Pokken Tournament,

did anyone get it? thoughts?

I really want to get it, myself, but that involves getting a Wii U and I'm not rollin in extra cash at the moment.

I'm also a little upset that Hitmonchan wasn't included (at least yet), so here's hoping for some DLC later!

I picked it up, and have yet to face my first real battle -- currently training with Braixen to get a feel for her attack style. She's pretty fun to watch, though -- I like how most of her A button attacks can chain right into a Sunny Day boost for the next attack (Sunny Day itself can be chained for a two-stage boost, but I'm having trouble with that).

And that intro trailer. When Garchomp slices the air and ruins her stick, I keep imagining Braixen's reaction is a "you broke my stick ... NOBODY TOUCHES THE STICK!"

I stopped by my local Game Stop today to test it out (they have a demo machine up)

I played Gengar and the computer was Garchomp. The game is really smooth, a little more simple than regular Tekken (which is nice), but still plenty of complexity. Gengar played well, but I was really hoping to try Machamp and he was locked on the demo -.-

but now I'm mentally hooked, imma find a way to fund a wii u for this, I'm sure some bills can wait... right?

Okay, so apparently the two-stage boost for Braixen's Sunny Day is just a temporary attack buff, but whatever.

I took Braixen through the Ferrum Cup D-Rank and beat all opponents undefeated -- yes, I know the D rank means "AI set to easy" but still. Braixen vs. Garchomp was pretty fun.

Then that Shadow Mewtwo appeared and totally kicked my tail off. I did manage to land one or two good hits, but yeah, long way to go there.

In the meantime I tested out Pikachu, Lucario, and Sceptile in the dojo. Sceptile looks awesome, though once you see Mega Sceptile, Sceptile's normal form looks naked by comparison.

In practice, I don't quite get the 'attack triangle' pointed out (i.e. normal -> grab -> guard/counter). Yes I know they're color coded but it's not helping me.

I wonder, if they are going to work on new Pokken fighters for updates/DLC, who should be next on the roster? Absol and Luxray top my wishlist for sure. (Oh, and Hawlucha is a MUST.)

Hawlucha. For srs. I'm sure they could make an interesting combo with his Flying moves. I hope Pikachu Libre doesn't stop Hawlucha from appearing

I just played through the whole game and I wasn't expecting it to be such a walk in the park. Save for the shadow Mewtwo battles I came out undefeated. I played with Suicune (since I love it and it looks damn amazing in this game) but I don't think it is anymore OP than the rest. I think I'll try to find some strong online opponents.

I probably won't get it for a while because I don't have a Wii U. I really hope they add Mienshao in as DLC, because I really wanted it to be in the game, since most of the Pokemon in the roster don't really interest me that much.

I expected to like Weavile, but not THAT much. He's extremely fast and surprisingly technical. Since I main Pika in Smash 4, Weavile feels right at home. Lucario's still my "partner," but that's just for the leagues. Once those are done, Weavile will probably take his place, making Lucario the back-up. That said, I've only practiced with those two and Pika. Every Pokémon seems to be vastly different, even Libre, which is refreshing coming from the clone-filled Smash.

Have you all tried Weavile's Icicle Crash? There's several different things you can do with it. You can even use it as Weavile's sole projectile in Duel Phase if you're fast enough!

I figured I would main Weavile... And of course, I did. I find that I did far better with the speedy Pokemon compared to the powerhouses. I've never been exceptionally well at fighting games but I've always enjoyed them and tried to get better!

So far I really enjoy the game and the character customization, I hope they carry that over to future Pokemon games, handheld and console alike.

I've taken Sceptile out for some spins in single battles, but boy the going has been rough. Meanwhile, Braixen has qualified for Blue rank tournaments and has yet to be defeated by anything short of Shadow Mewtwo (yes I've taken a KO here and there but always rebounded or the win).

It's weird how Sceptile's Leaf Blade attack is classified as a counter (trumps normal attacks) and Giga Drain is classified as a grab (pierces guard).

I finally gave a demo of the game a try at Target...first, I have NO idea how to fight properly since I'm more used to Smash Bros., and second, my mom was watching...she didn't like me (Lucario) beating up Pikachu.

Well there's a good chance she won't like the rest of the game.

Good, there's actually a thread for this. Not that I have much I can say, but whatever.

As far as characters go, I would say my favourite of the ones I have tried is Braixen, with Chandy being a close second. Projectile spamming FTW!

Oh, and I would not be opposed if some of you were to challenge me to a match or two, it's easier to learn character matchups/is just more fun when you are playing against someone you can actually communicate with as opposed to some random Japanese person.

Okay, so I've been playing Pokken for a couple weeks now, and I just gotta say: if you "main" Braixen and all you do is spam Fire Blast in your duel phase, you should stop playing. Fo' real. Even though I main Garchomp and totally have a safe way of avoiding it.

Yeah, Fire Blast is too fun for its own good. When I play Braixen I don't "just" spam Fire Blast, I'll at least alternate it with Fire Spins and back+Y fireballs in field phase; in duel phase I focus mostly on melee attacks, with an occasional Fire Blast/Spin as distraction.

As a Garchomp main, I keep using Dig as my primary approaching tactic, even though it's easily punishable. During Field Phase, I like to Dig>jump>aerial homing. I know I can actually cancel the dig, but I don't like to do that very much since I think it puts too much endlag on Garchomp, and I have such bad timing of it I cancel right at the moment my opponent launches an attack.

Playing the demo, I'm in love. The Phase Shift system makes fighting pretty dynamic and interesting to me. The Pokemon and visuals are simply breath-taking.
