ice? (Hell yes. I'd love to use Torterra, as it has to be my favourite fully evolved starter). It's Electric weakness will be 4x though if I'm thinking of this correctly, which could hurt it admittedly.

Pokemon Showdown has a ladder for it, though it doesn't get a lot of players (yet) so it might take a while to get a match going. It's set up as 6 vs 6, singles.

Here's a battle I had recently: Inverse Battle replay: sharkshocker vs. PokeMadness1996 - Pokémon Showdown (Roost is pretty nice as it gets rid of Fighting/Ground/Grass/Bug weaknesses)

Retired team. Peaked #1 on the IB ladder before promptly dropping to ~1350 (pretty sure they started counterteaming me, everyone is suddenly packing Abomasnow and Tyranitar and such xD)
