Possible inspiration for Paras/Parasect

Doesn't Parasect's dex entry say it's taken over by the mushroom?

Although they kiddified it a bit for Paras, since it can remove and plant the mushrooms elsewhere.

In Magical Pokemon Journey, they translated tochucaso as "winter bug summer grass", and now that name suddenly makes sense to me.

Well, all pokemon are seemed to be based off of something in the real world or history. I think it's neat, it is like it is trying to get kids to venture out and learn more about the real world counterparts by basing pokemon so closely off of legends or animals.

But how does it control the ants mind? Is it actually affecting the ant by stimulating and suppressing different parts of the brain? Or does it affect the nerves themselves affecting only it's movements?

Who's familiar with Bulbapedia's format? Maybe it should be added...

Mushrooms are just a type of fungus any way....but wow that video is incredible nature is so amazing, truth is stranger then fiction.

But it also made me laugh that thought of Paras just being a walking brain washing fungus garden

Awesome video. Ive always like Parasect (as a pokemon, not a battler) and I knew there had to be some relation to a species other than just a mushroom. NINTENDO'S MOAR CLEVER ThAN THAT!!

I actually caught on to this the first time I saw Paras. It isn't all that odd, really. The mushroom and the bug in Paras/Parasect are supposed to be symbiotes.

As for more real world counterparts, carp can actually climb waterfalls and the chinese belive it then becomes a dragon. magikarp is based off the carp (as in one of the pokedex entries it mentions that it can climb waterfalls) and gyrados is based on the dragon thing you see at chinese new years (no picture unfortunately).

A lot of people may have already seen this, but this site has details on a number of Pokemon and their possible origins. Although the part on Psyduck colud be seen as controversial...
