Speculate and what not on the movie mini-game we have for the games. A small bit of news, but it seems there will be a scoring system for the movies, and it will help the movies you create gain popularity. Perhaps ribbons will get a role again? Or perhaps Pokemon Oscars will be introduced? DISCUSS!

THIS...IS...POKEWOOD!

PokeWood (Pokemon+Hollywood) is a new feature to create movies - you pick a scenario (such as battling a mecha Tyranitar) and then record those battles to make the movie (including one step where you're on a green screen stage). You get to pick from an assortment of pre-programmed lines for your film. You are even encouraged to choose lines that don't match up with your movie to create gag films. The better your movie, the more points you'll get and the more popular it will be in-game.
Brycen, the Ice-type Gym Leader from Black and White, stars in PokeWood films. The father of Homika, the new Poison-type Gym Leader with the guitar, wants to be in movies too and battles Brycen in one of the screen shots. (I also see the Typhlosion...IT GIVES MORE SPECULATION.)

Two threads about the same topic starting shortly after the other? MERGE.

Anyways, I think PokéWood looks awesome.

Okay, Pokewood looks incredible. The kind of minigame I've been wanting in Pokemon for years. I'm really excited about two things in particular:

a) Pokewood seems to incorporate some form of traditional Pokemon battling, which I feel will be a really interesting way to blend minigames with the main gameplay mechanics. Also, it means we can battle robot Pokemon, and who doesn't like robot Pokemon?
b) You can choose what the player says, meaning that your PC is not silent for the first time ever! It seems that what you say will have a result on how the movie progresses which looks like another way to deepen this.

My only question is why the hell don't the actual battles look like this? Full backgrounds baby, none of that 'standing on circles' malarky! So close, yet so far.

In any case, this looks like a lot of fun, and a monumental step-up from the boring Musicals. I agree with jda95's points about incorporating battle mechanics into a mini-game and being able to fight something other than pokemon as opponents. That's something I've wanted to see the series tackle for a while now.
I hope the localisation team has a field day with those dialogue options. This looks like the kind of scenario that could provide a lot of laughs and memorable lines, which is something BW kind of lacked imo.

It's interesting to see Brycen to be in the villain getup, because I don't consider Brycen having the "villain" look. But yeah, I agree: battles in Generation 5 would look so much better in that format!

That's it for now.

Alright, Pokewood already sounds much better than the crappy Muscials ever were. I wonder if it will have the contest (Cool, Tough, Beauty, etc.) or Pokeathlon stats, (Power, Speed, Jump, etc.) or if there will be a brand-new set? This game just keeps getting better and better!

So, the little dragon face on the Green Screen wall...what is it?

I swear I've seen that logo before.

This is going to be awesome. Also, UFO!

I never, ever tried doing any Musicals (nor any Contests or Pokeathlon for that matter either in any other games) but I can already say I'll spend time on this. SO HARD. Looks like so much fun.

Pokewood looks entertaining for a little while, unless they give you insane customization which i doubt gamefreak would ever do. Looks like you're forced to do a couple of movies for the story, but as long as its not as crappy as the musicals... God, I hope I won't have to do more musicals to upgrade my trainer card this game.

Re: PokeWood Discussion Thread

This is a gigantic improvement from musicals.
If I wanted to watch little animals screw around for my amusement with little to no input, I'd rev up Nintendogs. The interactivity is what makes things interesting, and Pokewood seems to have plenty of it so I'm actually looking forward to it.
I love how it just rolls with the nonsensical lines by taking the comedy route. It's like you want to screw with the game by totally throwing the film for the lowest score, and you end up making a blockbuster instead.

My only question is why the hell don't the actual battles look like this? Full backgrounds baby, none of that 'standing on circles' malarky! So close, yet so far.
I second that, and I really hope Gen 6 does full backgrounds for everything.
It looks so much more engaging that way.

I agree so much with this. I'd do Pokemon Contests from time to time just to mix stuff up. Pokeathlon was better - by far - for me, but Musicals were just crap.
And the quote. I dunno whether we saw any actual battle pics (I'm behind the times...), but if they haven't, keep your hopes up.
That, or attempt to blackmail Game Freak or something. I dunno.

I'm still not exactly sure how these movies even work and frankly I'm not that excited at all for them, but at the least they're a welcome change over musicals, I guess. I'll try them out and stuff but I'm not exactly looking forward to them too much. I'd rather have the Pokeathelon back at the moment.

I think this is going to be at least as good as the Pokeathlon was for me. I've always hated the contests, and the musicals just had no purpose whatsoever. This looks like it has the potential to be a ton of fun, especially if they eventually provide downloadable movie scenarios for us to play with. If there are enough scenarios and enough options within the scenarios, I think this could be a really good time sink, and I could see myself just spending hours making tons of movies!

I have high hopes for this particular mini game!

My favorite gen 5 Pokemon against a giant mecha Tyranitar......life doesn't get better then this.
Tell me about it. I want a copy of B2 so I can reenact this scene, starring my beloved Golurk, Riser. He's a Musical veteran and has wonderful stage presence, so I'm sure he'll sparkle on-screen. :crush:

This looks like it could be awesome. I'm just hoping we get ribbons or some other trophy for doing this; I want my Pokemon to look like decorated generals by the time I'm done with the game. (Hey, ribbons were a way of showing my love--my Golurk ought to be covered in them as I adore him.)

Pokewood right now is sounding just as passive as Musicals, except with better things to watch than simply a Pokemon sprite bouncing back and forth.

If that's what's happening, then I can see future games where your Pokemon may actually fight non-Pokemon, like robots, controlled by the evil team.

From what I can see, I'd think this is more like contests than anything. But with the plot-irrelevancy of musicals... yet far, far more complex than anything done before.
Which I think it's great.

Pokémon fighting robots
Gen VI now please.

But now seriously... screenshots show a battle-like screen. The things here are easilly preassumable to be coded as pokémon (like the target etc). So it really wouldn't be far-fetched to think that we might have in a future either things like unique unobtainable plot pokémon as bosses or fighting entirely non-pokémon things indeed.

So many gag films. I will make them.
This is going to entertain me waaay more than it should.
