Now then I am sure of it but others may disagree. I will post the brief we got from Pokemon Sunday:
-4 contestants with a team of 3.
-Medals.
-Your character must have changed clothes. Look at how his head is black now.

Now then this blurb came today:
The Pokethlon comes with five different courses, each based on the speed, power, technique, stamina, and jump stats. Each course is made up of three races.
So then each course(contest) is based on each stat. With 3 different races. Surely this can't be coincidence?

I hope contests are ditched for this. I was never a fan of them, finding they were unpredictable, difficult and unfair in parts, though that may have been me. Something with a bit more to it such as this Pokethlon would do me fine.

For the last time, THEY AREN'T JUST RACES. :/ Even though they do have some sorta stats of their own, they don't require move usage in anyway.

Also, Pokethlon doesn't have to replace Contests, they could include both y'know. >>

Agreed. Sinnoh contest is most annoying...why do they added dancing part anyway?

Back on topic-I felt Contests will be in because May went to Johto for contests....I don't know why they chose Johto to be the place unless it like a hint for confirming the contests to be in game

The blurb came from pokebeach don't bitch to me about it. And your stars could come from your regular stats and all.

I believe the "ribbon" slot seen in some preview images being for these medals.

I could easily see Ash, Brock and whatshername competing in the Pokethlon in the after-Sinnoh-before-Gen-5 fillers in Johto. It'd be an ice change of pace.

I don't want Contests replaced with these, because I don't see any reason to, since it's not like programming in Contests will be hard work. Also, Contests are also affected by what moves your Pokemon has, while the Pokethlon seems to be just about user reflexes.

Working similar is not the same thing as being a replacement. If that were true, there are tons of Pokemon with similar move combinations or stats that could just as easily be a replacement and see the old Pokemon deleted forever - bye bye Torchic, we have Chimchar now.

Every reason you used could just as easily be used to justify Pokethlon as a companion and contemporary to contests, rather than a replacement, btw. Also, just because you don't like a feature doesn't mean anybody else does or it should be removed from the games - which I keep on saying, but nobody seems to ever listen to this perfectly sound argument because they all seem to be selfish and just simply can't stand the CONCEPT OF SOMETHING OPTIONAL THEY DON'T LIKE BEING LOCATED ANYWHERE IN THE GAME. I thought the Underground was totally pointless in PPT, but you don't see me having a temper-tantrum at the idea of it returning in Generation V and THEY were mostly required to get Spiritomb!

I think battles, contests, and the Pokethlon should all remain in the series as main parts. Why? Because in real life, animals are most often competing each other in breeding shows/performance shows like Pokemon Contests, or in races like in the Pokethlon. It'd be stupid to get rid of either one of them, when that's how we treat animals in real life, and thus they're good venues for Pokemon competitions that don't involve cuddly creatures beating the crap out of each other.

Also, Feebas evolving into Milotic via being trained to run fast would just be stupid.

Anime-style contests are already confirmed to be in Johto, but then again they weren't in FR/LG but were in the anime, so they might not be in HGSS.

I did not bash contests in anyway Zeta. I personally like them but if they have to go if they do go whatever.

What was really weird was that people TALKED about Contests being in Johto in FRLG, but there was nowhere to do them. Personally I think the main issue was them wanting not to program in the berry-growing system to have a sustainable population of berries, along with wanting to give people to go back to Hoenn for Emerald.

My post was mostly directed as a general "everyone who irrationally wants Contests deleted" than you specifically.

Ah okay. I'm just thinking based on things. It does seem to look like there isn't any contest hall at all but possibly contests are in Kanto. But if both co-exist then fine with me. Just where is the stat page for contests? Explain that one.

I kind of think the best thing would be to just include the Pokethlon and Pokemon Contests in one building in the future and call the building the "Pokemon Stadium/Arena/Bowl" from now on for the sake of convince.

The only thing I don't like about Contests are the cooking minigames, which is the only reason I don't play them as much as I'd like. Kind of feel like they don't work right. I'd rather just buy Pokeblocks and Pokefins or feed the Pokemon berries directly, and there should be a way to respec Pokemon after you've fed them - like a luster deleter.

They just need to revamp contests in the games yet again to make them more entertaining. You'd think 7 years of exposure for them in the anime would be enough to let GameFreak know how to alter them.

I don't want it to replace contests, they would be awsome if they were done like the anime (or at least like in Ruby and Sapphire).

I would love to see Brock doing these in the "Sinnoh Battle Frontier in Johto" that we probably will have. His goal it too quiet and subtle.

Contests became something important in the anime, they're here to stay and the games will keep them
Both in games and anime (especially the anime) the Contests are supposed to help appeal more to girls too and not just boys... a racing minigame isn't nearly as girly as Contests, so both in game and anime it just won't work as a "replacement" for Contests
Also, one scene clearly showed a Contest ribbon symbol on the Pokémon's status screen which obviously mean HGSS have Contests (FRLG didn't have Contests so they didn't include such an option even if one could get a ribbon-holding Poké from RSE...)

But there is a lack of stats for contests move have you forgotten?

There's no proof that's there a lack of contest moves stats or if they are included.

It could be like RSE, where all of the contest information is under the ribbon button or something like that.

I could see Contests being excluded in HGSS, but I do think every main game will retain them in some form, even for just one contest hall.

As for the anime, Contests *probably* won't be around forever. Sure, they've been around for 7 years, but eventually I can see them phased out for a new sidequest the writers would rather advertise.

HGSS are the main games for the next year or two or who knows how much time until next gen

Gyms are... Contests in the anime are now as important as Gyms... actually most of the show now is Gyms+Contests rather than just Gyms

Stop repeating that ridiculous sentence... I already replied to you about this 32532 times and you still didn't give me a good answer: what can be even more girly than Contests? and why would they replace Contests at all when it works great as a way to both appeal to girls and still keep the battles?

There's no logic at all in believing Contests aren't going to stay, it's totally ridiculous
