I was just about to head out to pick my little brother up from school when this news broke. Needless to say, I now feel like I've had a match with Mike Tyson xD.

That's usually the way. In fact, I think XY was the first time we were shown anything.
 
Nintendo really doesn't know how to hype things. One month before the E3 and they suddenly reveal the remakes on YouTube like they mean nothing.

Still, I am so fucking excited omg.

Even better, don't show anything, i wanna see the glory of 3D Hoenn for the first time as it bursts through my eyes and i start seeing a double rainbow of awesomeness.

Maybe this is just me really wanting sequels rather than remakes, but the line about exploring a new world in the video makes me think that, at the very least, there will be some pretty significant changes to the story compared to the original Ruby & Sapphire.
 
I was totally shocked by this announcement. I wasn't expecting any new main series games to come out this year and for R/S remakes, I was expecting them to come out next year, even though I wanted them earlier. Man, the box art looks so awesome and I'm so glad that they're keeping the worldwide releases. I'm so eager to see any new information we could get from CoroCoro and especially another trailer in the future showcasing Hoenn with 3DS graphics.

I think they showed off New Bark Town and following Pokemon when HGSS were "officially" revealed through Pokemon Sunday. But yeah, they usually don't show anything during the initial announcement.

Hopefully by CoroCoro and E3 we'll have some more to go on. The way the press releases and the announcement video were worded, and it may just be clever marketing here, but it does seem there's more to these games than meets the eye.

HGSS were announced on the official Japanese website during the week, but had that brief New Bark Town footage on the first Pokémon Sunday following the announcement.

Mega Sceptile and Mega Swampert would be absolutely amazing! Besides it's not fair that Blaziken would be the only Hoenn Starter with a Mega, while the other two get gypped.
 
"Explore a whole new world" makes me wonder if this will be a sequel, not a remake. Still, I am so excited! :D
