Pokemon you're tired of seeing every generation...

There's just some Pokemon out there that keep popping up every generation that I'm really getting tired of seeing. For example, Machop. The most stereotypical fighting Pokemon possible who really isn't even that interesting. I have the same feelings about Geodude and Abra, though at least an Abra evolved into Alakazam can be a pretty good team member. I'm also getting tired of the same pokemon being near the beginning of the game, or at least similar pokemon...For instance, there's always a common bird Pokemon (Pidgey, HootHoot, Taillow, Starly) and a small relatively weak forest/rodent pokemon (Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon, Bidoof) near the beginning of the game. I wish they would switch it up and put different types of pokemon near the start. I know they want to get you started with Pokemon that can learn moves like Fly and Cut, but I didn't even keep a bird Pokemon on my team in Diamond because I was so sick of Starly cluttering by battle screen during the first part of the game...

Any thoughts? What Pokemon would you not mind being left out of the next generation?

tl;dr, anybody?

There are a lot of pokemon that people get tired of seeing, but that doesn't mean they should go away. Honestly I think the reason they include a bird pokemon early in the game is so you can teach Fly to a pokemon you're already familiar with (at least I personally hate modifying my team late in the game, I like to get them all together early and train them as I go).

Also a lot of pokemon are introduced just in time to take on a Gym Leader; for example, putting Dark Cave next to Violet City (or even Route 46, as it's accessible early in the game) in Johto gives the player a chance to raise a Rock-type to beat Falkner. And let's not forget the common Normal-types usually end up some of the best HM slaves in the game (lol).

Far as early-game variety goes, yeah, I have some complaints too. I mean really, where are the low-level Electric and Fire-types? Buizel was definitely a step in the right direction of making Water-types more accessible, but I also don't get why Game Freak seems so shy about giving STAB moves to low-level pokemon. Shinx for example, doesn't get a single STAB move (Spark) until after it evolves... seriously, wtf?

Heh, think I kinda went off-topic there. But I do get what you're saying; once you have everything you need on your team, the Rattata and Pidgey clones are just a pain in the ass to look at. I feel even worse about Zubat and friends because I never even use them; they're just there. And what I really, really can't stand is the Dragonite clones. Tyranitar was cool because he at least wasn't a Dragon-type, so I felt some good variety there, but I feel like Game Freak took one step forward and then two steps back when it came to Salamence and Garchomp. (I'll probably get bashed like heck for saying this.)

Also, Tentacool. >_o

zubat, geodude, tentacool, the usual. Staryu gets kinda annoying too.

I sometimes think on the only person to like Zubat, Geodude, and Tentacool. ;_; Some more variety in cave and ocean areas would certainly be nice, though...

the generic bird and mammals (even though my favorite is one) and Zubat (even though crobat is pretty awesome)

But god, would it really kill them to dunno, throw some variety in there? Hey, why /not/ have a Houndour one of the first pokemon you see? Or something like that, you know?

I like Zubat and Tentacool only because they evolve into cool Pokemon with clever stat distributions.

I kind of wish that they'd break with the fossil tradition. The fact that they're always Rock-type leads to unoriginality, and with the exception of Aerodactyl and possibly Cradily and Rampardos, they tend to be not all that great.

Magikarp looks kinda funny. I just can't believe I caught a Lv.5 Gyarados and I always get Lv.30 Magikarps in Emerald. It rarely happens in my Diamond, though

I'm starting to get bored of the same type of starters. Fire, Grass, Water. Perhaps they can change it up and be something like Ice, Thunder, Dark and not have to be weak in a triangle format.

Agreed.
Or maybe they could do something like what they did with Pokemon Yellow. Starting with Pikachu would be cool in Sinnoh.

Zubat, Geodude, Tentacool, Magikarp, Machop, Goldeen, Marill and Abra all need to be out of the wild VDex for Generation V and replaced with new counterparts - and put into the National Dex for post-game completism. And Pokemon found in caves/surfing need to be diversified in general, period.

My criterion, by the way, was that a Pokemon should be retired from the Wild early-game if it's appeared as such for more than two generations in a row. I think most people are pretty sick of these 8 Pokemon and their evolutions.
