Greetings. I'm moving my region, characters, and items from my blog posts and drafts to the Atlas, partially because the blog isn't to be used for such things further down the road, and partially because this is where minds inclined to help develop the Onoka region will likely be.

Well, that's why I'm here posting; why I'm here writing and some of the rationale for Onoka and the larger fict-world will be found below the Thread Key (which is itself under the Update Log) after I post it.

Update Log: 01/02/13 4:59 EST--Added a "Help Wanted" section (Post 2). Look here if you're inclined to read data spoilers and help shape Onoka.

("Thread") Update Log, Thread Key, Author Rationale, Fiction Rationale, Onoka Rationale--Post 1
("Help Wanted") "Onoka College," Desired Feedback--Post 2
("Beginnings") Region Rationale, Regional Conflict, PCs, Immediate NPCs--Post 3
("Pokemon") Starters, OnokaDex/work, Ideas/work--4
("Data") Abilities, Attacks, Items,
("Journey" 1) Gyms/work,
("Journey" 2) Villain/work,
("Endings") Elite 4/work,
("Conclusion")
("Post-Game")
--Post 15
Note: Each Post will have its own mini-key and update log.

Thread in progress, good golly I've been up a long time. Atlas substance is on the blog--only the posting here is pending.

Re: Pokemon World Plus--New Order Region One, Onoka!

Updates:
Record of Changes:
~

Major/Immediate Help Wanted:
Grass starter's name, abilities,* movepool; Basis:
The Onoka Grass starter family is based off of 1) the Chinese Zodiac mouse/rat, 2) actual mouse species with potential Grass motifs in their species names (such as the cotton mouse, the harvest mouse, the pack rat [aka the wood rat], the bush rat, the swamp rat, the field rat, the rice-field rat, the cane rat, and the greater cane rat), and 3) swords, one in particular to heavily influence the naming (that the fully evolved pokemon is based off) being Kusanagi. The Grass starter's name might also be a play on "puppy" or "kitten," which can both be applied to a baby mouse or rat. His movepool is to also reflect traits of these various inspirations--for instance, he will have "Switcheroo" because of the odd inclinations of the pack rat, and will have Flying attacks like "Air Cutter" and "Air Slash" because of the Kusanagi's traits.

To mention a strange synergy that I will surely use: the grasscutter rat is the greater cane rat; the grasscutter sword is the Kusanagi. I in fact got the sword/rat idea by looking up the greater cane rat, which further influenced the ideas of the 3 starters.* As such it isn't too hard to work good synergy into the name.

Super-spoiler alert: The starters are to have the typical abilities of Overgrow, Blaze, and Torrent, and are to have a hidden ability each as well; they are also to have a third ability, a "Regal Form" ability. Abilities I am considering for the Grass starter are Gluttony, Immunity, Harvest, Effect Spore--and if you have any better idea, feel free to mention it.

Fire Starter's name, abilities,* movepool; Basis:
The Onoka Fire starter family is based off of 1) the Chinese zodiac snake, 2) the Seraph (based off of the dual usage of the term in the Bible--also, see the "Brazen Serpent"), 3) snakes and snake motifs, 4) fire and fire motifs, 5) Jade, serpentine/lizardite, and related rocks, and 6) magatama and, in particular, Yasakani no Magatama. The starter's name may involve the word "starter" instead of a pun off of "hatchling" or something similar, because I think the term "Fire starter" particularly funny.

This Fire pokemon is to be particularly odd among its Fire starter brethren. It will be healing oriented. It may, I might decide, not have Dark, Poison, or Dragon type moves--Dragon moves because the Dragon is a fellow member of the Chinese zodiac, and Poison and Dark moves because of the healing serpent's image in Exodus, and the Seraphim account of Isaiah. Very possibly one, two, or all three limitations might be scrapped. The rock inspirations work because of how metamorphic rock is formed--heat and pressure. With "lizardite" and "serpentine" some obvious puns arise, also making it easier to condense name punniness. Another possible naming motif might be the "fire coil."

Super-spoiler alert: The starters are to have the typical abilities of Overgrow, Blaze, and Torrent, and are to have a hidden ability each as well; they are also to have a third ability, a "Regal Form" ability. Abilities I am considering for the Fire starter are White Smoke, Immunity/Poison Heal, Wonder Skin, Marvel Scale--and if you have any better idea, feel free to mention it.

Post reserved 3/12. Please note post 2 if you're inclined to help at all. Desired help has mostly to do with naming. Feel free to interrupt the reserved posts (i.e., take posts 11 or 12) if you have an idea, submission, or suggestion. (You can then keep your post as an honorary honor or can later delete it.)

Chest/belly one-piece segment (semi-segmented body) is much like Palkia's shoulder pad; chest has a hollow, where a Light Ball can be held. Considerations(?):
Onoka's Pokemon and theirType Combinations:
I've squeezed in a few new combinations, and some older, rarer ones.

Now, some notes: many of the early pokemon early on are Normal types, even the starters. This gives them STAB on their early moves. Quite a few pokemon lose the typing; many others keep it. (For some, it depends on how weak they are to Fighting moves.) As well, Fighting types are somewhat abundant. The type receives a few new powerful additions, and some powerful new moves. There are enough powerful Fighting type pokemon to give the last gym leader 4 varied and strong pokemon.

Onoka's Pokemon, Type Balance and Availability:
Offensively, a Dragon Attack is all-around better than a normal attack. There are a few potent Dragon pokemon.

As well, with Normal and Fighting types prevalent, I've provided enough Ghost types for at least one of the final trainers.

Other than that, there are large numbers of pokemon for each type, and at least 7 families of each type can be encountered early on.
