Hey guys. I'm back but I don't think people noticed my post in the Garden Grotto, but I'm glitchhunter09 (that's right the same guy from Youtube that some people may know.) However, these days I go by the name Glisp most other places.

Anyway, I figured I'd show you guys a couple of odd Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness screen shots I found and photographed in the Official Nintendo Power Strategy Guide and go over what's different. I have found 2 images so far and I think that's all there is sadly. :(

Anyway, here they are so heads up if you use dial up. These are very large jpg files. (around 2.60 MBs):

On second thought, to save room and to not make things look huge and scary on the boards I'll just post the links to the pictures instead.

In this first image, we have the fight with Thug Zook. The image looks like it would be in the final, EXCEPT......... there is something a little odd with the Shadow Ralts. If you'll look carefully at the Shadow Ralts' HUD, you'll notice it is at level 25. In the final version of the game, its at only level 20 (or level 20+ as in the case with Shadow Pokemon, whatever the plus means.)

Again, nothing unusual about this image except, if you'll look closely, you'll notice that the Shadow Nosepass appears to be at level 25+. In the final, its level 26+. (though I may have to retake this picture as its very difficult to see and the 5 almost looks like a 6 but the 5 is clearly visible in the original but smaller image.

Anyway, I'm not sure why they have different levels or why a pre-release is in English. Perhaps the English text was just edited over the Japanese text in the original image (if there is one) or perhaps the Gamecube prototype disk the pre-release featured in the above photos was on was multi-regional and adjusted to whatever the region settings on the Gamecube it was played off of were. I'm not sure and we may never know. At least not for a very long time anyway....

Thoughts?

Something similar happened with Colosseum. Colosseum's manual has a screenshot of the player's party, which included a Shadow level 30 Hariyama. Not only was the Shadow Makuhita you capture in the game lower in level, but it's also impossible to evolve it (of course, until you purify it). And yes, the screenshot was in English.

There was another thing like that in Pokemon Blue. The manual had an image that said "The Brock wants to battle" or something like that. They removed that for obvious reasons.

FYI, the this isn't from the user manual. Its from the official Nintendo Power Guide.

Interesting note though:
The purification chamber tutorial has a Shadow Loudred in it but there is actually no real Shadow Loudred in the game. It appears in the PC box, along with the Shadow Carvhana (god I hope I speeld that right. Been a while since I saw how its spelled.)

Also, I played a Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness Demo at Wal-Mart once a few years ago. The Demo took place a Cipher Key Lair. Professor Krane and a couple of other guys, along with the main character are standing outside.

Professor Krane tells you how to Snag a Pokemon and sends you on your way. The Cipher Peons you fight are all called "Spies".
The only Cipher member in the final retail version that is labeled as a "Spy" is Napps, the guy you Snag the Shadow Teddiursa from.

This Demo probably was just made for demonstration purposes and has nothing at all to do with the prototype. However, I do find the whole concept of the said Gale of Darkness demo interesting...
