I'm bringing back XCD in a rewrite: I felt my original story needed to be polished. The story is mostly the same: Serena is the primary protagonist in a battle against evil creatures called the Spawn. Her adventures lead her to the farthest reaches of the Pokémon world and back in her quest to save the world. There won't be as many main characters this time around and they might be different. Hopefully, I'll do better than before. I hope you enjoy it.

PROLOGUE

3000 years ago:

A sorcerer named Vega was enraged at the state of the world. Creatures called maju lived amongst humans, possessing supernatural powers and capable of incredible feats of strength. By all accounts, humans should be under their feet, servants to the beasts. In truth, humans were able to domesticate and eventually befriend the maju, becoming their partners and their equals. Vega, however, did not see it this way. He knew that humans still prayed to the maju and revered them as gods, a disgusting act he could not abide. Humans were the ones in control, so they were the rightful gods of the earth. Moreover, Vega himself was seen unfavorably not only for these views, but additionally for the fact that he could not control the maju. Never in his life had he bonded with or befriended them. Not as a child, and definitely not as he was now. Vega was cast aside by his fellow humans and therefore the world, furthering his contempt.

“How can they preach such thoughts of togetherness when everything they stand for is a lie?” Vega’s mind was constantly racing with the idea that the rest of the world was flawed beyond repair. “Maju are not our friends. They oppress us mercilessly without ever having to exert themselves. We fall to them in an instant.” Vega preached to other humans that their race was in danger of falling into permanent oppression. “I implore you to see reason. Cease your devotion to the maju. Show them you are the true rulers!” His pleas fell on deaf ears; he still couldn’t gather any followers.

“Cretins, all of them.” It was then Vega realized he was on his own, as he always was, but that only meant he didn’t need to worry about others getting in his way. He could work on his plans with impunity, never tethered to any ideology but his own. This also meant the entire world could now be subject to his whims. Vega would spend decades honing his magical talents for vengeance against all who wronged him, humans and maju alike. The utter idiocy and cruelty they all displayed made him sick. If he could not live with them, he would rule them all.

Vega eventually created a new spell that derived power from his immense hatred. It gained more fuel from the contempt his fellow humans aimed at him and the distrust the maju unfairly held. In fact, malicious thoughts and actions from all beings were fuel for Vega’s magic. One such event concerning a great war resulted in the loss of many lives. This was one of the greatest catalysts Vega used as a source of power. All of the negativity that followed the sorcerer his whole life and all that pervaded the earth; now he’d use it to crush everything in his path.

“This world will come to an end.” The citadel in which he lived suddenly crackled with black lightning, seen throughout the land. Soldiers mobilized, sensing that Vega was about to produce something horrible. They brought their maju with them, fliers, hounds and reptiles alike. Surely, Vega would not stand up to their combined might. Storming the citadel was fairly simple, as there were no guards and the maju withstood the sorcerer’s enchantments. The soldiers finally reached the top to confront Vega, yet were unprepared for what lied in wait.

“So, you have come for me. Good. It saves me the trouble of seeking you.” His sandy blonde hair and beard glowed silver, and soon the rest of his body followed. The maju sent fire, ice, lightning and all other manners of elemental power against him. He reflected it right back at the creatures and the soldiers. The humans were likewise unable to stop Vega with direct attacks. His strength knocked a few of them out of his citadel and to their deaths. “A shame they won’t see the beginning of my new world.” The last thing the soldiers and their maju saw was the image of a black dragon surrounding Vega and exploding outward.

The same dragon now stood over Vega’s deceased opponents, with Vega nowhere to be found. Red lines traveled across his body like a person’s veins. Six wings matching the veins’ color sprung from the dragon’s back. Additionally, whip-like tentacles joined the wings, swinging around madly and looking for targets. They found none, so the dragon crashed through the citadel’s roof. His flight took him over land and sea, across sky and the world itself. His dark influence spread out and created creatures as evil as he was, neither human nor maju: they were called Spawn. These beasts, including the dragon himself, all had the ability to turn humans and maju against each other and control them for their own gain. The Spawn became a plague on the world, the very subversion of order Vega sought. However, that would not break the spirits of the natives of the earth. They have fought for their right to continue their way of life and to vanquish these deadly foes for three millennia. Today is no different and a champion will soon rise, leading the way against the Spawn in the ultimate battle.

VOICE CAST

Vega: Patrick Stewart

I have no idea how long the time between chapters will be, but I'll try to be more consistent this time around.

I had been planning to read the original XCD, but lost track of time and pretty soon there were dozens of chapters posted. Here's my chance to start from the beginning.

A sorcerer named Vega was enraged at the state of the world.

I like how detached this line feels. It tells you what' going on rather than making you feel as though you were a part of the story, and that gives your prologue a really interesting epic sort of vibe. Almost, as perhaps you intended, giving this whole introduction the feel of a prophecy or fable being read.

It really is rather impressive as to how much characterization you managed to fit into these two paragraphs. You summarized Vega's motivation, gave us a little insight into who he is, touched upon his dreams. Quite nice. While he doesn't strike me as the most original villain I've read, particularly in the department of his motivation, I particularly like his rationalizations and his internal thoughts as a whole. You took a minimalistic approach to character development in this prologue, and I really think that in a prologue less is indeed more. I'm not sure if he'll reappear (I figure he will, since he sounds like the leader of the Spawn), but whether he does or not, you've provided enough of a sketch of his character to justify the events of the prologue, and that really is what counts here.

Vega: Patrick Stewart

He never struck me as the villain/dark wizard type. I would have picked someone more cliché like Christopher Lee or Ian McDiarmid. Kudos for an original casting choice.

This is a nice example of an economically sweeping prologue. You took a minimalist approach and it definitely worked here. Too much description, too much backstory, too much characterization and things can become a bit long-winded, but you definitely avoided that. Quick and snappy, with a sort of archaic-narrative impression. I'll be curious to see what style things take once the actual story starts.

Vega himself is considered a Greater Scope Villain: he isn't really in the plot directly in the present, but he is the one who started it. Malus (the dragon) is the manifestation of his will, however, and Vega will have some appearance in both past and present before the story ends. XCD will be different than how I wrote it before, and I'm sorry you didn't get the chance to read the original. Still, I hope you'll enjoy what I have to offer this time around and I'm glad you liked the prologue. Also, Patrick Stewart was always planned on for the antagonist's voice. My system's strange, but I think it works.

I haven't gotten a full chapter of XCD just yet, but I'd like people to know I'll have some supplemental material on my restarted blog. It'll be updated whenever I'm able to gather enough information to post, starting with a bio for Serena now.

Wanted to share my thoughts since I never got around to it last time. It's a nice intro and serves for the sort of thing you'd see in an anime/animation: the big prologue at the beginning introducing the mythology to come into play later. I am certainly intrigued and will keep following when you post the full chapter. My one note would be to make sure you expand on Vega, his reasons and his actions, at some point in the story. This made for a nice introduction and raised my interest, but there are details missing so make sure you don't just put stuff as supplementalary material.
