I'm per-ordering Pokemon X/Y and wondering if I should get the hard copy or the downloadable version. What are the pros & cons of either choice?

I haven't pre-ordered yet but I always like getting the physical copy. I like seeing my collection of games.

I just pre-ordered a physical copy yesterday, before realising that the 12th of October is a Saturday, so I won't be getting it til the Monday as we don't have a postal service on Saturday in Australia. I'm torn between crawling into a ball and crying, and smashing my head against a brick wall.

That being said, I'd buy the physical copy, like cityvillain, I prefer to keep a hard-copy of my games (I still have my original Blue cartridge). I'm not too sure what the specifics are with digital copies as I've never looked into it, but what would happen if you damaged/lost your DS? Would you have to re-purchase the game or does Nintendo allow multiple downloads to the same account? Even so, you'd still have to start again. Though I guess if you lost your DS with X/Y in it, you'd have to anyway...

I haven't pre-ordered my copy yet either. I plan to do so when I go down to GameStop for the first of the three WiFi events. I'd go with the physical copies since I don't see much of an advantage with digital copies. Plus, I personally prefer to keep a physical copy of the games I play anyway.

Iirc, digital downloads are tied to the 3DS system itself. So if anything happens to yours, I don't think much can be done about getting your game back. Then again, with a digital copy you don't have to worry about misplacing it.

I don't think the pros and cons really outweigh each other for either choice, so it's a matter of what you prefer. I'm doing physical, because every other main series game I own is physical, and I want to keep my collection looking neat.

The game can be redownloaded, however, the eShop account is tied to that exact 3DS (except for system transfers of course). In addition, any downloadable versions of games can only be played on the 3DS that downloaded them even if you copy them to another SD card using your computer. So if you lose your 3DS completely and have to get a new one you have to buy the game again. However, if your 3DS can be recovered then you can just redownload it if the data/SD card is somehow lost.

The only games that I've bought the digital versions of (that are also retail available) are Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Fire Emblem Awakening, NSMB2, and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. But I'm definitely getting physical for XY.

I pre-ordered my physical copy of X and will buy Y in the same format at a later time.

I like physical games, that way it feels more like a collection when I get them all together. Plus it's kind of nice to hold the game in your hands, y'know? :3

I preordered a physical copy for Y - but I'm picking it up not getting it sent out just to make sure I can get it that day (I'll probably go to the store as soon as they open). I might download X, but I'll probably just buy the physical copy a month or two after.

Midnight release in Aus seems unlikely, but I'd be down for one.

I've been hearing that X and Y are going to take up a Wailord-full of memory blocks, so I'd recommend going with a hard copy just to spare your system the space.

Physical copy all day, been like that since day one and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Plus like Eradia said it feels nice to have the actual game in your hands.

Physical copy pros:
Cool box comes with it, physical instruction manual
You can switch 3DS's should the need arise
Won't use up memory space on the 3DS/SD card

Digital copy pros:
You don't need to travel anywhere to pick it up
You don't need to swap 3DS Cards when switching games

EB Games is also giving this little doozy away with preordered games. It's not much but I think it's pretty cool, seeing as I keep my games on my shelf

(It's better than that lame coin that came with BW2 anyway)

I don't know if official pre-orders started yet. I would really like to not get screwed on the price.

Most (if not all?) 3DS games comes with a digital manual nowadays, so what used to be the physical manuals are now simply a folded paper to show the most important things (like controls). I never look in manuals anyway so I'm not complaining, and besides, it's better for the environment, too.

About the question, personally I'll go with physical copies over digital ones any day, and that applies for all games on any console that has digital copies. I like to be able to hold my games in my hands and look at my collection of games. They come in boxes with pretty art on too.

I almost always try to buy a physical copy for all of my games. The only time I really buy digital is when Steam is having a huge sale or I don't feel like waiting to go down to Gamestop/wait for the game to arrive in the mail. Plus, I really prefer having a box on the shelf for some reason. Just feels better, you know?

I usually go with the physical copy, but think I'd rather get it from the E-shop at midnight and play it until 6 A.M without leaving the house.

And now for a funny aside, for some reason I was thinking that this game would be coming out next month. I completely forgot that there was September in between August and October. :/

I rarely pre-order the games, but I will be getting physical copies regardless.

I pre ordered 3 hard copies. I just like the feel of the game in my hands. Including the cool box it comes in.
