OK, so we have room for three main characters.

There are now three main Pokemon competitions.

Snip out Brock, and you have a cast that can completely share the limelight with each other in a fitting way.

I know it's futile, but I might actually get back into the anime if Gen V was Ash for Battles, Gen V Girl for Pokéthlon, and Gen V Boy for Pokémon Contests.

But I have a feeling fat chance of that.

Thoughts on how the third Pokémon competition will affect the anime?

If Ash stays:

Ash - Gyms
Soul - Pokéthlon
New guy - Contests

If Ash doesn't stay:

New guy - Gyms
Soul - Pokéthlon
New girl - Contests

DUMP BROCK ._.!

There will be a filler about it and that's it. It's not girly enough for the main girl to specialize it it, so there's no way the main girl would be doing this even if it was added. But I doubt the anime would even do three competitions.

I really don't think that It will be a main thing in gen 5 but there might be a filler.

As for the line-up:
The same as always, Ash will do battles, New Girl contests and Brock will in the background doing nothing besides a few episodes centered around him. I really don't think that the way the anime does things will change, but they can pull off a surprise.

Yeah I can't see the Pokethlon thing as a main competition unless the Gen V games have it.

If they do incorporate it I'd say it all depends on the new character's personalities and how the anime portrays this competitions. So I can't really give out an opinion.

Hopefully if they make a big deal out of it, the main characters will all do it, or only some of them. It'd be so artificial to have one character for each task. If they do make a dedicated character for it, they'd probably have Brock do it. The generation V male would be a candidate as a Brock replacement and Pokéthlon focuser, except for the fact that he won't exist for a while. Also the HGSS male would be a candidate, if it weren't for his similarities to Jimmy. The female is pretty much out of the question, as there's not much of a reason to ditch Dawn.

Dawn could give it a shot IF they make a HGSS season. Other than that, she's just going to be a coordinater like usual.

Lol, I never really thought of it like that. We keep wanting to see some kind of balance, but it actually looks pretty stupid when you think about it. What're the chances that you have 3 characters who simply come together through divided interests, and every town seems to be conveniently mapped out in a fashion that allows them to stay a group?

That being said, there may be such a thing as too much Ash.

Still, I don't think it's much of a big deal overall.

Wich could be a good option if they return to Jouto. Cause seriously, Jouto having two Grand Festivals a year? The timeline is messed up enough, we don't need it to go any further.

Kojiro could do it O_O

But jokes about a character who's likely to do nothing ever aside (¬_¬) I'd like to think that rather than ditch Takeshi, they'd let him do it. If they make a big thing of it. Which they possibly won't and it'll be just lke Pokeringer, Satoshi involved and all.

I honestly don't think they'll make a WHOLE SIDEQUEST about it, just a few filler episodes like the Pingpong one, that's it. In the games, you're controlling the pokemon for racing and..jumping. The trainers could always direct the pokemon during the racing and tell them where to jump, but it'd be annoying hearing "gogogogo!lolurgettincloser!JUMPTHARS!" over and over again. It could be sorta like the olympics seeing how Pokethlon has mutiple mini-games, but again like I said earlier, it'd be a one-time only thing.

If it's a one-time event, I can see everyone participating, including Takeshi and TRio. Also, I can see Jun or someone joining if it's like the PingPong event.

3-Episode arc. Pikachu, Piplup, or whatever main Pokemon at the time compete in it. Maybe win a medal. Get a prize for coming in 1st, second, etc. Bada-bing.

Yeah, I don't really see a third coordinator girl. The writers knew they were pushing it when they made Dawn a coordinator, nobody would care if we get a third one.

This way the girl can do a new quest, and that way there will be less complaining about every girl being a coordinator.

Also...Brock might finally leave again. I think its really time to see Brock swapped out for someone new.

Ugh... Not this bullshit again...

Would there really be a need for a third competition? Is that all Pokémon are good for? Competitions and trinket quests?

Is there something wrong with just caring for them?

Yeah, because "triathlon" will totally appeal more to girls than Contests
I can see it being in some random episodes... but to make it the plot? no... the plot is fine as Gyms/Contests
Also, there's no need to add a third star/plot, we have one "for boys" and one "for girls"... what the third one will be for?
Sure the sidekicks can get something to do, so the possible new sidekick might do the racing thing once in a while... but it wouldn't be as important as Gyms/Contests
And a boy won't do Contests, either Dawn stay or the new girl will do them
