Pokemon Will Not Air on The CW This Fall

Yeah, I heard about this already (in the Bulbanews forum)......

And personally, this news just makes me even more worried about the dub than I was before (I already had the VA thing to worry about, now I have this thing to worry about as well!). :-(

*sighs* Oh Pokemon, my favorite show, what is happening to you?

Since PUSA is dubbing it, they'll probably move to CN (perhaps Toonami even). Though, they lose their broadcast only people. Frak KidsWB. I don't need to watch that crap anymore.

Hah, at least we won't have to sit through those idiotic commercials for Kids WB shows.

But this is just another thing to make me worry.

Isn't Yu-Gi-Oh! in its final season anyway, meaning it would have left the block regardless of how good or bad the ratings were?

And last I heard, Pokemon was still the network's #1 rated show.

Why the heck does SPP claim "falling ratings" as one of the reasons CW won't air Pokemon? Everybody's always said it's been one of their #1 cartoons.

Doesn't Cartoon Network already have the rights to the latest episodes anyway?

The way I see it, the show's better off without the WB following all the stupid shit they've pulled. With a new dubbing team and a new network, the dub could finally become a respectable thing rather than the black sheep of the Pokemon family.

Now that I think about it...when was the last time we saw a ratings report for Kids' WB? The latest I was able to come up with was fourth quarter 2004.

So maybe it's like Teen Titans, where the show was doing great a year ago but doesn't get the same great ratings it used to.

Kids WB/CW's ratings are going to drop. Like a brick.

Hopefully this will be on CN and not something obscure.

"Gone will be longtime Kids WB! staples Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, both which have been falling steadily in the ratings."

It could be that they're just talking out of their ass.And are only assuming that they're dropping each series because of low ratings.Unless of course, they know something we don't.

If it was because of low ratings, that could possibly be blamed on the animated block moving to Saturdays only.New episodes, new series, etc. were always advertised during the weekdays.

Yeah, they're going to eat their words. Pokemon is one of Kids' WB's strongest hooks. Without it, they will suffer greatly. I know it's one of two reasons I even still watch the WB. The other is Xiaolin Showdown, and I don't know it's fate. The other programs that Kids' WB stresses, I'm not sure how strong they are in terms of ratings. The only problem for me is that I have no idea when CN airs pokemon. I haven't seen on there for eons.

EDIT: read the article again, and evidently Xiaolin Showdown will continue. o.o

I too am worried about if they'll just stop dubbing it and like air any dubbed episodes before the merge. Also they'll probably stick the movie in there somewhere

Here's the most recent ratings report I was able to dig up. It pretty much covers the last few months of 2005. All the important bits are in bold.

Let's start with the Top 5 overall in K6-11 and the Top 5 broadcast network shows in K6-11. Remember, all calculations are based on the numbers given by Cynopsis Kids and are just estimates, and that these only count Saturday morning airings only!

21. That's So Raven

Other Toon Zone Notables (57 shows met the minimum requirement of five airings during the survey period):
26. Yu-Gi-Oh: Grand Championship/Dawn of the Duel
27. Winx Club
28. Kim Possible
36. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
42. One Piece
(Note: If anyone wants a ranking or official numbers for any shows listed here/not listed here, please let me know!)

Well, there were definitely some surprises over the fall, but it's still the regular suspects at the top of the list. 'SpongeBob SquarePants' pulled away from 'Fairly Oddparents' in the final weeks of '05 to win the overall #1 Saturday morning show award, while 'Pokémon' cruised to the #1 broadcast spot.

So where are the surprises, you ask? Three freshman shows winning their network their titles. 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody' for ABC is one, though we knew it would give 'That's So Raven' a run for its money. 'Brandy & Mr. Whiskers' took Disney Channel's title, though they mostly cater to preschoolers on Saturday mornings. The biggest title winner surprise, well, at least to us here at TZ, was the 4KidsTV title being taken by 'Bratz.'

The other titles were taken by 'Codename: Kids Next Door' (Cartoon Network), 'Dora the Explorer' (Nick Jr. on CBS), and 'Trading Spaces: Boys vs. Girls' (Discovery Kids on NBC). For the winners' full numbers, look below!

Network Numbers, Kids 6-11 (9/10/05-12/31/05)
This is where all of the 8 networks (5 broadcast, 3 cable) stand as of December 31, 2005. Final numbers arrived at by adding all of the ratings from every show that aired on the network this season, and dividing by the total number of shows. Included after each network's rating is the channel's #1 show and its rating.

Note: Though mini-marathons are counted, airings of specials/movies are not. Therefore, the ratings for the following are not counted in this measurement:

'Danny Phantom: Ultimate Enemy' (9/17), 'The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy Christmas' (12/17 & 12/24), 'Krypto the Superdog' (12/24), 'Rolie Polie Olie' (12/24), 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' (12/24), 'Olive the Other Reindeer' (12/24), 'House of Mouse Christmas' (12/24), 'Johnny Bravo Christmas' (12/24), 'The Night Before Christmas' (12/24), 'That's So Raven' [1 hr episode, Disney Channel] (12/31).

1. Nickelodeon, 4.57 ('SpongeBob Squarepants,' 5.78)
2. Cartoon Network, 2.87 ('Codename: Kids Next Door,' 3.10)
3. Kids' WB, 2.21 ('Pokémon,' 2.77)
4. ABC Kids, 1.66 ('The Suite Life of Zack & Cody,' 2.15)
5. Disney Channel, 1.42 ('Brandy & Mr. Whiskers,' 2.25)
6. 4KidsTV, 1.35 ('Bratz,' 1.83)
7. Nick Jr. on CBS, 0.66 ('Dora the Explorer,' 0.87)
8. Discovery Kids on NBC, 0.62 ('Trading Spaces: Boys vs. Girls,' 0.76)

I call bullshit on the whole "our ratings are bad" excuse.

lol, that better be a joke.

Seriously though, I'm betting if it isn't a mistake from WB, then it probably will be on CN. Kids WB can crash and burn for cancelling all their anime for all I care. Especally because there ratings will definately go down.

However these ratings also explain why Turner is doing crap to copy Nick. Nick has their target demograph, though I think it's kind of innacurate because their teen targeting block, toonami, is probably attracting 6-11 year olds (from looking at my family it sure is though).

I guess I'm not in the demograph for Nick, but I hate that network. It's gone down the hole, and obviously can't attract pre-teens and teenagers like they could before (judging by how their shows are made, like the reducing of the ages of their stars before (though now those actors got older again, trying to attack the pre-teen to steal from disney and CN) and the moch and copy anime they put out (as with the blatent smashing on current Nicktoons of it).

CN doesn't need to do that, and they definately need to keep the live action stuff off the network.

I agree that CN is pretty likely the best bet for the anime, ABC if it is to stay on broadcast television. While I do think CN has been on a slope, i'd like to believe they'd be smart enough to take on Pokémon. I mean, they took on One Piece after 4Kids tv canned it. In anycase this doesn't incite fear or worry in me. Pokémon is valuable to stay up in the air for very long. I am pretty much assured season 9 will air somewhere this fall.

Since Cartoon Network in the UK has had such a huge success with Pokemon and Chronicles - the parent company in the US, who as already stated a number of times have the lisence to the show anyway are more than likely just going to keep hold of it and air it themselves.

Honestly, i've never seen such a bunch of worry-worts in my life.

I blame the new VAs. Maybe it's my SOVA bias, but it makes sense.

Still, I doubt they're gonna stick it on cable only, since they'd lose a lot of viewers (myself included.) My money (all $80 of it) is on ABC, who picked up Power Rangers after Fox lost it in the aftermath of their deal w. 4Kids. (That was not a bet, by the way, so don't expect anything on your PayPals if I turn out wrong)
