Potential Idea for the Board--Need Input

It's come to my attention that, while we have decent posting activity in this section, there's a distinct lack of reviewers. So I was thinking of a possible solution to that.

How would you all react to a thread for potential reviewers to advertise themselves? They'd state what types of fics they'll read, what their reviews are like, things like that, and writers would PM them with links to their fics.

Although I think, unlike the similar thread on Serebii, we'd have to institute some sort of time limit. I mean, unless the fic is five hundred chapters long, there's no reason it should take an active member months and months to get around to doing their review. And most of the fics posted here are either oneshots or have rather short chapters.

Of course, you could send them *any* of your fics that you've posted on here; no reason to fret about "bumping" on here.

So what do you think? Have any feedback you'd like to tell me about? General thoughts? Don't be shy, step up to the plate!

Well, I already told you what I thought. My worry would be the potiential for harassment would be high. If everyone could be responsible about it, it could work.

Chances are at least one person would use it to harass people.

But it most certainly could work if given a chance.

I think it would be a pretty good idea. If someone does use it as a way to harass others, the person could always report them to the admin(s) in charge of this function with the harassing comments.

Oh yes, abuse of that would be handled the same way any other abuse would be handled.

I think its a silly idea really. If people would like to rate fanfics, they can already go see some fanfics, and thus decide whether or not they wish to read and review them.

A far better idea that is likely to have been done before would to create some type of fanfic reviewers organisation. Where people that choose to can sign up for that organisation and agree to review fanfics. Thus a simple topic/post could be made where fanfic writers can post a reply and ask for someone to review their fanfics, chapters etc etc etc.

At the top of such a thread, could be those who would like to read and review fanfics. Thus the proposal that reviewers/raters could say what type of fanfic they like is a good idea. But the idea of fanfic writers then PMing people well seems stupendous.

Harassment isn't high on my list of concerns, actually. Anything can be used for harrassment, and this seems as safe as anything else.

I would like to suggest reviewers could also suggest what they review on. This would be very good because I don't want to spend valuable time ranting on and on about how awful the sentence structure is when the person wants advice on plot development.

I like the idea actually . Anything to help is better than nothing at all And PM spam is easy to delete if it does happen

That would be well. Harassment can easily be treated with an Ignore.

If we really are adding regulations to all of this, perhaps an organization is in order. I would suggest equal exchange to the point of at least contributing to the ocmmunity, if not one particular author. Before a paerson can ask for a review, he/she/it would need to show a previous review for any fiction. Needless to say, reviews from before joining the organization would be discounted.
