As the title suggests, what do you think is the possibility of Ash, Brock and Dawn travelling through Johto after the Sinnoh league for something similar to Battle Frontier like they went back to Kanto after the Hoenn league?

I'm hoping so aswell as the possibility of seeing May there. That would be cool.

Logically May will be done with her journey in Johto even before Ash and Dawn end their journey in Sinnoh (May is alone so nothing slow her... Ash and Dawn are together and have to spend more time to get to all the gyms and contests and they also have Brock with them and TR following them)
I want to see May but even if they'll go to Johto she won't be there anymore

They might go there if we'll get GSC remakes but I can also see them going to another journey in Sinnoh- Ash for the elite four (will be like the frontier brains) and Dawn like some speculated for contests again to have 10 ribbons for that ribbon society or whatever that is

It all depends on if we get Gen II remakes. The whole reason that they decided to place the Battle Frontier in Kanto in the anime instead of it's rightful place in Hoenn was because they needed some way to incorporate both Emerald and FR/LG into the anime. So instead of having two different story arcs, they incorporated them by making Ash travel to each Frontier Brain just like he had to when he was collecting badges for the Indigo League.

Even if BF was in Hoenn they'd make it like gyms since it was supposed to be a whole saga before the next generation
If they'd make Ash battle all the frontier brains one after another it'd be too short... also they had to have something for May since she's a heroine and not a sidekick... and she won't have anything to do if that was exactly like the games

I still don't get why everyone expects this to happen.

We're 70 episodes into Sinnoh and Ash is only on his third badge. Sinnoh is gearing up to be far longer in episode count than Hoenn was, and on top of that there is Elite 4 foreshadowing.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd far rather watch an arc with Ash challenging the Sinnoh Elite 4 + Cynthia than to bring everyone back to Johto for some reason. Ash has absolutely NOTHING to do there, whereas an Elite 4 arc is bound to be exciting.

They did it for FRLG
They might do it for GSC remake if they'll make it

Sinnoh is gearing up to be far longer in episode count than Hoenn was

You can't know that until Sinnoh is over
Stop with that already... you can't decide how long this saga will be based on the episodes between gyms 2 and 3
They can easily speed up from now (70-80 gym 4, 80-90 gym 5, 90-100 gym 6, 100-110 gym 7, 110-120 gym 8 ... Hoenn was about 130 too so it's not that huge difference if they'll do it like that)
Wait until Sinnoh is over and only than we'll know how long it was

and on top of that there is Elite 4 foreshadowing.

They can make it like BF but if they'll really want them to go to Johto they can make 10 episodes that Ash battle them at the end of Sinnoh (one after another and 2 episodes for each) than go to Johto
So you also can't say for sure we won't get Johto again

Ash has absolutely NOTHING to do there,

He also didn't have anything to do in Kanto
Like they made up a reason to go to Kanto again they can as easily make something in Johto

whereas an Elite 4 arc is bound to be exciting.

They'll just be "gym leaders" like the BF brains probably...
I don't think it'll be THAT exciting
And again they can do both if they'll really want but than they'll have to make Ash battle them one after another...

The region explored in the Battle Frontier series was not, in fact, Kanto beyond the fact that the characters decided to call it that way. There were only four occasions on which the real Kanto was referenced--Mt. Moon, Saffron City, Cycling Road and Indigo Plateau. Out of these, only Mt. Moon was revisited in such a way that made it clear it was the very same as the first Mt. Moon (Indigo Plateau was acknowledged as "bringing back memories", but that was the extent of the reminiscing).

For the most part, Battle Frontier's Kanto was purely an invention of the anime. Saying that you would like for Johto to be revisited in the same way is bizarre, because that would suggest mainly exploring locations not seen in the games, and little to nothing of the real Johto.

Logically, there is a certain gap between each Grand Festival event, and how the qualifiers fill that period is irrelevant; their quest will end in the Grand Festival in due time.

You probably meant to say that Dawn would not be able to attend the Johto Grand Festival event at the same time as May, due to the fact that May's Johto Grand Festival should take place at roughly the same time as Dawn's Sinnoh Grand Festival.

Dawn will go her own way, possibly Hoenn or Kanto, but not Johto (since the writers put May in there). Ash will go his own way as usual to the Generation V region.

I agree with Unown Lord, the Kanto region we re-explored barely had any references to the original Kanto, so why do people expect the Johto region, a saga that had far less memorable filler characters or locations, to fare any better?

I also have a feeling that the reason we went back to Kanto is its because its Ash's home region, the BF saga was meant to be a full circle journey of the anime in a way, one that could have even wrapped up Ash's arc altogether. The writers chose not to do that in the end, but that might have been what the idea behind it was, Ash coming full circle after almost 10 seasons.

The Johto saga doesn't really have that same impact on Ash, it was just the third region (after Orange) he traveled to and none of the main characters come from that region. The whole saga essentially had the least impact on Ash's journey than any of the others. What is there to re-explore there?

The least impact? Johto was probably the most important story arc of 'em all!

EDIT: For Ash's character, that is.

How did it advance the story besides with Gary becoming a researcher?

Well, it was important for Ash. Sorry, I edited the post to make that more clear.

I as gonna post a thread, but whatever...

Throughout Johto, Ash kinda converted from the moron he was in Kanto, to the more mature mentor for May he became in Hoenn. His battle skills had vastly improved, although it was arguably from his Orange Island training as well. In Kanto, he usually earned his badges through other trials, like saving Gloom from a fire or bringing back Sabrina's true self. In Johto, he had really matured. He wasn't as dense anymore, and as the series continued he had a much easier time defeating Gym Leaders. This continued throughout the Silver Conferencewas a great milestone for Ash, too, although I think it was a stupid decision to bring back his Kanto Pokémon, but he had learned from his mistakes and started out with just Pikachu when it was time to go to Hoenn, and ended up creating a great team, uninfluenced by his old Pokémon.

Meh, not the "TOTAL PROOF" I thought I would be able to come up with, but at least got something down. XD

He would get murdered if he didn't bring back teh Kanto doodz. Ash's Johto Team sucks too much.

Who cares if they do? If it would be anything like Battle Frontier, no important landmarks, characters, or anything from Johto will make a reprise. Just more original filler series. So if they do visit Johto again, they may as well call it Orange Islands III.

As fun as we find Johto, there really is nothing to do there, as said before. People keep saying the elite four, but why woudl the Shinnoh elite four be in Johto? It will probably be on Battle Island or whatever that north land is.

Nothing to do there yet. If they do finally go through with Gen II remake, there is a strong possibility that they will add on more things, just like they did with FR/LG.

It will probably be on Battle Island or whatever that north land is.

It's called the Battle Zone.

A lot of you are talking about the Elite 4, i'm just curious, not against it or anything, but what makes all you guys think that Ash will challenge the Elite 4? He never has before, again, just curious.

Lucian and Cynthia hinted they would battle Ash if he won the Sinnoh league.

but then again, what's his face from the Charizard trusting Ash ep said that the Orange League was a tournament, and it didn't turn out to be one. though that may have been a dub error.

...And that has what to do with Cynthia and Lucian?
