Pokérus Hits a Friend

One of my few acquaintences in real life who still plays the Pokemon games was discussing them with me today. He's loving Diamond, and was telling me about his team and all that.

He then asked me about Pokérus, which he has apparently picked up. I explained how rare it was and what good it was and all that, but then he told me something I did not expect.

He claims that he had Pokérus on his Sapphire already, and had it plugged into the GBA slot of his DS, but since he's yet to defeat the E4, no transfers have actually taken place.

He either hit the lottery twice, or the virus transferred. Any thoughts?

Just lucky. I actually know of someone that's had it in every game they've played since G/S at least once.
 
My Pokemon got it on Thursday. I'm not kidding. It was like, WHOAH!
I was very suprised.
 
PokeRus sure does seem to be popping up everywhere. o_o Or maybe it's just because everyone is talking about it since they can trade and pass it on? I got a Chimchar off the GTS that had it. Nice surprise. n_n
 
I got a Mime Jr. with PokeRus over the GTS. I didn't even notice it until looking over it's status a few days later.

The PokeRus does seem to be more common over GTS.
 
I just got a Chimchar with the Pokerus as well...I never encountered it on the Japanese version...not from the GTS anyway.
 
I got Pokerus in my Japanese game. It was horrible tho, because I traded the Pokemon with it over the GTS before it could infect my other Pokemon D=
 
Poor wording in my previous post.

I meant to say that the odds seem better of someone getting a Pokemon with the PokeRus traded to them through the GTS, not actually from the GTS itself.

I just thought of something, does the PokeRus spread to eggs, or does one have to carry the hatched Pokemon around for it to get infected?
 
People could be giving them away in the GTS after infecting them just for the hell of it, or to see how fast it spreads. Just like the Magikarp thingy organized in Japan.

Or it could be just luck that you all obtained it so easily via GTS.

It could be within the GTS itself (maybe infecting all Pkmn of same species/etc showed as a result of your request if one of the results already had the virus?), but we don't have any proof of it, and probably won't.

Getting them more often on GTS could be explained by all these reasons, which we cannot control. And we don't know how the GTS server exactly works, just like a server side script on a webpage.

I got pokerus on my shiny Golbat yesterday, and I'm here to say it definitely spreads to eggs. I have two Eevee eggs that both have it now in my party. I have to ask though, I've been looking up this Pokerus stuff and I've encountered two schools of thought:

1) the effects of Pokerus stay with an affected pokemon even after the virus is gone, and
2) Well, that they don't do ^that^

So do they or don't they?

i remeber reading some where that it's effects stay with the pokemon. i also recieved a pokemon through the gts with the pokerus. a finneon but i didnt realize it until i evolved it into a luminioen.
 
K, I just made like 50 pokemon eggs, and they all got infected by the Pokerus the rest of my party was carrying. So my theory about the GTS is that people are hatching little pokelings by running around with them, maybe getting in a few battles, and the Pokerus is spreading to those eggs, and the babies are going straight to market with it.
 
I obtained the Pokerus for the first time ever on Pearl. I traded on the GTS--it was a pretty awesome trade. He had a shiny Drifloon infected with Pokerus and all he wanted was a Drifblim. I traded, figuring that the odds of getting a shiny pokemon with pokerus on the GTS, both at the same time, was pretty low.

Was I lucky, or anyone gotten an even better trade?
 
I didn't trade for it, but my shiny Golbat was the first one infected on my Diamond game (also the first time I've ever gotten it). I thought the odds were pretty slim as well.
 
How can you tell if your pokemon has Pokerus, aside from the nurse telling you? Is there a symbol on the status screen? Cause I have a Plusle from Sapphire with a yellow and red smiley face...
 
This has been explained several times (probably in this thread; if not in others). The smiley face means your pokemon WAS infected with Pokerus but no longer is. It doesn't reap the benefits of the virus anymore and it is not contagious. For all intents and purposes, Pokerus is gone from that pokemon.

If your pokemon is actively infected, a purple oblong will say 'Pokerus' on it. Or an abbreviated form of the name, maybe. I don't remember at the moment.
