Well, yes, we are a month into 2012 already, but there are still eleven left.

I'm going to make a list of "things" in the world that we know will or might happen. You're going to predict the specifics. Person at the end of the year with the most correct predictions gets lots of respect and adoration.

So:

Republican primaries
US presidential campaign
North Korea
Syria
Earthquakes in Japan?
Afghanistan
EuroZone
Famine on the African horn
London Olympics
Egyptian revolution
Libya's transitional council
Iran
Scottish independence
World economy
China
Russia

Feel free to tell me if there's anything obvious and world affecting I've missed.

Also, you get to predict if there's anything major that will happen that no-one saw coming, like the Italian boat disaster from a couple of weeks ago.

Here's my go.

Republican primaries - Romney wins, Paul and one of Gingrich/Santorum gain enough delegates to be of significance
US presidential campaign - Obama wins narrowly
North Korea - Business as usual
Syria - Civil war, though shorter than in Libya
Earthquakes in Japan? - Big ones
Afghanistan - A few countries left to take on the same/more roles
EuroZone - Becomes smaller following futile German attempts to save ruined economies
Famine on the African horn - Remains mostly unsolved
London Olympics - Goes smoothly
Egyptian revolution - Muslim Brotherhood slowly put forward their agenda, remains democratic
Libya's transitional council - Survives some tough spots, prepares for elections
Iran - Remains a non-threat, despite the warmongering talk.
Scottish independence - Movement reaches a crescendo as the vote nears
World economy - Relies on what Europe does. European consolidation helps it pick up, leaving the member states kicked out of the EuroZone floundering.
China - Economy shows increasing weaknesses
Russia - Putinland. Has to deal with increased protests, eventually wears the protestors down.
Other events - No idea. Something in India, perhaps.

How the hell can you forget Euro Cup(football)? I predict Germany or Spain winning.

In India: An anti-graft law to be passed and elections in my state.

And the world ending

Republican primaries: Romney wins, sending Gingrich over the edge and into a mental hospital, Paul runs as Third-Party Candidate

US presidential campaign: Romney narrowly wins

North Korea: Some things never change

Syria: Conflict escalates exponentially, but won't reach climax before the end of the year

Earthquakes in Japan? Minor quakes will continue, but no new major quakes

Afghanistan: Relatively quiet

EuroZone: Germany will withdraw from the EU (Gotta have at least one big, crazy one, right? If this happens, just remember I said it ;-) )

Famine on the African horn: Will be severe, but still measurably better than projected due to international aid

London Olympics: Hampered by cyber-attacks

Egyptian revolution: Unfortunately, by the end of the year, many Egyptians will be saying 'What revolution?'

Libya's transitional council: New constitution will draw elements from Sharia Law

Iran: Will continue running its mouth.

Scottish independence: Nope.

World economy: Relatively stable, neither measurably improving nor declining

China: Will increase crackdowns on Internet freedom

Russia: Nothing of international significance

Other: General Relativity will be debunked

Dragon Armor DLC for Skyrim

Dark Knight Rising nominated for Best Picture (though, of course, the awards won't be held until 2013)

A new, wildly popular sugar-substitute will be developed and begin to be incorporated into all major soda and baking brands

The 3D-Film craze will draw to a close

Sarah Palin will launch her own Talk Show

Sarah Palin's new Talk Show will air on the Oprah Winfrey Network (separated from the previous prediction due to the unlikeliness of this part actually occurring)

A class-action suit will be filed by the clinically obese against Walmart Stores, Inc. for making Twinkies high-calorie snacks so affordable; only to be perpetually stalled in the court system

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will break up, with Pitt returning to Jennifer Aniston and Jolie hooking up with someone we've never heard of

Republican primaries - Romney wins in a landslide, riding his momentum from Florida.
US presidential campaign - Absolutely brutal, bitter division between the two sides. Romney ends up defeating Obama by a slight margin
North Korea - Nothing new. Our friends the Kim Jong family stay in power. They're still crazy.
Syria - someone does something stupid and the war erupts in the latter half of the year
Earthquakes in Japan? - no
Afghanistan - US Forces remain in place
EuroZone - Completely fractures. France and Germany bail.
Famine on the African horn - business as usual
London Olympics - USA wins the most golds and most medals overall, narrowly beating out China
Egyptian revolution - Turns out even worse than it was beforehand when a brutal and oppressive Islamic regime takes over.
Libya's transitional council - Same story as in Egypt.
Iran - Business as usual. Iran hates Israel and Israel hates Iran. They both yell at each other but nothing happens.
Scottish independence - nope
World economy - Continues to be mostly stagnant. Don't hope for an upturn until 2014.
China - Business as usual. Continued economic growth, coming closer to passing the US as the most dominant economy.
Russia - Putin keeps his hold on the nation.

Other random predictions:

New York Giants win Sunday's Super Bowl
Manchester United wins the Premier League title
Tiger Woods wins the Masters and US Open titles

The world doesn't end. It just comes damn close.

In the 2012 Presidential Election, there is going to be a huge scandal involving Super PACs and general fundraising efforts. It could turn the tide of the election depending on the details.

There will be at least 1,000,000,000 mentions of the Mayans this year.

Republican primaries - Romney wins, Gingrich maybe runs in 2016, Paul retires.
US presidential campaign - Obama wins.
North Korea - The government realizes the error of their ways and embraces democracy and capitalism. Jklol, nothing changes.
Syria - No war.
Earthquakes in Japan? - Small ones, just like we get everywhere.
Afghanistan - Same deal, no troop withdraw yet.
EuroZone - Stays intact
Famine on the African horn - Has always been there to some extent, will always be there to some extent.
London Olympics - Michael Phelps will be extremely sexy.
Egyptian revolution - Another oppressive theocracy will be established, further reducing the integrity of the idea of revolution.
Libya's transitional council - It will give way to a democratic government, which will then elect another oppressive theocracy, further reducing the integrity of the idea of revolution.
Iran - Will continue to push the US's buttons, and the US will continue to push Iran's buttons.
Scottish independence - no
World economy - Picks up a little I guess.
China - Puts some astronauts on their new space station. At least one satellite launch failure, but no manned launch failures or casualties.
Russia - No soyuz failures, keeping the US complacent with Russian transport to the ISS for the time being.

London Olympics - Michael Phelps will be extremely sexy.
Isn't predicting the obvious cheating? :-/

There's no rule against it, how could it be cheating?
I suppose it isn't, but since we're competing for who gets the most predictions right in order to receive "lots of respect and adoration," I think it goes against the spirit of the thing. :p

But if that's what we're doing, then I predict: Anne Hathaway will be sexy as all-get-out in The Dark Knight Rises.

Canada develops a new super weapon and power.
Canada wins the most gold medals.
Canada becomes the new super power and raise global economy.

Canada develops a new super weapon and power.
Canada wins the most gold medals.
Canada becomes the new super power and raise global economy.

If this turns out to be true, not only will you have my respect and adoration, but I will send you the USD equivalent to 100 Canadian dollars.

Republican primaries- Gingrich wins, Paul gives up
US presidential campaign-
Gingrich becomes president (You mad Romney?)
North Korea-
Who cares, they suck
Syria-
War begins in the summer
Earthquakes in Japan?-
Small ones
Afghanistan-
Y U NO WITHDRAW US TROOPS!?
EuroZone-
Stays intact
Famine on the African horn-
Nothing new happens
London Olympics-
Michael Phelps will still be sexy
Egyptian revolution-
It only gets worse...
Libya's transitional council-
Same as Egypt, but even WORSE
Iran-
Continues to flame the US and Isreal, and vice versa, probably the biggest flame war outside the internet
Scottish independence- Not gonna happen
World economy-
Attempts and fails to improve
China-
Internet censorship becomes worse and worse to the point where there is no contact with the rest of the world, their economy is slowly declining as we speak.
Russia-
Nothing special

In other news, Fidel Castro dies sometime this year of old age (seriously, he's like 100 years old by now), beginning a new age in Cuba, and the New York Giants win the Super Bowl (screw you Jersey!)

Republican primaries - Dunno
US presidential campaign - Ron Paul wins, world peace. Or Obama or a Republican that isnt Ron Paul wins, invades Iran, Syria and Iceland
North Korea - Kim Jong un gets the propaganda machine to make a sitcom about him. Ratings hit among the brainwashed population.
Syria - Civil war
Earthquakes in Japan? - Dunno
Afghanistan - Status Quo
EuroZone - Still together
Famine on the African horn - Status Quo
London Olympics - Opening ceremony probably won't top the Beijing one.
Egyptian revolution - still unresolved?
Libya's transitional council - Stops being transitional
Iran - Unsuccessfuly invaded, blames random things on Israel
Scottish independence - Yes, but the referendum isnt until 2014...
World economy - Dunno
China - More panda diplomacy
Russia - Preparing for 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics

Some others I added:

Palestine UN application - Results in favour will basically be like this map, but US uses veto
Falklands - Argentina and UK argue more over Falklands oil
India - Restrictions on carrying phones in parliament, ect. are imposed on ministers after recent assembly session scandal
Eurovision - Jedward represent Ireland, Romania wins with the Cheeky Girls. Armenia and Azerbaijan resume war over Eurovision results
Somali Civil War - Status Quo

A couple of there are just for fun bear in mind.

Republican primaries: Santorum narrowly beats Romney to win the Republican nomination

US presidential campaign: Santorum is beaten by President Obama

North Korea: Kim Jong-Un leaves North Korea as is

Syria: President Assad is forced to resign, and rebellion is over

Earthquakes in Japan?: Most likely gonna be in the Pacific Northwest instead

Afghanistan: US troops withdraw

EuroZone: More economic problems

Famine on the African horn: I dunno, food aid?

London Olympics: Michael Phelps shines again, as well as Usain Bolt

Egyptian revolution: Finally turned Egypt into a democracy

Libya's transitional council: Still deciding on a leader

Iran: Bombed by Israel, nuclear program goes down the toilet

Scottish independence: No

World economy: Economy improves, gas prices go back down, more jobs in the US

China: Same

Russia: Protests caused by the elections continue

I'll add:
Kony 2012: He will be arrested and all the kids will be freed

Republican primaries: Romney wins, Paul still runs as independent.
US presidential campaign: Romney wins in an extremely narrow race.
North Korea: Same as usual.
Syria: Protests continue, basically same situation as Libya last year.
Earthquakes in Japan: Small ones. (?)
Afghanistan: No withdrawal.
EuroZone: Starts to collapse, despite many efforts. No crash in sight though.
Famine on the African horn: Not improving much.
London Olympics: Goes fine. Michael Phelps does well, but not as well as in 2008.
Egyptian revolution: First steps toward democracy, although still in limbo.
Libya's transitional council: See Egypt, only conditions are slightly worse, democracy is further away.
Iran: Still all talk.
Scottish independence: Nope.
World economy: Gets better, but not by much.
China: Economy starts to grow at a faster rate.
Russia: Stays the same.

Republican primaries: Romney wins, Paul still runs as independent.
That's highly unlikely (the part about Paul still running), as indicated by the fact that he didn't run as a third party candidate last Presidential election. Also, if he ran third party, all he'd be doing would be taking votes away from the Republican which is the exact opposite of what he'd want.

Romney wins the primaries.
Obama will be reelected.
Russia will stay cold.
Lavos will awaken and destroy us all.

Here's a prediction... the economy will recover and people will attribute the economy's recovery with something Obama did and it will help Obama to get votes.

Romney wins the Republican primaries by a significant margin, Gingrich runs again in 2016. Santorum fails miserably.
Obama is reelected, but not by much.
Japan has another earthquake in the early 7 magnitude range.
There'll be some kind of minor controversy in the London Olympics, most likely over something 'not being PC'.
North Korea is North Korea.
Scottish independence doesn't happen, despite a decent amount of support.
World economy gets a little better, though not by much and possibly not for long.

And to whoever said Sarah Palin will get her own talk show, I can definitely see that happening. People will watch it for the comedy.
