Quick Question: Is it okay to double post here?

Summery:
This is the story of a boy named Kody, who lives on the island paradise of Poketopia. But soon, the peaceful utopia is threatened by an ex-CIPHER group, Team PHEONIX, who have thier own plans for thier scientifically enhanced Pokemon. It is up to Kody to stop them, along side a Sinnoh Trainer and an Orre scientist. But will he rise up to the challenge? Or will the Shadows conquer all. It's an epic struggle for the future of the Pokemon world in this story.

Pokétopia: Rise of Team PHENYX

Ch. 1:

The match was a close one. The challenger had only one Pokémon left, while the opposing had two, though one, a Nuzleaf, was pretty banged up. That gave the challenger a little hope, but the opposing Breloom was fresh from the Pokéball. The crowd around the battle was going wild. The red corner was a very popular trainer, but the blue corner challenger was stronger than expected.
Holding his breath, the challenger sent out his last Pokémon. The crowd cheered even loader as the new contestant, a Charmeleon, reared it’s head and roared. The Breloom was a little intimidated by the fire-type, but put on a fighting face. The Charmeleon moved first, using a small Ember move on the Nuzleaf. That proved too much for the grass-type, and it fainted.
The Breloom moved next, charging towards the foe for a Headbutt Attack. Charmeleon was sent sprawling, but it quickly recovered. Annoyed, it Growled. The Breloom became uneasy, but went for a Mach Punch. Before that could land, the Charmeleon breathed out flames, creating a Fire Spin. The Breloom was sucked up by the fire tornado. It struggled against it, then using it’s powerful legs it pushed off the ground and jumped out of the weakening tornado.
It didn’t escape unscathed, however. Fire Spin had inflicted a burn on it. Wincing from the pain, the Breloom didn’t see Charmeleon prepare another attack. It used Flamethrower, toasting the unsuspecting mushroom black and causing it to faint.
The Challenger had won easily. The crowd cheered, chanting the red corner’s name over and over.
“Ko-dee! Ko-dee! Kod-”

“-ee! Kodee!” someone was shaking him awake. “Wake up, for Pete’s sake!”
Kody moaned, keeping his eyes sealed shut. Why would someone wake him up from such a wonderful dream?
“Kody,” the someone said annoyed. “Wake up or you’ll be fired!”
Kody jumped awake, looking around bewildered and confused. He was just at a coliseum. How did he end up in a store? His mother and boss stared angrily at him, then turned to a customer in front of the cash register.
“I apologize, ma’am,” she said, “what can I help you with?”
Kody yawned and stretched, his memory slowly coming back to him. He was at work in his mother’s souvenir shop. He was working the register today, yet the store wasn’t too busy, so he had sat down to rest a moment and apparently he had dozed off. He looked to the base of the chair where a small Pokémon was napping. Kody nudged the Riolu gently with his shoe. It slowly awoke, then looked up at Kody.
“Hey, Toru,” Kody said to it. “You were supposed to keep me awake.”
“Rrrrrrioyyychuuu!” Toru apologized.
Kody ’s mother, Sharon, finished helping the customer then turned back to scold her son.
“We may live in Poketopia,” she began, “but that doesn’t give you the right to stay up all night to watching or battling in the Coliseums. You have other responsibilities, such as school and work. That customer was standing there for five minutes trying to wake you up!”
“I’m sorry,” Kody began,” but the only Coliseums I can go to are at night. Sunny Park and the Waterfall and others are only open during the day when I have school or work.”
“Life doesn’t revolve around battling, Kody. Besides, there’s always the Sunset Col-,”
“I can’t use my own Pokémon there, though!”
“Listen: no more late-night battles from now on. And no more falling asleep at work, okay, hijo?”
“But-,”
“Ah! No buts about it. Now I need you to go in the back and bring out some more of these Pokétopia badges. They fly right off the shelves!” She handed him a slip of paper with numbers on it.
Kody gave up, knowing he had lost. Toru followed him into the back room where shipments of all kinds of souvenirs were stacked and stored until they were unpackaged and brought out front. Boxes stood upon boxes on strong shelving units that reached high to the ceiling.
“This isn’t fair!” Kody sighed. “‘No late-night battles’. What does she think I am, a toddler?”
“Rrrrroiyyyaaaahrrroi,” Toru said.
“Well, yes I did fall asleep,” Kody admitted sheepishly, “but that was a one time thing.”
“Rrrrrroiyyyyyah.”
“Okay, maybe I’ve fallen asleep once or twice...”
“Rrrrroiyyyyah...”
“Three or...”
“Rrrroiyahrrroi.”
“Five times is all... But I won’t do it again.”
“Rrrroichuuuuu Roiyyya.”
“You’re not helping...” Kody looked back at the slip that held random numbers. 775-038-946-26. It was more like an address telling him where the stocked item was in the back room. These particular items he was looking for was located at the far back wall close to the shipment doors. He looked back up to check where he was at now. 775-037-803-55, he needed to go farther back.
“This place gives me the creeps,” He shivered, walking on. It was always cold here, too, he might add.
“Rrrr-rrr,” Toru agreed, trilling his cry.
“I-,” Kody was about to say, but then there was a load crash nearby. Kody paused, more than a little startled, then ran off towards the source of the sound. Before he could turn the corner, a shadowy figure nearly balled him over. The intruder was as surprised as Kody was, but quickly recovered and pushed the boy aside, running for the emergency fire-exit.
“Hey! Stop right there!” Kody yelled after him. Or her. Whatever it was, it was getting away. Kody took off after it without much thought. Perhaps he should have looked for help, but Kody tended to take matters into his own matters.
The thief was quick. Kody had a hard time keeping up with him as they ran through a maze of storage units and boxes. All the time he couldn’t get a good look at the intruder: he was clothed in black, shadowed by a big hat, and the lighting there never was very good.
He rounded a corner just as the thief tipped over a large box of stuffed Pokémon. The toys went all over, burying Kody and Toru in their overflow. When they managed to dig their way out, there was no sign of the shadowy thief.
“Shoot!” Kody exclaimed. “Dang trickster! I almost had him.”
Toru popped his head out from the wreckage, knocking into an small object and sending it skidding across the floor where it bumped Kody ‘s shoe. He reached down and scooped it off the ground. It was an oval black badge with elongated ‘P’ and ‘H’ on it.
“Who was that anyway?”Kody stared off down the aisle.
#*****
“What?!” Sharon exclaimed when Kody explained what had happened and why he didn’t bring a box of badges with him.
“I tried to catch him, but then he did that trick...”
“What did he take? And what did he look like?”
“I couldn’t see that well,” Kody admitted.
Sharon sighed. “What a day! First, our last shipment didn’t make it and now this. I’d better send Charlie to clean up the mess and get your father. Watch the shop while I’m gone, but don’t doze off!”
“Yes, ma’am!” Kody saluted.
Sharon left Kody in the now empty shop. Business tended to slow down when schools across the world started, but Poketopia nevertheless was always busy. Just not the souvenir shops. Kody sat back and remembered how hard his family had worked to get where they were now. They had lived back in Johto when he was a toddler, then they moved to Hoenn, and now here. The Carter Family owned and worked many stores across those regions, but none where as successful as the Poketopia one. All of Kody ‘s brothers and sisters had worked here, and finally so does he, but he doesn’t necessarily enjoy it. What he really wants to do is move into a battling career. He wants to be a Coliseum Leader, or at least one of its trainers. Going into business had never interested him.
What he want above all is to defeat the Poketopia Master, win the crown, and become the Champion.
His mother, however, wants otherwise. She sometimes enjoyed watching battles, but she believed battling careers to be fruitless. Trainers, after all, made very little money and often went hungry. Sharon never wanted this for her children, so she discouraged them from becoming one of them. It had worked for her first three, then there was Erika. Erika was fascinated by Pokémon, as many are, and she longed to raise the best she could. She grew bored with her life, then ran off on a Trainer Journey when they were living in Johto. Word is that she’s a pretty powerful trainer now.
It was her and the battling utopia they lived in that inspired Kody. Now he wants to become a trainer, but his own mother stands in the way. She might have failed with Erika, but she was determined not to fail with Kody.
Kody sighed again, looking out the wide window opposite of him.
“Rrrrrrrigh?” Riolu cocked his head.
Kody looked back at the little guy. He had been a gift from his father to be his friend and guardian, to make sure Kody wouldn’t get into trouble. Kody had hatched it himself from a blue speckled egg, and had become quite close with him.
“I’m not going to fall asleep,” Kody assured him.
“Rrrrighkluuuuu,” Toru smiled.
Kody smiled back, then thoughtfully got into his black hip-bag, pulling out several Pokéballs. These were the party that he had earned and raised to a reasonable level. All were originally rentals but had been given to Kody for hard work and teamwork. He had a long way to go, he knew, but he had a great head start.
He singled them out: the first contained a Staravia he named Jack, who had great aerial attacks and speed. The next was a Luxio, named by the rental caretakers Sparx. Her Spark attack was very powerful, and had a special glow about her. Next to her gray Ultra-ball was a Bayleef named sheepishly Herbie, an excellent grass-type species. Next to his Green-colored Nest-ball, a Marshtomp who he named Skipper who loved to get dirty. The last was a Charmander who, for some reason, hasn’t evolved yet. His name was Echo, though Kody doesn’t know why.
All were good friends of his.
“One of these days,” he promised them. “We’ll amount to something great. Perhaps if we one day become Poketopia Champions, we’ll head for Hoenn or Sinnoh and challenge the League. Get out and see the world.”
“Rrrrigh?” Toru looked up at him.
“Of course you can come,” Kody smiled. “I couldn’t leave without you.”
“Rrrrrrrrigh-rrrroiy!” Toru cheered.

Kody ‘s father, Mark was agitated. He was in the security center trying to find out if the camera’s had caught any of the action in his store, but the security officers claimed that the cameras had been off-line.
“And why is that?” The large man tried to contain his anger. “Why was no one informed of this? Why weren’t there tighter security?”
“Sir,” one of the officers said, “we found the source of the problem minor. A Rattata had chewed through one of those circuits that fed through your cameras. We patched up the problem as soon as we could. They should be working properly.”
“Minor? Someone broke into my store and stole some merchandise while your stupid cameras were off-line!”
“Someone broke into your store?” Another said, astonished as if he had never heard it before.
“Why else do you think I would be here?”
The idiots looked at each other, confused. Had they gotten so comfortable in Pokétopia that they thought no crime would ever be committed?
One of the screens that showed what the security cameras were recording suddenly blacked out. The security officers jumped up, grabbing their gear, while one checked the computer carefully.
“It’s happening again,” he said. They were finally starting to be concerned.
“Mr. Carter,” the first officer said, “We will look into this as soon as we can. We’ll get someone to swing by and investigate the scene. But right now, our hands are tied.”
“What are you still here for?” Mark waved. He didn’t like this at all. His store getting robbed and the cameras blacking out seemed all too convenient to be a accident. Something was happening in Poketopia.
#*****
Sharon stormed back into the store, her face red with anger and effort.
“Mom!” Kody stood up from behind the front desk, “Any news?”
“Dad went and checked the security cameras,” she started, “but they said the cameras were off-line. Apparently, they thought it was too much effort to get off their butts and do something about it! Now they just say they’ll have someone swing by later to check it out! As if! If I could-,”
“The cameras weren’t working?” Kody interrupted before his mother could fume anymore.
“The officers said that a Rattata had chewed through the wiring. But I don’t thinks so. Camera’s gone off and a store gets robbed. Doesn’t sound right to me. Kody, we need to be more careful. From now on, you’re not allowed to go anywhere without permission or supervision.”
“WHAT?!”
“You heard me mister. We wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to you, so until this situation clears up you’ll be watched.”
“But Mom, I can take care of myself just fine!”
“I’m sure you can, but just to be safe.”
“My Pokémon can-,”
“Kody, criminals don’t always play by the rules.”
“But-but-,”
“But nothing! No late nights, and no leaving without permission. That’s it. End of conversation.”
“Arrrrghhhhhhh!” Kody slumped back into his chair.

Soon night fell upon Pokétopia like a heavy blanket. The moonless skies shone bright above the island, alive with stars, although the bright lights of the utopia snuffed out their light. Some could say Pokétopia was as bright at night as it was at day, but most say the night brought out a new kind of energy for restless Trainers.
Within an minutes, the Gateway Coliseum would be open to challengers. All ready tickets were going fast and people were gathering within in huge packs starving for some action. Trainers were preparing their Pokémon for the battles ahead.
Kody could see it all from his high apartment window. His longing to be there drove him nuts! How unfair was this! He absolutely had no freedom!
His restlessness wrestled against him.
She had said no late night battles, but how would she know if he snuck away? Sharon was working late at the store anyway, double checking security and stock, and he was home alone. Almost alone.
Toru was sound asleep, though.
He could sneak back before anyone knew.
*****
The final boat of the day pulled into the dock. They had met some troublesome weather that had delayed them, but they made it. The new arrivals would at least be able to se the beauty of Pokétopia at night anyway. What better sight to see when first setting foot on the Island than that?
A bed, one guest would argue. That guest was Kasandrah Griffon, a trainer fresh from Sinnoh.
Don’t get her wrong, though. She was overjoyed to finally make it here, but the voyage had worn her out. Kassy had found out, however, that she could easily get sea-sick. When the rough weather kicked in, she didn’t have too much fun.
“Land!” She celebrated when she stood on firm land once again. Her friend Amy giggled.
“Isn’t it great?” she smiled. “Pokétopia at last!”
“Yeah, great,” Kassy said sarcastically, “now let’s find a hotel room. I’m bushed.”
“Wait! Don’t you want to look around?”
“Loved to, but if you haven’t forgotten, I’ve been losing my guts.”
“That’s a shame,” someone behind them said. They turned around to see one of the sailors carrying one of their luggage bags. Kassy had unwittingly left one behind on the boat.
“I believe this is yours,” he nodded to Kassy.
Kassy took it and simply nodded back.
“What makes you say that?” Amy asked, embarrassed by her friend’s lack of manners.
“Well, I saw her carry her bag-,”
“No, I mean, why is it a shame?”
“Oh, well, Pokétopia is a wonderful place at night, and the Gateway Coliseum is about to start. It’s a great show. You should at least go see it before turning in tonight. But, you know, it’s your choice,” the sailor shrugged. He turned and walked away saying, “Enjoy your stay.”
“What was that about?” Kassy frowned.
“What’s your problem! He was pretty cute, you know!” Amy scolded.
“Whatever.”
“I guess you’re a little grumpy from the trip,” Amy sighed.
“Which is why we should find the nearest hotel so I can get some rest!”
“Oh, but the Coliseum! Can we go? P-lllllleeeeaaaasssssse?” Amy begged, tugging her sleeve.
“Stop it!” Kassy snapped, picking up her bag and walked away.
“Please, Please, Please, PLEASE?” Amy pursued.
“Stop!”
“P-L-E-A-S-E?”
“Fine! All right. But tomorrow when I’m going to sleep in late I’d better not hear any complaining!”
“Yes! Trust me, you won’t regret it! Pokétopian battles are legendary!”
“They’d better be...,” Kassy grumbled, but inside she was just as excited as Amy was.

“I don’t like this,” Quintin, Kody ‘s buddy, yawned. “I don’t like this one bit.”
“What’s the big deal?” Kody replied, putting on his gear and disguise.
“Well, I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that we’re disobeying our parents and sneaking into a Coliseum late at night without permission...”
“Relax, Quint,” Kody smiled. “No one is going to notice. There, how do I look?”
Quintin sighed for the umpteenth time that night. “It’s bad enough that you’re dragging me into this. Yeah, you look okay.”
“Nothing like my old self?”
“Sure.”
“Quint, I’m serious,” Kody stared hard back at him.
“I’m serious. We’re going to be in so much trouble!”
“How’s your thing coming along?”
“I’ve programmed you to be the fifth contestant,” Quintin answered, pointing to his laptop. “You’ll be up against some guy named... Darkos Willforce.”
“Ha! What a loser.”
“I’ve seen weirder. Anyway, he has a Ninjask, a Nuzleaf, a Mightyena, a Houndour, a Kadabra, and a Sneasel registered. All but two are dark-types. He favors using the Sneasel, for some reason. He gloats about it all the time.”
“So dark type, then,” Kody mused. Fighting types would be good to use, but I don’t have any of those. Jack would be good against two, Echo: 3, Skipper: 1. Herbie could hold out against a Mightyena and a Kadabra. Sparx ‘s could deal some damage, too...
“Your match will be in 20 minutes, dude,” Quintin said, breaking Kody ‘s thoughts.
“Okay. Thanks, Quintin. This means a lot to me.”
“Yeah, yeah. Don’t mention it,” Quintin closed his laptop, getting off the locker room bench. He nodded, “Good Luck,” then left Kody to prepare for the battle.

“Boy, how lucky were we,” Amy smiled, holding up two tickets. “We got the last ones!”
“All right!” Kasandrah cheered.
“Whoa, someone’s feeling better.” Amy pretended to be utterly shocked.
“Maybe I am,” Kasandrah frowned indignantly. “I’m not always grumpy, you know.”
“Just teasing. Come on! Let’s go!” Amy raced off with both tickets still in hand.
“Hey!” Kasandrah pursued her, pushing through a crowd of people to get into the Coliseum Viewing Building. Several times she almost lost sight of her impatient friend, but finally caught up with her at a ticket gate that led into the building.
“Hurry up, Slowpoke!” Amy waved.
“I’m coming all ready!”
“Tickets?” the ticket person asked blandly.
“Right here,” Amy presented the tickets.
The Ticket Person glanced at them, then waved to a Machop who hoisted up the gate. “Room number 13.”
“Wh-,” Kasandrah began to ask.
“Go to the right, up the stairs, and it’s the third room down.”
“O-K.... Thanks, I guess,” Kasandrah frowned. “Let’s go, Amy.”
They followed the man’s instructions and made it into their room. This box had a few rows of seats but none of them were occupied. Everyone was lined up against the window trying to see the battle that was just beginning. The two girls pushed their way up to the window to see the action.
The opponents were throwing out their first Pokémon. The Red Corner trainer, a little girl that looked younger that Amy, sent out a Pachirisu, while the Blue Corner, a teenage boy, sent out a Kricketune.
“Oh, I forgot to get a program list,” Amy sighed. “I wish I knew who was battling.”
“That’s simple,” A tall, dark-skinned girl with pink hair interrupted. She smiled at them and pointed to the teenager. “That’s Randy the Music Artist. He uses Song-making Pokémon like Kricketune, Chatot, Chingling, Chimecho, Loudred, Jigglypuff, etc.”
Then she pointed to the little girl:
“That’s Sophia the ‘Adorable’. She uses any cute Pokémon she can get.”
“Thank you,” Amy smiled.
“No problem.”
Now the Pokémon began to fight. The Pachirisu started with a blue Spark attack, racing towards the Kricketune and tackling it while sparking. The Kricketune raised its sword-like arms and braced itself against the attack. He thrust them out, knocking the little squirrel away. He swung them again, performing a False-swipe attack.
The brave Pachirisu was hurt, but picked itself back up, Growl-ing. It made the Kricketune uneasy, and caught off-guard it was hit by a Tail-Whip attack. Enraged, it struck back with Fury Cutter.
Now the Pachirisu was facing a little trouble, but it bounced back. Literally. It went for another Spark attack, jumping up into the air and landing it on the foe. Kricketune faced the trouble now.
Kricketune struck again with Fury Cutter.
Pachirisu went down, hit by an intense blow. A Critical Hit.
But it got back up!
Bruised and sore, the strong little squirrel went for another attack: Tackle.
Kricketune dodged it. It’s trainer shouted out a command: Sing! The insect raised it’s arm’s, crossing them as if they were a fiddle and began to play a song. Pachirisu never expected this. It watched amazed, lulled by the soothing music. It’s eyes became droopy, and soon it fell asleep.
There was a moan of dismay in throughout the audience. The poor Pachirisu had been a favorite of the crowd. To see it go down like this after hanging on like that...
The Kricketune stopped playing the music. It cried in victory as if it had all ready won. It gloated and cheered, holding off the final blow and taking in this moment of almost-victory.
It didn’t notice Pachirisu wake up. The trainer had supplied it with a special berry that prevented it from sleeping. Now, it snuck up behind its opponent, cheeks sparking, and unleashed a Thunder-shock.
Taken by complete surprise, the Kricketune couldn’t even react and inevitably fainted.
Pachirisu had won.
“Wow,” Kasandrah was impressed, “that was one tough Pachirisu.”
“Sophia’s pride and joy,” the pink-haired lady nodded.
Randy sent out his next Pokémon, a Loudred, as Sophia recalled her own. Concentrating hard, she decided on her next: a Beautifly. Then the next round began.
#*****
Kody was alone in the locker room, slipping his new fingerless-gloves on. so he thought.
“Pssst!” someone hissed at him.
Kody jumped. “Who’s there?”
“Shhh! Be quiet!” the voice hissed again. Kody looked around and saw a shadowy figure hiding in the dark corner of the room.
“Who are you?” Kody demanded, purposefully louder.
“I said SHUSH! Now, are you Jacob Bradley?”
“Yeah...,” Kody said carefully, remembering the fake name Quintin had given him for the match. “And, again, who are you?”
“You’re next opponent,” the stranger said simply.
Kody almost didn’t say anything, but quickly remembered that Trainers weren’t suppose to know who their up against. “How do-,”
“That’s not important right now,” Darkos replied quickly.
“What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to see if you wanted to make our match a little more... interesting.”
Kody narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “What do you mean?”
Darkos walked more into the light, revealing a smile on his lips. “Perhaps we could lay a few... bets?”
“Bets?” Kody frowned, liking the situation lesser by the second. “I don’t think so.” He began gathering his stuff up and packing it in his bag.
“Hold on, Growlithe,” Darkos moved forward to stop him.
“Not interested, dude,” Kody waved him off. “Hey!”
Darkos swooped up one of Kody ‘s Pokéballs. It was Herbie ’s.
“Give him back!” Kody reached out to snatch him back, but Darkos was very tall and easily kept it out of the boy’s reach.
“Ah, ah, ahh!” Darkos pulled on a sly face, teasing Kody ‘s reach. “Perhaps I’ll give it back if you listen to my proposition.”
Kody stopped bouncing and glared at him.
“Good. Here’s the deal: If I win our little match today...” he turned and sauntered towards the lockers, “...you will give me one of your Pokémon. One of my choosing. If you win, which I highly doubt that you will, I will give you an exclusive prize Pokémon, one that will be very powerful. Have we an accord?”
“What!? No way!”
Darkos tossed the ball up and caught it in his hand again, reminding Kody of his condition.
Kody gritted his teeth.
“Ha, ha, ha!” the evil man laughed. “You’re not afraid of losing, are you?”
“I’m not afraid of anything, especially your cruel taunts! I’ll take your bet, but you’re going to be sorry!” Kody seethed at the dark man.
Darkos smiled and held out Herbie ‘s ball. Kody snatched it out of his hand disgruntled and disgusted. He grabbed his things and left the locker room to the Dark Trainer.
“Win or lose,” Darkos said to himself once the boy disappeared, “I won’t be sorry, boy.”
*****
Kasandrah had enjoyed the first match. Even though Sophia won the first round with the Pachirisu, Randy beat her Beautify and Jigglypuff with the Loudred. Her weary Pachirisu took down the Loudred, but was too tired to fend off Randy’s Chatot. In the end, Randy had won.
“That was exciting!” Amy cheered. “Who’s up next?”
The pink haired girl smiled. “I think it’s Herb Girl Yasmine up against Metal Master Marshall.”
“What’s with the weird titles?” Kasandrah frowned.
The girl smiled wider sheepishly. “They can be a little eccentric, can’t they?”
“Ch-yeah,” Kasandrah agreed. The trainers left the stage now, and they now waited for the new combatants to emerge.
The pink haired lady turned to the girls, sparking up a conversation to pass the time.
“By the way,” she started, “my name is Roze. You guys must be new here.”
“Yeah, we’ve just arrived from Sinnoh,” Amy answered. “My name is Amy and this is Kassy.”
“Kasandrah,” Kasandrah corrected her friend.
“Nice to meet you guys. I’m from Hoenn. I got here maybe a few months back, looking for adventure. You like Pokétopia so far?”
“Yeah, sure do!” Amy cheered enthusiastically.
“I can’t wait to see more,” Kasandrah agreed.
“How about after the Coliseum’s done I show you around a bit?” Roze asked.
“That sound great!” Amy smiled. “Thanks!”
“Actually,” Kasandrah frowned. Amy slumped. Kasandrah ignored her and went on, “I am pretty bushed. I’d like to get some rest after this.”
“Oh, well I can escort you to the finest Hotel in Pokétopia. How’s that?”
Kasandrah thought on it, then nodded, “I could go for that.”
“Then tomorrow I can show you around,” Roze concluded.
“O.K.!” Amy nodded.
“Here they come!” Kasandrah pointed out the window.
#*****
Kody watched the next match with little interest. It wasn’t a particularly good match since the Herb Lady only had grass Pokémon to use against steel-type, which isn’t very effective. Yet that wasn’t why Kody was distant. He had a lot on his mind.
If I lose my match, he thought, then he’ll take one of my Pokémon. What was I thinking!? It wasn’t that he wanted the Pokémon Darkos offered him, it was the fact that he had called Kody a cowered that had fired his soul. The boy had a little too much pride, and was reckless, needless to say.
Calm down, he tried to relax, There’s no reason to worry because I won’t lose. I show that guy! I haven’t been defeated yet. In fact, two more wins and I can go up against the Coliseum Leader!
But there was always a first, his conscience would argue. Something about that Darkos wasn’t quite right.
Kody was roused out of his thoughts by a sudden cheer from the crowd. The Herb lady’s Breloom had the upper hand against the foe’s Lairon and just made it faint. The cheering, however, dropped when the Metal Master sent out a Skarmory. The Green Corner stood little chance now.
The Breloom looked like it wanted to turn and run, but after some encouragement from its trainer, it launched another attack: Mach Punch.
The move hit the Skarmory square in the chest, but it waved the assault off and Pecked back as if the foe was a mere tick. Peck was super-effective to the dual type Breloom, and sent it flying. Wincing, he stood back up and launched another attack: Sky-uppercut.
Again, no effect.
Breloom looked frustrated, and launched a series of attacks at the steel bird. None seemed to have any effect on the Skarmory. In fact, it yawned out of boredom.
Tired of the pesky foe, the Skarmory finally launched its own attack: Brave Bird.
The Breloom stood no chance. The incredible blow knocked it cold.
Metal Master Marshall won the match easily.
Kody was up next.
*****

“Good Evening, Pokétopians!” the announcer’s voice rang throughout the viewer boxes. Everyone stopped their conversations to cheer.
“The third match of the day is about to commence. Our contestants for this match: Novice Trainer Jacob Bradley versus Dark Trainer Darkos Willforce. The Fourth Match Contestants: Electric Expert Logan Davis against Pokéball Collector Ron Monroe! Here come the combatants now!”
“Oh,” Amy was surprised. “I didn’t know they did that.”
“You guys just missed the announcements before,” Roze explained.
Kasandrah ignored their conversation and watched as Jacob and Darkos entered the field. She noticed, even from her high spot, how darkly Jacob glared at Darkos, who avoided eye-contact and waved at the unseen fans as if he were a celebrity. She watched on, confused, as they stopped at their respected places on the stage. She, nor anyone else, could hear the short dialogue that went on between the two.
“Hope you’ve chosen wisely,” Darkos taunted, referring to the rule that Trainers could chose only 3 out of their 6 Pokémon. “You know what’s on the line.”
“You’re going to regret messing with me,” Kody growled.
Back up in the boxes, the announcer went on to explain:
“Jacob Bradley has quite a few considerable wins under his belt. In fact, he hasn’t lost a match yet, but will that change tonight when he battles Darkos Willforce? The Dark Trainer recently arrived here, but has climbed this far with ease. Whoever wins this match will go to the semi-finals tomorrow evening.”
Kody and Darkos could hear the announcer’s voice echoing down from the audience’s building. The Dark Trainer smirked.
“Sounds like we have plenty of pressure.”
“Shut-up! Let’s battle already!” Jacob/Kody pulled out his first ball.
“Such fire!” Darkos pulled out his own. “We’d be lucky if you joined us.”
“We?” Kody was caught off guard.
Darkos only smiled and released his first Pokémon. The Nuzleaf raised it’s woody fists and cried out to the crowd.
Kody got over his confusion and sent out his own. Jack stretched his wings and screeched. The first round was in his favor.
“The Pokémon appear!” called the announcer.
“Rock the Coliseum!” Kody encouraged his Staravia.
“This will be interesting,” Darkos smirked.
“From the Blue Corner,” the announcer went on, “Nuzleaf. From the Red Corner: Staravia. Red corner advantage.”
“Now the announcer talks,” Kasandrah rolled her eyes.
“This match is a big deal,” Roze explained. “Both Trainers shown huge talent, and one will go to the Semi-finals.”
“So I hear.”
“That’s a gorgeous Staravia,” Amy commented.
“I-,” Kasandrah began, but the announcer’s voice cut her off.
“The stage is set and the curtain is open, the Blue Corner attacks first.”
The Nuzleaf ran up to Jack and gave him a swift attack with Fake Out. It didn’t do much damage, but caused Jack to flinch. Nuzleaf took that opportunity to launch a Faint Attack. Jack shook it off.
“Focus, Jack!” Kody encouraged from the sidelines. “Counter with Fly!”
Jack screamed in agreement then took wing, swooping down at the Nuzleaf and grabbing it with his sharp talons. Nuzleaf struggled to get free, but Jack’s strong feet held him tight, and together they Flew higher and higher until they peaked the Coliseum. Then, Jack let go.
Darkos ‘s Nuzleaf fell to the ground from that high altitude, landing with a heavy thump. The powerful Flying move proved to much for the Nuzleaf. When the dust cleared, it revealed the Nuzleaf fainted.
“Wow!” the announcer said. “What a powerful move! The Nuzleaf stood no chance!”
Darkos growled as he recalled the KO’d Pokémon.
“Great job, Jack!” Kody cheered his Staravia. “Take that, Darkos!”
“Don’t get your hopes up yet!” Darkos snapped. “Go! Mightyena!”
The newly emerged wolf-like Pokémon Howled into the night air, Intimidating Jack.
“The Blue Corner sends out a Mightyena!” the announcer, of course, announced.
“Wow! A Mightyena,” Amy’s eyes grew wide. “I’ve never seen one before!”
“Hoenn native, that one is,” Roze said proudly.
“I wouldn’t mind having one of those,” Kasandrah added thoughtfully.

“Okay, Jack,” Kody coached back down on the battle field. “Focus. Use Wing Attack!”
The Bird Pokémon nodded, then took back to the air, flying full speed at the Mightyena, then whipped it with his wings. The Dark-type was knocked back, but it shook it off.
“Mightyena, Bite it back!” Darkos commanded.
The Mightyena obeyed without a second thought, racing towards the still flying Jack and launched, jaws wide open. The two fell to the ground, Jack pinned under the dog as it Bit down on it. Jack screamed, Pecking back at the foe until it got off of him. Sore but still full of fight, Jack took back to the air away from the foe’s reach.
“Doing good, Jack! Swoop down at it with Arial Ace!”
Jack followed Kody ‘s command, swooping down at the Mightyena, then arched back up into the air. He preformed a tail-feather turn and swooped back down at the Mightyena, inflicting harsh damage.
The foe growled, bruised and sore, but turned around to fight on.
“Take Down!” Darkos ordered.
His Pokémon growled then limped off towards Jack. It attempted to jump up at the flying bird, but just missed him.
“Fly!” Kody urged Jack, taking advantage of the slip-up.
Mightyena would be too heavy for Jack to Fly, so Jack needed a different Fly technique. He Flew up into the air as high as before, then aimed down at the opponent, tucking his wings against his body. He dived downward like a falling star, then at the last minute he whipped out his talons and dug them into the Mightyena.
It howled in pain.
“Taken down by an intense blow!” the announcer cheered when the Dark-type fainted. “Staravia is on a roll. The Blue Corner has only one more Pokémon left while the Red Corner has all three still in play. The match is reaching it’s final stage.”
“That is one tough Staravia,” Kasandrah admitted appraisingly.
“It’s never been knocked out,” Roze nodded. “It even lasted against a Rock-type Sudowoodo before. Poor Mightyena. Didn’t stand a chance, too.”
“This Jacob guy is on fire! Darkos is being whipped!” Amy said.
“He’ll probably win tonight,” Roze agreed.

“Scared, Darkos?” Kody was taunting now.
Darkos growled, “You haven’t seen anything, yet!”
Kody wasn’t swayed. What did he have to lose now? He’d win the bet easily, he figured. All worry had vanished and was replaced with cockiness. Jack was excited, too, despite his injuries. He might win the whole match single-handedly.
“See how you like this! Go, Sneasel!” Darkos threw his last Pokéball.

“The Blue Corner sends out his last Pokémon: a Ice/Dark-type Sneasel!”
The crowd cheered loudly. Everyone had heard of Darkos ‘s strong Sneasel, who, like Jack, has never lost a match. Everyone except Kasandrah and Amy.
Kasandrah, however, saw it for what it really was. Only she could see, when it screeched demonically and chillingly into the night, the horrific dark aura that surrounded it.
“What’s wrong with that Pokémon?!” She exclaimed.
“What do you mean?” Amy looked confused.
“That Sneasel! It looks weird!”
Amy frowned. “Looks like any other Sneasel to me.”
Kasandrah furrowed her eyebrows. “You seriously can’t see that?”
“No...,” Amy answered uncertainly.
Kasandrah frowned and turned to Roze. “Can’t you see that?”
“See what?” Roze quickly looked from Amy then met Kasandrah ’s eyes.
“That Sneasel! Doesn’t it look odd to you? There’s a creepy dark cloud around it.”
“I don’t see anything wrong with it,” Roze frowned, too.
Kasandrah furrowed her eyebrows and looked away from her companions back to the shadowy Sneasel. “Why can’t they see it?” she whispered to herself, “Why can I see it?”
#*****
“Okay, Jack,” Kody yelled to his Pokémon, “let’s finish this match! Strike it down with Air Cutter!”
“Sneasel, use Secret Move #9!” Darkos commanded his.
“‘Secret Move #9?” Kody said confused.
The Sneasel hissed and shrilled, then emitted a black-colored Ice Beam that looked more than unnatural. It propelled through the air and hit Jack square on the back before he could dodge it.
“What was that?!” the announcer hollered, echoing the audiences’ own comments. “Folks, I’ve never seen the like; but it was sure powerful! The Staravia is down!”
Jack fell to the ground with a heavy thud. Kody watched with horror, making no move to recall the fainted Pokémon.
“What’s the matter, Jacob?” Darkos taunted. “Your little song-bird’s done for!”
Kody glowered, “You’ll pay for that! Go, Echo!”
Echo the Charmander ‘charped’ with delight, anticipating the battle. In his excitement, he opened his maw and breathed a Flamethrower towards the sky.
“Okay, Echo! Stop showing off, silly lizard! Attack with Flame Wheel!”
“Char!” Echo agreed, then began to whirl around in circles. The flame on his tail formed a ring of fire around him as he spun like a top towards the foe. The Sneasel was consumed by the fire, but when the smoke and fire cleared, the Sneasel was still standing.
“What?” Kody exclaimed bewildered.
“Sneasel,” Darkos called to the Pokémon, “strike back with Shadow Slash!”
“Shadow Slash?” Kody was confused.
“Shoot!” Darkos slammed the heel of his hand on his forehead. “Did I say that out loud?”
The Sneasel, nonetheless, attack with the mysterious Shadow Slash. It’s long white claws turned a purple-blackish color, then those claws struck out at Echo.
“Echo! Look out!” Kody yelled.
Echo didn’t need to be told twice; he was high-tailing it out of there, yelping in fright. Unfortunately, the Sneasel was faster. Fortunately, the attack missed.
Kody exhaled with relief, as did his Charmander. Darkos snarled and scolded his Sneasel, which Kody took the time to launch another attack.
“Echo, Flamethrower!”
Echo inhaled, then let loose a stream of intense fire.
“Sneasel, Double Team stat!”
Sneasel hissed and grudgingly obeyed his master. It moved so fast that there appeared to be several of it all around Echo at one time. Echo put an end to his Flamethrower and looked uneasily at the Sneasels that surrounded him.
“Careful, Echo,” Kody encouraged him. “Torch it if you can!”
Echo nodded, then began to breathe embers from his snout, twirling around and around until he created a Fire Spin. It expanded and twirled like a mini tornado, and overlapping the line of Sneasels that had surrounded him. There was no chance the Sneasel could dodge it!
Finally, Echo stopped Spinning. The embers sputtered out and the stage cleared, but it only revealed that the Sneasel hadn’t fainted yet. The foe shook it’s head and hissed at the little Charmander.
“Doesn’t anything take it down?” Kody mumbled to himself.
“Enough games!” Darkos spat. “Finish it, Sneasel!”
The strange Sneasel growled, then launched another attack. Just like before, it’s claws turned dark and it’s eyes glinted strangely. Unlike before, it didn’t miss the unsettled Charmander.
“No!” Kody shouted as Echo went down. “How? How did that...”
Darkos just laughed. “One left, Jacob! Go ahead! Make your move! It will be your last!”
“Those fire moves should have taken it down!” Kody yelled in frustration.
Darkos chuckled. “It will take more than fire moves to take down this fellow. He’s a very special type, you see.”
“What do you mean?”
“Maybe later,” Darkos smiled darkly, “I’ll show you.”
Kody was unsettled. How was it possible that the Sneasel took down two of his Pokémon, ones who had never lost before, and not even break a sweat? He didn’t like it. He didn’t like it one bit.
Then the Sneasel began shrieking.

Kasandrah gasped.
“Can you see it now?” she whirled around to the others, eyes pleading.
“Kasandrah, I can’t see anything wrong with that Sneasel,” Amy sighed, getting agitated. “Stop it, you’re freaking me out!”
“How could you not see this?” Kasandrah turned back to the stage. Through her eyes, she could see what was happening to the Sneasel. The dark aura around the Sneasel turned reddish, fuming like dark thunder clouds. It’s behavior turned violent, and it began to screech on the top of its lungs to the point that everyone had to cover their ears in pain.

Kody covered his own ears as well. Why was the Sneasel acting so weird. He looked over at Darkos and was surprised to see that he looked worried. The Dark Trainer tried to yell at it, but his voice was lost in the intense pitch of the screech.
The Sneasel stopped screeching, however, and began to growl harshly. It looked around its surrounding, hungry for action. It needed a purpose, something to pummel or else it would go mad, or mad-der. There was no opponent Pokémon, unfortunately, but it’s eyes, fevered by the madness it was going through, rested on Kody.
Kody was horrified by what he saw in those eyes as he locked into them. Unlike normal Pokémon eyes, which were bright and alive with light, the Sneasel ‘s swirled with shadows of hate and darkness... and evil intent. Kody knew just what it was going to do, and was terrified by it.
“Aaaaa-aaaa-rrrrrrrr!” it cried, and ran towards the Trainer, claws turning black.
Kody stumbled back, legs failing to respond. He just couldn’t believe what was happening. A Pokémon was attacking him! A Trained Pokémon!
Finally he turned, but tripped over his long pant legs as he ran. He whirled back around as the Sneasel reached him. Time seem to slow down as the evil Sneasel raised it’s claws and brought them down. Kody only had time to lift his arms to shield his face. It stroke once, slicing down Kody ‘s arm, then again, cutting his shoulder. Kody cried out in pain, intense cold filling into his wounds and burned like frost-bite.
“Sneasel! Snap out of it!” Kody could hear Darkos shouting. The other Trainer ran over and tried to pull the Pokémon off of him.
“The Sneasel attacked the Trainer!” the announcer shouted incredulous. All through the audience echoed gasps and cries of dismay. An tense silence ensued as Medical personnel flooded out into the Coliseum and rushed to Kody ‘s side.
Kody was in intense pain. All that could be heard in the Coliseum were his groans and shouts. Just before he blacked out, he caught a glimpse of the Sneasel surrounded by a mysterious aura...

There's Chapter One! I have Chapter Two, but i don't know if it is okay to double post here.

For starters, yes, you can double-post. Only here, though.

Okay, for the title, swap the "e" and "o" around - that isn't how you spell "phoenix".

Where is a "chu" in "Riolu?" You're making signs that Toru is a Raichu, not a Riolu. You pronounce Riolu like this (Like This - Mims [Sorry, got off topic]) : Re - oh - lu.

It's False Swipe. No hyphen. "Growl-ing?" You serious? Again, no hyphen. Thundershock - no hyphen. The phrase "shut up" has no hyphen. What is it with you putting hyphens in words they don't even remotely belong?

Oh, so this is a Shadow Pokemon fanfic? Good story. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk. I sometimes rant. Plot-wise, it's not that bad.

Oh... Pardon my writing. This is my first fan-fiction, and i wasn't quite sure how to do battling sequences. I don't watch the anime shows, so its based off the video games. And i have a hard time trying to describe what a Pokemon call sounds like. Thanks, though mr or ms or mrs Dracologist.

Ch. 2:
Appearances

Kody slowly came to. At first all that he was aware of was the soreness in his arm and shoulder, as if he had overworked the muscles in them. Next, he became aware of voices.
“There’s no blood, right?” said one familiar voice. Kody ‘s muddled mind tried to remember.
Quintin.
“No, there’s no blood,” answered an unfamiliar one. “The cuts weren’t that bad. They’re only mere cat-scratches.”
“Really? The way he was moaning you’d think he was sliced through.”
“Yeah, I’m not sure why it hurt him so bad. He’s not hemophilic, is he?”
“No, he’s not.”
Kody felt someone lift his arm, checking the bandages on it.
“Very odd.”
Cuts? Kody was confused. What are they talking about?
He moaned as the memory all came back to him.
“Are you sure he’s okay?” Quintin asked, concerned.
“Sounds like he’s waking up,” answered the unknown voice. “Are you feeling better, Kody?”
Kody slowly opened his eyes. Two figured were outlined against the fluorescent lights of the locker room.
“Ow,” he answered, then tried to sit up.
“Careful! Get up too fast and you might hurt yourself more,” the stranger said.
Kody obeyed, surprised at how weak he felt, then faced the stranger. He wore the outfit of a medical personnel and wore thick glasses. The doctor checked Kody over then nodded, content.
“I think you’ll be fine,” he concluded. “The cuts were well treated, but you’ll be sore for a while. Pokemon attacks, though rare, usually have that effect. Keep it bandaged and clean for a while. Got it?”
Kody nodded.
“Okay, then,” The medical person stood up. “Come in if it gets worse, though I don’t think it will. Good day!”
Kody watched him leave, then turned to Quintin.
“Who was that?”
“I don’t know... Are you feeling okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry to scare you like that.”
“Scare me! I nearly had a heart failure!” Quintin slapped him on his good shoulder. “I didn’t want to be the guy to tell your parents that their son was... Anyway, listen. I got some bad news, and some good news. Which do you want to hear first?”
Kody sighed, “Better hear the good news first.”
“It’s this: Darkos was disqualified, so you’re going to the Semi-finals!”
Kody weakly grinned. “That’s fantastic. Now what’s the bad news?”
“Your parent’s called your cell phone. They’ll be home in 5 minutes.”
Kody moaned. “Let’s get out of here.”
“Are you going to tell them?”
“No, of course not.”
“Kody, how are you going to hide this? They bound to find out!”
Kody slumped off the bench. “That’s what you said when I first started sneaking to the Coliseum matches. Look, I can hide the bandages by wearing long sleeves.”
“Wh-,” Quintin began.
“Listen,” Kody cut him short, “as much as I’d like to argue this out, I am really tired and need to get home fast. So let’s go.”
Quintin sighed. “Fine then, let’s just get you home. The fastest way would be on Jack, but it’s not the best idea right now.”
“Sounds fine to me,” Kody shrugged.
“No! You’ll hurt yourself!”
“Quint, you worry too much,” Kody grinned as they left the building. The cool night air was refreshing after the stuffiness of the locker room. Kody breathed it in, then threw Jack’s ball to release him.
“I’ll see you later, Quint!” Kody waved, then reached up and grabbed Jack’s strong talons. Jack, aware of his master’s condition, gripped him harder yet carefully. The bird flapped his wings harder, then soon they were Flying toward the stars. Quintin sighed and waved, soon shrinking to the size of an ant.
Trainer and Pokemon Flew towards their home.

Back within the Coliseum, audience members were filing out, but there was an unnatural silence. No one dared to speak because everyone was too appalled. A Pokémon attacking a human? It was unheard of!
At least, to most of the audience.
One man sat where he was, among the now empty risers, thinking.
“The rumors were true,” he mumbled to himself. “Right here, in the Battle Capitol of the World.”
The man stood up, knowing the course of action he must take now. First, he had to contact the Professor, then find the boy...

“I just can’t believe it,” Amy sighed, now outside of the Coliseum. “I wonder if he’s going to be okay.”
“Don’t worry,” Roze tried to cheer them up. “The Medical Personnel can handle it. We’ll probably find that out on tomorrow’s news. Right, Kassy? ”
Kassy said nothing. She was still trying to figure out what she had seen. What was wrong with the Sneasel? Why couldn’t anyone else see it? Why did it attack that Trainer? These were questions she went over and over again, but frustratingly couldn’t come up with an answer.
“Anyway,” Roze frowned at Kassy ‘s lack of input. “Let’s go to the hotel now.”
“What hotel is it?” Amy asked.
“It’s the Dragon-Night hotel,” Roze smiled. “My uncle manages it. I’m sure he’ll get you guys a great suite for a great price!”
“Sounds great. How far is it from here?”
“It’s down Main-street, which is quite a walk from here. But no worries, there’s a bus system we can take. The closest bus stop is right around the corner.”
“A bus?” Kassy snapped out of her thoughts.
“Welcome back to Earth, Kassy!” Amy teased.
“There it is,” Roze pointed after they rounded a corner. There a large bus with a plump green Tropius was painted on it’s side was currently loading a large group of people who had also come from the Gateway.
“Looks like we’re in for a crowded ride,” Roze remarked, then pushed for a spot in line.
“I hope you’re not claustrophobic,” Amy regarded Kassy then followed Roze. “Me, too,” Kassy sighed.
They all crowed into the bus. Amy and Roze got the last seats by the window and Kassy had to stand in the aisle. While the other two pointed and laughed at the various sites on Mainstreet, Kassy ’s temper was being tried as an old women holding a fat Snubbull constantly elbowed her.
“What’s this place?” Kassy heard Amy ask.
“This plaza is where the Mainstreet Coliseum is held,” Roze explained. “And where the best shops are.”
“Is that the stage there?”
“Yep.”
“We should go there tomorrow! I want to battle in there!”
“So you have Pokémon? What kinds?”
“I got a Buneary, Chingling, Bonsly, Pikachu, Muchlax, and a Mime Jr. How about you?”
“Those are cute Pokémon. Myself? I got a great team: Grovyle, a Shelgon, a Sealo, Magnetric, Hariyama, and a Roserade.”
“What? I’ve seen a Roserade before, but what’s a Grovyle?”
“You’ve never seen a Grovyle? I’ll have to show you when we get to the hotel.”
“How you doing, Kassy?”
“Fine,” Kassy growled, grouchiness clearly coming back.
Luckily for Kassy, the bus crowd started to thin over the next few stops. Before long, she found a seat for herself. The noise quieted down to the point that she could think again. She was so tired that she soon fell asleep. Towards the end of the bus route, she was shaken awake.
“Wha-?” She yawned.
“We’re here,” Roze smiled.
“Good,” Kassy said, stretching her arms.
“Follow me, guys,” Roze motioned.
The trio got off the bus and faced the Dragon-Night hotel. Above the entry way, a statue of Dragonite wearing a night cap raised it’s paw up in a yawn. Though the building was not as tall as some of the other skyscraper, it achieved an appearance of majesty and luxury. A red carpet led up to the front door where an official looking guard waited to open the door for guests.
“Evening, Charles,” Roze nodded to the guard. “Is Uncle still here?”
“Good evening, Miss Paterson,” Charles greeted them and held the door for them, “I believe he is.”
“Thank you, Charles.”
“You’re welcome, Miss.”
The Hotel opened up into a luxurious Great Hall, the red carpet leading up to the front desk. Between the pillars on either side were fountains of Dragonites, Dragonairs, and Dratinis. The pillars and floors were made of smooth marble. Colorful tapestries hung from the ceiling, floral displays spanned low tables below antique paintings of people and Pokémon. All the while Amy and Kassy stared with gaping mouths and wide eyes. They had never seen such display of wealth and lavishness.
Roze walked ahead of the gawking girls to the front desk where a man with large glasses messed with a laptop.
“Hello, Uncle Dewey! I’m back from the match!” she leaned across the counter and tapped the top of the laptop’s screen.
“You certainly are!” Uncle Dewey smiled. “A little early, though. Is everything alright?”
“Boy, I have a lot to tell you! But first, I want to introduce these two.” She turned around, but Amy and Kassy were still staring at the elaborate decoration.
“Hey, you two!” She yelled at them, snapping them out of their daze. “Get over here!”
“Oh, right,” Amy said and rushed up to the counter.
Uncle Dewey chuckled. “Quite the place, isn’t it.”
“It’s amazing!” Amy stole another look around.
“Uncle,” Roze went on, “this is Amy and Kasandrah. They just got here from Sinnoh, and need a place to stay.”
“From Sinnoh, eh? Great place! Went there on a business trip one time. So you need a place to stay, eh?”
“Do you think you can get them a room, Uncle?” Roze smiled.
“I’ll see what I can do...,” he turned back to the computer and began to tap at it. “Looks like I have one more two bedroom suite. Would that be okay for you two?”
“That would be great, sir,” Kassy nodded, “but we don’t have any money...”
“Nonsense! I would never take any money from Roze ‘s friends. Besides, newer Trainers get room for free for a month or two. You guys probably haven’t gone to the registration office, then, if you didn’t know that.”
“Like I said,” Roze interrupted, “they just got here. I was planning on showing them the office tomorrow anyway.”
“Technically, I can’t give them a room until they’ve registered, but I can’t turn away any guest at this late hour. I let them have the room, then.”
“Thanks, Uncle Dewey!” Roze hugged her uncle.
“Yeah, thank you, sir!” Amy said.
“You’re welcome. Roze,” Dewey turned and grabbed a pair of cards from the wall slots behind him. “Can you show our guest to room 113 on the seventh floor? Here’s the keys...”
“Sure will! Thanks again, Uncle! Come on guys!”
Roze led them past the front desk to the nearest elevator. To Kassy ‘s amazement, the large elevator room held a real live Dragonite who wore the usual Hotel get-up and hat. It hovered near the buttons and awaited Roze ‘s command.
“Seventh floor, Please,” Roze nodded.
“Hrrr!” The Dragonite smiled and tapped a button.
“Is...is that...a real Dragonite?” Kassy gawked.
“Don’t stare at him,” Roze whispered. “He doesn’t like it. Makes him feel self-conscience.”
“Hrrr, Hrrr!” the Dragonite shifted uncomfortably.
“Oh, sorry,” Kassy looked away.
The elevator rose slowly and finally came to a stop with a bleep.
“Hrrr-rrr!” The Dragonite grunted, opening the door.
“Thank you, Dragonite,” Roze smiled, then whispered to the others, “Be nice and say thank you, or else he’ll feel bad. He’s very sensitive.”
“Oh, right,” Amy nodded. “Thank you, Mr. Dragonite!”
“Yeah, thank you.” Kassy agreed.
“Hrrr!” The Dragonite nodded happily.
The doors of the elevator slid shut.
“Sorry about that, but he’s a very spoiled dragon,” Roze apologized. “Any way, here’s your room: one-thirteen.”
She slid one of the card keys into the slot in the door handle. The door hissed open on a hydraulic system and slid into the wall. The Sinnoh girls were once again amazed by the elaborate display of richness. The suite had two separate bedrooms with downy mattresses, a full-sized kitchen (a shame, Kassy thought, because none of them could really cook), marble bathroom with a strange shower and hot-tub, and a sitting room area with a wide screen TV. All decorated to the point of overwhelming any who looked for too long.
“H-O-L-Y, M-I-L-T-A-N-K!” Kassy breathed, dropping her suitcases and bags were she stood. “Are you serious? Is this really our place?”
“Yep,” Roze smiled. “Tonight, you’ll be sleeping like queens!” She picked up the girls’ bags and set them in each of the rooms. “Breakfast will be served from seven until ten. There’s a pool on the first floor. And room service 24/7. So, tomorrow, if you still want too, we can get you registered and start touring. If you wake up before me, I’ll be in room nine. If not, I’ll see you guys at breakfast. How’s that sound?”
“Okay,” Amy nodded, admiring the curtains that hung around the frame of the bed.
“I’ll let you guys settle in, then,” Roze opened the door back up. “See you guys tomorrow!”
“Yeah, see ya!” The girls answered.
“Can you believe this?” Amy trilled. “Pinch me! I must be dreaming! OW!”
“Nope, still awake,” Kassy smirked.
Amy knitted her eyebrows and slapped Kassy back.
“Hey!”
“You deserved it!” Amy left and went into the sitting room.
“Mom would never believe this!” Kassy heard her say to herself. Amy’s mother. She was a cook at the Poffin House back in Sinnoh ‘s Hearthome. A very kind lady who had helped Kassy when the Trainer had first started her Journey.
Kassy had come down with a severe case of swift-fever, a virus that started out as a cold but could quickly become an ugly sickness. She was fine moments earlier, but soon collapsed in the streets coughing and trembling with a high fever. Amy’s mother was one of the people who saw what was happening to her and quickly took her in. For weeks she and Amy worked hard to help Kassy ‘s fever break, and finally Kassy woke up and recovered.
Kassy couldn’t thank them enough, and asked them if there was anything she could do in return. Amy’s mother looked from her to Amy, then asked Kassy if she would take Amy with her on her Journey. Teach her the ways of the Trainer, and help her become strong. Ever since then, Kassy has looked after Amy, now ten, and helped her train.
“Okay, Amy,” Kassy called to her. “It’s late and we should get some rest now.”
“I’m not tired!” Amy protesting, trying to muffle a yawn.
“Sure you are, and so am I. See you in the morning.” Kassy yawned and went into her room.
“Kassy?” Amy’s voice followed. “Can you make pancakes in the morning?”
“Amy, you know I can’t cook,” Kassy shook her head. “Besides, I’m sure the Hotel will serve pancakes for that breakfast. Now get some sleep.”
“All right,” Amy sighed. “Good night, Kassy.”
“Night,” Kassy yawned.
The light were soon out in room 113 of the Dragonite Hotel. Kassy could see from the arc in her window the few stars that winked in the Pokétopia sky. What a relief it was to her to finally be here. She was confident that she could train her party easily here, as could Amy. Maybe she could go as far as beating the Champion, or whatever that title was called here. Tomorrow would be the start of something new, she could tell.
Before Kassy could drift off, though, her thoughts returned to the boy Trainer, Jacob Bradley. She hoped he wasn’t hurt bad, but there was something about that kid. The way he had scowled at the other trainer... It was almost as if... as if he knew what was going to happen. Did he? Kassy finally drifted off into sleep before she could finish her thoughts...

Kody woke up in the morning sore, of course. Toru had to jump on him to get the boy to wake up, only making him more sore.
“I’m up, I’m up!” Kody moaned and planted his feet on the floor.
Toru grunted, satisfied.
Kody sighed and ruffled his hair. He had been lucky last night. He managed to slip in moments before his parents opened the door. Toru had slept the whole time, too. Now all he had to worry about was keeping it all a secret, and staying awake through his job. He didn’t want to make anyone suspicious, especially his mother. Toru might keep quiet if he knew, but for all the disapproving faces that Riolu could cast when his master kept secrets from his parents, it would be better for him not to know.
“Ko-dee!” he heard his mother shout from the kitchen. “I got breakfast ready! Get out of bed!”
“Coming!” Kody jumped up and slipped on a carefully chosen long-sleeve shirt.
“Morning, sleepy-head!” teased Sierra, one of Kody ‘s sisters, as he stumbled into the dining room.
“Don’t you think it’s a little too warm here for long sleeves?” Emily, Erika ‘s twin sister, commented on his choice of shirt.
“I’m a little cold today, that’s all,” Kody answered, and it wasn’t a complete lie. He really was cold.
“Here’s some pancakes!” Sharon walked in, carrying a heaping plate of breakfast. She set them down on the table as Kody took his place at the table beside Sierra. Mark put aside his news paper and took the first serving.
“These look great, Mom!” Sierra commented as she reached across and grabbed several flat-cakes.
“Taste great!” Mark agreed. “So, did anyone else read the paper today? There’s a short article in there about some incident at the Gateway.”
Kody swallowed hard, and looked up guiltily. Lucky for him, no one was paying attention to him.
“What happened?” Sharon asked, taking her place at the table.
“It says that a Trainer was attacked by a Sneasel.”
“What!?” The Carters exclaimed.
“People said that the battle was going fine, but then the Sneasel started acting odd. It went mad and lashed out at the opposing Trainer. Cut him on the arm and shoulder.”
“Well, is he all right?” Sierra said.
“The Medical Personnel said he’d be fine, but no one could find the Sneasel nor it’s Trainer after the match. They just...disappeared.”
“A Pokémon attack!” Emily said. “Who would of thought of it?”
“Who was the Trainer, Dad?” Sierra asked.
“Some kid named Jacob Bradley,” Mark answered. “He’s going to the Semi-finals next week.”
“Oh, poor guy. I hear he’s a really good Trainer,” Emily sighed.
“Well, now,” Sharon said, starting on her pancake. “Aren’t you glad you didn’t go there last night, Kody? That could have been you out there.”
Kody tried to look normal. “Yeah, that would have been bad.”
When no one was looking, he bit his lip.

The sun shone through the arch in the window and slowly woke Kassy up. She stretch and yawned, then changed and crept into the kitchen. The clock on the oven and microwave read 11:45 p.m. She had almost slept until noon.
There was a note on the counter from Amy:

Good morning! Listen, you slept in late, and I getting bored, so I’m meeting up with Roze and going to get some breakfast.

Scribbled in another color of ink was:

You’re still asleep, so me and Roze are going on ahead to register. Uncle Dewey said he’ll tell you were it is. Meet us at the Mainstreet Coliseum.

Kassy sighed. She had been ditched. Why did Amy have to be so impatient? Ah, well, I’d better go find breakfast then chew them out.
Down in the lobby, Dewey greeted her.
“Good morning, Miss Kasandrah,” he said.
“Thank you, Mr. Dewey. Is there still some breakfast?”
“I’m sorry, but I’m afraid we stopped serving it at ten.”
“Where can I get a decent breakfast, then?” Kassy sighed.
“Id try Munchy ‘s, across the way. They serve breakfast 24/7.”
“Why would I want to eat at a place called Munchy ‘s?”
“Don’t knock it ‘till you try it. It’s merely named after Munchlax.”
“I guess. Anyway, when did Amy and Roze leave?”
“After breakfast, about...nine-ish, I think. They wanted to tell you to swing by the Mainstreet before one.”
Kassy sighed. “I guess I’d better get going then. Where can I find the Registration Office?”
“I’ll get a map,” Dewy said, getting back behind the front desk. “I’m better at showing then explaining. By the way, some men swung by and were looking for you.”
“What?”
“They were a shady bunch, those men. They said they knew you and wanted to talk to you, but you’ve only been here for a night. I didn’t trust them, so I said you didn’t stay here. You’d better keep an eye and a Pokémon out, miss. Here’s the map.”
After Dewey showed her the location of the office, Kassy thanked him and left the Hotel uneasy. Why would someone be looking for her? She didn’t know anyone here, and she especially didn’t hang out with shady folk. She shuddered.
“Go, Billy!” She threw one of her Pokéballs into the air. Out of it appeared a Croagunk. He croaked and looked at his new surroundings.
“Welcome to Pokétopia, Billy,” Kassy smiled, then grabbed the Pokémon ’s paw. “We’re going to the registration office, first, then we might battle at our first coliseum.”
“Rrr-rrr-ribbit!” Billy inflated the sacks on his face.
“Let’s go!”

*****

“Excuse me,” a man was trying to catch the attention of the Medical Personnel at the Gateway Coliseum. It was the same man who had watched Kody ‘s match the other night, the same man who was now looking for the boy. His search had led him here, thinking that the Medical team might now something about this Jacob Bradley.
“Can I help you, sir?” a nurse finally heard and asked him, walking up to the window he was tapping on.
“Yes, I need to talk to the man who treated the Sneasel attack victim.”
“I’m sorry to say, but we’re quite busy at the moment. Perhaps you can come back later.”
“But it’s really important that I speak with him.”
“Important? Well, I’ll see what I can do.”
“Thank you, ma’am,” the man nodded as the lady turned and walked away. He waited patiently until she returned with a short man who wore thick lens glasses.
“How can I be of assistance to you, sir?” he asked.
“I have some questions about last night’s attack. I was hoping you could answer them.”
“Oh, that. Well, where should I start?”
“How bad were the injuries?”
“The cuts themselves weren’t too ugly, only scratches. But for some reason, they seemed to hurt the patient horribly. After a while, the pain appeared to abate, and the patient seemed fine.”
“Is he hospitalized?”
“No, sir. He wasn’t nauseated or feverish, didn’t lose a lot of blood, so we released him. I guess he must be okay because he hasn’t come back in. You aren’t another reporter, are you?” he frowned.
“Oh, no!” the man behind the window assured. “I’ve done research on Pokemon attacks, some more gruesome then this, and I was just concerned. What kind of treatment did you give him?”
“Oh, a researcher and scientist, then? Well, I just sterilized it with antiseptic and bandaged it up.”
“Tell me, is there anyway I can contact the victim?”
“Hmm, usually I’m not suppose to release this kind of information, but I’m sure Jacob wouldn’t mind. He seems to be a good kid. However, Jacob Bradley’s a mystery. Usually the only time anyone sees him is at the Coliseums, and usually at night. No one’s quite sure where he stays, so I don’t know how you can contact him.” the doctor, rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “But, I think there’s a person who could help you find him: Quintin Brown. That kid was with Jacob the night of the attack, and was with him when I released him. I wager he knows where to find Jacob.”
“Where can I find this Quintin?”
“His father is a technician, so I think they live in the Regigigas Building.”
“Thank you, sir,” with that the man left the medical center.

*****

“Name, please,” asked the lady at the Registration Office. An older woman, the receptionist had strange square lenses and an unusually pointy nose. One could compare her to a Fearow, but couldn’t call her that to her face. This woman was strict, mean, and prim. She and Kassy were working at a computer along a line of stalls of office workers were other Trainers were getting registered.
“Kasandrah Griffon,” Kassy spelled.
“Title.”
“Title?” Kassy looked confused.
“You’re nickname?” The secretary looked up over her square glasses, arching a long, thin eyebrow. “What you want to be called?”
“Oh, um...,” Kassy stumbled to synthesis a title. Not having much luck, she finally remembered what some opponents she faced called themselves. “Ace Trainer, I guess.”
The receptionist did that arch with her eyebrow again, but typed the title into the computer. “Now show me your Pokemon,” she commanded.
“Yes, ma’am,” Kassy nodded, then pointed to Billy. “This is Billy, the-”
“Just the species name,” the Fearow lady waved impatiently, tapping on the computer keyboard.
“The Croagunk,” Kassy finished. Billy croaked, offended. He liked his name, in fact was proud of it. How often do you come across a Croagunk named Billy? Yeah, didn’t think so.
“Next,” Fearow lady said.
Kassy looked at Billy, who shrugged in the Croagunk way. Who does she think she is? Kassy sighed, then sent out her next Pokémon.
“Grrr-rrrhhh!” growled Terra the Grotle.
“Grotle,” Fearow lady muttered, typing it in. “Next.”
Kassy unlocked her next ball and released her next.
“Rrrr-rrrh-rrra!” sang Soran.
“Buizel. Next.”
“Errrp!” chirped the next Pokemon, named Chewy.
“Gible. Next.”
Grace was sent out next, crying in her sing-song voice. The room cooled noticeably, but not to an uncomfortable degree. In fact, Kassy was glad of the temperature drop. It was stuffy here in the cubicles.
“Glaceon,” Fearow lady nodded, looking slightly impressed (maybe it was just a trick of the light, though). “Next.”
Last was Willow, who trilled excitedly.
“Hrrrrrrr!”
Suddenly the cubicle smelled like plants and earth, a comfortable scent that soothed the other Pokemon.
“And a Leafeon,” Fearow lady typed, looking slightly more impressed (the lighting was considerably bad in there, you know). Then she turned away from the screen and peered down her pointy nose at the team. “Is this your whole party, then? No more we should know about?”
“This is us,” Kassy grinned, looking proudly at her party.
“Very well,” Fearow lady sniffed, then began typing at her computer. After she hit the last key, the data was sent to the mainframe computer. The receptionist waited for a while, then snatched a card that was being printed out of a strange printer.
Handing it to Kassy, the Fearow lady said, “Here’s your Pokétopia Trainer card, and also a map of the island, and a list of the Coliseum and their times, and a brochure. Now, take your card up to the front desk and have that receptionist check your card in. Enjoy your stay in the ‘Battle Capital of the World’.”
“Er... Thank you,” Kassy accepted the items, then returned all of her Pokémon except Billy the agitated Croagunk. Gladly, she and he left the cubicle and headed to the front desk as told.
A tall young woman with blond hair and a earphone mic stood stationed there. She smiled pleasantly as the Trainer drew near.
“Did you get registered, miss?” she asked.
“I think so,” Kassy nodded.
“Rrr-rrr-ribbit!” Billy complained. Kassy turned to him sharply and put a finger to her lips.
“Um, sure,” The blond lady said uncertainly to Billy. “Anyway, may I see your card?”
“Here,” Kassy passed the card up to the counter.
“Thank you,” the receptionist accepted the card and turned to her computer. She swiped the card through a machine and waited for the results. “So, where do you come from?”
“We’re from Sinnoh.”
“Sinnoh? Nice place. My cousin lives there. She says it’s a little chilly where she lives at, though.”
“Snowpoint City?” Kassy guessed.
“Yeah, that’s the place. Looks like this is done,” she turned back to the computer. “And it looks like it okay. Congratulations, you are an official Pokétopia Trainer now.” She handed her back her card. “I hope you enjoy your stay. Good luck with your battles.”
“Thank you,” Kassy nodded, then turned to leave. She hesitated, then turned and asked, “Who’s your cousin, by the way?”
The blond receptionist smiled. “Candice,” she answered, then turned back to the computer.
Kassy stared. Candice the Gymleader? She was related to her?
“Can I help you with anything else?” The receptionist said without turning around.
“Hold on. Do you mean, Candice...the Gymleader?”
“Yep. She gets her black hair from her father’s side but on her mother’s side I’m her cousin.”
“Small world,” Kassy said under her breath. “She’s a wonderful Leader.”
“She’s tough, isn’t she?” The receptionist finally turned around. “Did you get her badge?”
“No. I went to challenge her, but she thrashed me. After the match, she said that I could use more training and gave me some tickets for a boat that was coming here.”
“Candice sent you here? Well then, I’ll have to let her know you got here,” She smiled. “Candice and the other Gymleaders send tons of Trainers who show great promise here every year to help them grow. After they go back those Trainers usually win all the badges and challenge the League. Candice is so competitive, she’s racing against the other Gymleaders to find a Trainer to send here who’s good enough to win the Championship. She must of found great promise in you. She’ll be calling every week to know how your doing. I’ll have to keep an eye on you.”
“Great, more pressure,” Kassy sighed.
The receptionist laughed. “My name is Breanna, by the way. If you have any questions, just call me up. I work here most of the time.”
“Thank you,” Kassy nodded. “Let’s go, Billy.”
“Rrr-rrr-rrribit!” the Croagunk agreed.
“I’ll be rooting for you,” the receptionist waved then turned back to her work.

“Kody!” Quintin Brown was shouting over the traffic. The short kid was trying to push through the crowd of tourist but was finding it hard. So he was shouting and waving a newspaper in his hand.
Kody sighed and waited for his friend to catch up.
“Excuse me,” Quintin apologize to pedestrians as he elbowed his way over. “Pardon. Sorry. Passing through. Finally!”
“Hey, Quint,” Kody smiled as Quintin caught his breath.
“Are you alone?” Quintin panted, remembering Kody ‘s grounded conditions. He wasn’t allowed to go anywhere unsupervised.
“Almost,” Kody pointed to his older sister, Emily, who was busily chatting with one of her friends, maybe more, on her cell phone. She was several paces ahead of them, so she didn’t even notice Quintin.
“O.K. Did... you see this?” Quintin handed him the newspaper.
“Yeah. I saw it,” Kody sighed, pushed it away, and continued walking.
“You’re parent haven’t found out, have they?” Quintin shrugged his backpack on and followed.
“Luckily, no.”
“Ah. You had me worried. I was half-expecting you to be dead meat.”
“I’m always worrying you,” Kody rolled his eyes. “You seriously need to chill. You’re freaking out for no reason.”
“I’m not use to breaking rules and getting in trouble.” Quintin sighed. “Before I moved here, I actually had a conscience.”
Kody laughed. Quintin came from Kanto a few months earlier, and like Kody, loved Battles. They became friends after he battled Kody during his first competition. His father was a technician, so he inherited technology skills which made him a little nerd-y. Kody recently used his skills to hack him into battles and make a fake identity. Quintin had a hard time doing any of this, being a goody-two-shoes guy, and wouldn’t let Kody forget it.
Admittedly, Kody didn’t enjoy hacking either. He knew it was wrong, but he had a passion for battling. He couldn’t let his disapproving family know he was still battling, so he had to sneak around. He had to become Jacob Bradley, the mysterious Novice Trainer.
“Does it hurt?” Quintin asked.
“What?” Kody broke out of his thoughts.
“The cuts. Do they hurt?”
Kody frowned. “No, but they always feel really cold.”
“Cold?” Quintin looked quizzical.
“Feels like I put ice on it,” Kody explained. “Sometimes it stings as if its been on ice too long, but it doesn’t hurt like before...”
“Maybe if feels like that because Sneasel ‘s a Ice-type,” Quintin suggested.
“Maybe...,” Kody shrugged.
“What if it was a Grass-type? You’d might have turned green and plants growing out of your arm!”
“Not funny, Quint,” Kody fixed him with a head shake.
“Just sayin’,” Quintin shrugged. “Man, you’re grumpy today.”
Kody said nothing, just continued walking. He was headed down Mainstreet to work today, and wasn’t looking forward to it. From where they were now, they could hear the cheers of spectators coming from the Coliseum. An excellent battle was taking place, which agitated Kody because he couldn’t go see what was going on.
“Did you see this other article?” Quintin pointed to the newspaper again. Kody, who was much taller than his friend, looked down to where he was pointing. The article was titled: “Rash of Thievery Plagues City”. Kody took the paper from Quintin’s grasp and read on.

Yet another store has been broken into and robbed last week. This is the seventh reported robbery this month. Police have yet to report what has been stolen from Bronzor PokéMart, but what all the thefts have in common is the stolen merchandise: Pokéballs, Potions, Elixirs, and Technical Machines. Objects made of metal and electronic devices were also reported to have taken. The stores that have been affected include Carter’s Caper Souvenirs, Elekid Electronics, Carnavine Carnival, Empoleon Emporium, Orchard’s Grocery, and Mako Sharpedo.
The situation has baffled authorities.
“In all the thefts, the security cameras had been paralyzed and alarm systems fried,” reports Officer Salem. “The thieves seem to strike when and where no one expects, and leaves no evidence for us to identify. It has been a frustrating investigation.”
The Police Department of Pokétopia are tightening security on all commercial buildings, and warning store owners to stay alert.

“Another robbery?” Kody shook his head and gave the paper back to Quintin.
“Isn’t it ridiculous?” Quintin pushed his glasses back up on his nose. “Security around here is really slipping. I wonder where will they strike next?”
“I wonder who’s doing this? Is it the same guy I saw, or someone else?”
“I bet you five bucks it’ll be Minun Market, or Plusle Plaza.”
Kody rolled his eyes.
“Have you noticed our obsession with alliteration?” Quintin asked. “Minun Market, Plusle Plaza, Carnavine Carnival, Empoleon Emporium? Come on! Its making my head spin.”
Kody laughed. “It is a little strange, isn’t it. Well, I got to work until five today. Are you working with your dad today?”
“No, I have the day off after I pick up Pixel from the Pokemon Center. I was thinking about trying the Waterfall Coliseum today. Speaking of Coliseums, how are you going to get into the semifinal match tomorrow?”
“Sh!” Kody cut him off. Emily had just got off the phone and was turning around to check on him. “I’ll figure it out later,” he muttered.
“Hey, Quintin!” Emily waved and stopped to let them catch up to her. “Haven’t seen you around lately. What have you been up to?”
“Nothing much. Just thought I’d drop in and say hi before I go run some errands. I’d better be off now, though.”
“Okay. We’ll see you around!” Emily smiled.
“Yeah, see ya!” Quintin waved and turned the opposite direction.
“See ya,” Kody said back.

*****

“Kassy!” Amy shouted when she saw her friend enter the Coliseum’s plaza. She sped off to meet her, leaving Roze in the dust.
“Arg! I finally found you guys!” Kassy rolled her eyes. “What’s the big idea? Would it have killed you to wait longer? You could have just woke me up.”
“Waking you up would be like waking up an Ursaring,” Amy joked. “But you’re here now! Just in time to enter a competition! Billy!”
Amy reached down and gave the Croagunk a big hug. Billy croaked in complaint, but Amy still hung on.
“Good morning, Kassy,” Roze greeted as she finally joined them. A Chatot perched on her shoulder copied her, saying in a garbled, throaty voice:
“Good morning! Good morning! Errrah!”
“Oh, Mozart. Do you have to copy everything I say?” Roze sighed.
“Errrah! Everything! Everything!” Mozart the Chatot replied.
“Anyway, I trust you enjoyed your stay at the hotel?”
“It was very nice, thank you,” Kassy nodded, smiling at the bird’s antics.
“Good! So, will you be battling today? There’s bound to be good matches today.”
“Of course she will!” Amy declared. “And she’s going to win them all! Just you watch! Right, Kassy?”
“Maybe,” Kassy smiled. “Did you guys all ready compete?”
“I got a match in fifteen minutes!” Amy exclaimed.
“I’ll be on in a half hour,” Roze put in. “But I think you can get in one before then if you sign up now.”
“Sign up now! Sign up now!” Mozart whistled.
“What are we standing around for?” Kassy shrugged. “Let’s go!”
“Sign up’s over here, Kassy. Follow me,” Amy grabbed her arm and started dragging her towards a bright blue tent. There, blue-suited Coliseum employees took her card and ran it through a computer, and soon she was scheduled to battle after Roze.
“Isn’t this exciting, Kassy?” Amy said. “This is our first competitions in Pokétopia! I hope we win!”
“You guys will do great,” Roze encouraged, then looked down at her Pokétech watch. “Oh, look at the time! Amy, you’d better get off to the stage. The Junior Competition will be starting soon.”
“Okay! I’ll see you guys later!” Amy waved and took off to the Mainstreet Coliseum, where other kids of her age group were gathering.
“We’d better find some seats, then,” Roze said to Kassy.
“Lead the way. I have no idea where I’m going.”
“Big place, huh?” Roze smiled.
“Oh, yes. And there’s tons of people.”
“Tons and Tons!” Mozart sympathized.
“Yeah, I know what you mean. It was a huge shock when I came here from Hoenn. You get use to it after a little while, though. So, who’s this?” Roze nodded to Billy.
“This is my Croagunk, Billy.” Kassy patted him on the back proudly.
“Billy, Billy, Billy! Errrah!” Mozart greeted him. Billy, a little agitated by the bird, glared at him with throat sacks inflating and deflating.
“Well, nice to meet you Billy,” Roze smiled. “Look, I think that platform up there would be a good spot. Want to watch from there?”
“Sounds good to me.”
“Good! Good! Good to me! Errrah!” Mozart copied, causing Billy to croak in complaint.
Roze and Kassy made their way to the platform as the announcer began speaking.
“Good afternoon Pokemon fans! This is the Junior Division Competition. Today, twelve boys and girls will be battling for the chance to compete in the Open competition, and perhaps against the Coliseum Leader. What a wonderful experience for these youths! Round One will begin within a few minutes, ladies and gentlemen. Be sure to watch Round Two tomorrow at one o’clock to see how the six winners from this round will turn out.”
“So, they don’t hold the Competition all in one day?” Kassy asked as she listened.
“No, there’s so many people who want to battle that they hold several different Competitions in one day and extend them through the week. Here at the Mainstreet, first rounds are held Monday and Tuesday while second rounds are held Wednesday. Third rounds, if there are any, are held on Thursday. Friday’s the semifinals, and Saturday is the finals against the Coliseum Leader.”
“Who’s the Coliseum Leader?”
“Her name is Taylor and she’s an enthusiastic Pachirisu fan. I think she’s about Amy’s age, too.”
“She’s that young and still a Coliseum Leader?”
“Yeah, and she’s pretty tough. When I first came here, I got to compete against her and lost.”
“Impressive,” Kassy frowned. They were on the platform now, and had a reasonable view from there. A larger white platform below made up the Coliseum Stage and was being dotted with color as confetti fell on it. Above them, huge balloon Pokemon drifted through the air. One was a Pachirisu, and reminded Kassy what Roze had said about the Leader a few moments before.
“Match One of Round One is about to begin,” the announcer spoke up again. “The first Trainers of the day are making their way out onto the stage. Flower Girl Danielle Ivington in the blue corner will be battling Beginner Trainer Kyle Oakely in the red corner.”
Danielle entered the stage waving a Pokeball and blowing kisses to her audience, while Kyle came in looking rather nervous.
“Match Two afterwards will be between 7th Grader Amy Garner and Bee Girl Breanna Wilcox. Let the Battles begin!”
“Errrah! Battles begin!” Mozart whistled.
Danielle tossed the ball she had been waving and released her first Pokemon: Bellsprout. It spread its leafy arms and bowed to the audience.
Kyle gulped and sent out his own Pokemon. A Wurmple was soon crawling its way towards the center of the stage.
The Bellsprout began to attack first. It dashed towards the opponent and kicked the Wurmple with its root like legs. The Wurmple recoiled, rubbing its face where it had been Vine-Whipped. Kyle shouted some encouragement, then the bug attacked back with String Shot. The web-like strings of silk entangled the Bellsprout to the point of immobilization. It struggled hard against the web while the Wurmple Tackled it. Finally, using its sharp leaves it sliced through the silk.
The Wurmple saw it get free, and charged at it. The stinger on its forehead was aimed at the sprout for a Poison Sting attack. Bellsprout shook itself off only to be knocked down by the attack.
Bellsprout was getting tired, but, enraged by the surprise attack, went for another move. Thrusting its arms, it sent out Razor-sharp Leaves flying towards the foe. Wurmple was cut and knocked back by the move. What it did next was unexpected: the caterpillar -like Pokemon shrieked and began to inch away. Bellsprout chased it, throwing Razor Leaves at it and trying to whip it with its feet.
The audience began to laugh as the Trainer tried to soothe his Wurmple, but with no avail. When Bellsprout eventually stopped to catch its breath, the worm stopped running around in circles. Hesitantly, it obeyed its Trainer’s command and attacked the panting Bellsprout with another Poison Sting.
The Bellsprout fell to the ground, and, exhausted, didn’t get up.
Wurmple won. The bug Pokemon looked confused, but once he got it he cheered and danced around.
Danielle sent out her next Pokemon, which was an Oddish. It finished off the Wurmple, and Kyle’s next Pokemon, Azurill. Kyle’s last Pokemon, Zubat, defeated that Oddish, as well as a Sunkern. In the end, Kyle won.

“Bwwwrrrrrr –rrk!” Pixel the Porygon complained. Quintin had him imprisoned in a pet carrier that they had to use that ever since they lost his Pokeball. He had just returned from the Pokemon Center fresh from debugging, and was grumpy as can be.
“Oh, calm down, Pixel!” Quintin rolled his eyes. Pixel never liked being contained, and he thought the pet carrier was just undignified. After Quintin tried to calm him down, he just growled.
Quintin ignored it and continued to make his way through the Regigigas Building. Here, Pokétopian workers lived with their families away from the loud crowds of tourists that visited year round. Since Quintin’s father was a technician, they got to live here, too. The food was great, and the rooms were homey, so Quintin enjoyed it.
“We’re almost home, Pixel,” Quintin said when he saw the familiar elevator sign. “Then I’ll let you out.”
“Excuse me,” a man stepped out in his path. He was a tall person, with wild dark brown hair and bright blue eyes shielded by square, frame-less glasses. By his looks, he must have been in his twenties. “Are you Quintin Brown?”
“Yes,” Quintin nodded, assuming that this scientist looking man was looking for his father.
“I’m glad I finally found you,” the man reached out and shook Quintin’s free hand. “I am Benjamin Rights, scientist and researcher from Orre.”
Quintin was surprised. This man was looking for him? But why? “Er, what can I help you with?” he offered.
“I have a few questions to ask you,” Benjamin answered, fixing the loose glasses on his nose. Looking down at the growling pet carrier, he frowned. “But if this is a bad time...”
“No, that’s alright. It wouldn’t kill Pixel here to stay in the carrier for a little longer,” Quintin sat Pixel down on the floor, ignoring the complaints that ensued. “Now, what can I help you with?”
“I’ve heard that you’re acquainted with Jacob Bradley.”
Quintin tensed. Was he in trouble? Had they found out Jacob wasn’t real, and sent this man to arrest him? What should he do? “Ah, no... I don’t know him...”
Benjamin knitted his eyebrows, confused. “But, the medical personnel said you were with him the night of the attack. I just wanted to know if he was okay.”
Quintin relaxed. This person just wanted to know about the attack. “Oh, that Jacob Bradley. Sure, I know him! Sorry I was just... you know...” he coughed out a pathetic laugh. Phew! That was close, he thought.
“Um, okay...,” Benjamin nodded, still confused. “Can you tell me how he is?”
“Don’t take this the wrong way, but why do you want to know?”
“I do research on Pokemon attacks,” Benjamin dismissed.
“I see. Okay,” Quintin started, “Well, last night, he said he was really tired and sore. I was talking with him today and he said the cuts didn’t hurt, but they were really cold. He said it was like he had left ice on it too long.”
“Cold? Like ice?” Benjamin frowned thoughtfully. “I suppose that must be because Sneasel is an Ice-Type.”
“That’s what I said. K-, I mean, Jacob... was also seemed tired, as if he had no energy left.”
“That’s to be expected after attacks. Humans just aren’t use to battling like Pokemon, so we can’t recover as fast from very strong attacks. He’ll get better as he heals, but what concerns me most is why he feels cold. Is there any way I can contact Jacob?”
“Er, I don’t know about that,” Quintin shook his head. Kody ‘s secret identity might be revealed! Both he and Quintin might get into huge trouble. What was he going to do now?
“Quintin, I know Jacob might be the secretive type, but this is urgent! I don’t think the medical personnel back at the Gateway did enough analysis on this. Jacob needs better attention, and if he doesn’t get it soon he might get worse.”
“How do I know I can trust you?” Quintin was getting suspicious.
“I’m a real scientist and researcher, Mr. Brown. I’ve had medical experience, especially in this field of Pokemon attacks. I have a license, right here,” Benjamin took out a suitcase and opened it up. Shuffling through the papers, he finally pulled out a certificate and showed it to Quintin.
“I just want to help,” Benjamin added.
Quintin examined the certificate and found it to be genuine. He sighed and scratched his head. Finally, he gave in.
“Okay, I’ll take you to Jacob, but there’s something you need to know about him...”

*****

“Watching these matches brings me back to those first days as a Trainer,” Roze sighed as they watched the Trainers leave the stage. “They were the worst and best times, weren’t they?”
Kassy nodded as she remembered the difficulties she had faced when she first started. Terra and Soran were her first two she had. Soran use to be the type that ignored her every order, but as Kassy learned more she gained his trust. Her journey, however, was far from over, as she had only won a few badges.
“Here comes Amy,” Roze pointed. Kassy followed her finger as watched her young charge come out onto the stage. Amy looked for them in the crowd, and when she finally saw them, waved enthusiastically. Kassy and Roze waved back and cheered for her.
Amy’s opponent came onto the stage and faced her. Bee Girl Breanna was all dressed up in a Combee getup and had painted her face yellow. Amy couldn’t help but laugh at her.
“That’s quite the costume!” Amy said.
“Yep! I really like Combee!” Breanna smiled. She seem to be even younger that Amy herself.
“Ready to battle?” Amy smiled.
“Yep!” Breanna smiled and took out a Pokeball. “Go Combee!”
The air was soon filled with the sweet smell of honey.
Amy thought hard on which one of her party to send out, then concluded on sending out Bubbles, the Mime, Jr.
Bubbles laughed and smiled wide upon being released. He spread his arms out and danced out to the center of the arena to face the Combee.
“Combee! Use Gust!”
Combee buzzed merrily towards the opponent and flapped its small wings as hard as it could. Bubbles braced himself against the wind, but the move was only as strong as a current from a hair dryer. Bubbles unfolded his arms during the attack, and smiled big as he let the breeze ruffle his hair. Combee was getting frustrated, and tried to flap harder, but with no avail. Bubbles laughed and danced around.
“Aw, come on, Combee...,” Breanna frowned.
“Bubbles, Tickle attack!” Amy ordered her Mime, Jr.
Bubbles laughed and raced towards the Combee. Leaping up to the bee, he tickled it below the wings. At first, the Combee tried to resist, but soon it was buzzing hysterically in laughter. Slowly, it drifted down to the earth.
“Okay, Bubbles! Now use Double Slap!”
Bubbles nodded merrily, having a wonderful time, and slapped the Combee repeatedly. That attack helped recover the foe, and angered it buzzed into the air.
“Gust again, Combee!” Breanna encouraged.
With its new found fury, the Gust attack was stronger. The Combee flapped its wings so hard they were nearly invisible. The effort knocked Bubbles right off of his feet and made him tumble head over heels.
“Good job, Combee!” The Bee girl cheered.
Bubbles got back up on his feet with a frown. Now, he was serious.
“Bubbles! Confusion!” Amy called.
The Mime, Jr. smiled at this, and began to dance around, arms spread out like wings, buzzing like the Combee. When he stopped twirling, the opponent was glowing blue. Bubbles thrust his arms down, then suddenly it was thrust to the ground, landing like a limp doll. Moving his arms up again, Bubbles lifted Combee back up into the air using his Psychic powers.
Bubbles smiled wider, and threw his arms around madly in a crazy dance. The Combee was thrown everywhere: up, down, left, and right. Finally, Bubbles stopped his dance. His opponent fell to the ground, quite dizzy, and would not get back up. Amy had won this round.
“Awesome! Good job, Bubbles!” She congratulated her partner.
“Oh! Poor Combee!” Breanna sobbed. Reluctantly, she withdrew her Pokemon and sent out the next.
“Go, Combee!”
“What? Another Combee?” Amy looked taken back.
“Yep! This one’s name is Bugsby!” Breanna smiled. “My last one was named Buzz, and my next one is named Beebee!”
“All of your Pokemon are Combee?” Amy frowned.
“Is that not okay?” Breanna frowned.
“Oh, no! It’s fine. Okay, Bubbles! Let’s let another one try!”
“Okay!” Bubbles mimicked Breanna ‘s voice.
Amy returned the peppy Mime Jr, then threw out her next one.
“Go, Tiara!”
A small, yellow mouse appeared on the stage. Tiara the Pichu was ready for action.
“Okay, Bugsby! Use Sweet Scent!” Breanna ordered her other Combee. Bugsby buzzed in reply, and beat his wings rapidly. The sweet sent of honey wafted through the air, and Tiara looked dreamy as she drank it in. For the moment, she was utterly distracted.
“Bugsby, Gust!” Breanna quickly ordered, and Bugsby obeyed. Soon, Tiara was blown over from the move’s effect.
“Oh!” gasped Amy. It was then that she remembered: Combee only knew two moves: Sweet Sent, and Gust. Therefore, it wasn’t very tough. Plus, it was a Flying type, which could be an advantage for Tiara. “Tiara, use Thundershock!”
Tiara recovered from the last attack, and obeyed Amy’s command. The Electrical Mouse Pokemon began to store energy in its small cheeks, then unleashed an electrical current from them that headed straight for the foe. Combee was shocked (in more ways than one).
Yet another Combee fell to the earth, and wouldn’t get up. Tiara had won that round easily. The next promised to be no different.
“Oh, Combee!” Breanna pouted. “Poor Bugsby... Go, Combee! Beebee!”
“Okay, Tiara, let’s Charge up!” Amy encouraged her little Pichu.
