A pregnant woman was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when she slammed her car head-on into an elderly couple's vehicle last year, Suffolk County prosecutors said Thursday.

29-year-old Jennifer Jorgensen was arrested Wednesday night on a warrant from a grand jury indictment charging her with second-degree manslaughter, aggravated vehicular homicide, driving while under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child, among other charges.

Jorgensen, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the May 30, 2008 crash, pleaded not guilty to the charges in court Thursday. Her baby, born through emergency Caesarean-section, died a week after the crash.

Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Laura Newcombe said Jorgensen's blood-alcohol content was .06 percent and she was high on Clonazapam, an anti-anxiety medication. Her deceased baby tested positive for alcohol and marijuana, she said.

Jorgensen was apparently also chatting on her cell phone while she was traveling east in a westbound lane on Whiskey Road in Ridge, driving at 45 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The elderly couple inside the vehicle Jorgensen collided with - Robert Kelly, 74 and his wife Mary Kelly, 70, of Ridge - died in the crash.

Jorgensen is being released without bail and is due back in court July 30.

Three words: Wow, just wow. What woman, who's pregnant even, thinks about getting high and drunk, then driving!? This is just... comepletly dumb... -.-;;
 
Sure, terrible mistake. Really, really awful. But with all the media attention it's getting the baby is going to hear about it when it is old enough. No one wants the thing they are most known for being that their mom was in a drunk driving accident while she was pregnant with you. >_>

What a terrible thing to happen...that woman needs to be brought to justice to the full extent of the law.
 
Wow, this makes me kind of sad. I mean, who goes drinking, gets high, drives a car, and all while pregnant?!?! That poor kid too, that's just as bad as an abortion. I know that she must have lost control at some point, but she has to have started somewhere. I hope this lady isn't given any leeway when it comes to her sentence.
 
Let me get this straight. This lady gerts pregenant, speeds, drives drunk and high(while having the fortitude to talk on a cell phone) and THEN she murders 2 people.

She should be in jail for quite some time. What possesed her to have a baby if she was going to drink.

No, sadly it won't. Probably better for the baby, really. Just a shame an innocent life had to leave this earth that way.
 
...How sad is it that the first thing that popped into my mind was "she thought this baby might have somehow ruined her life so she decided 'it can't get any worse', thus inducing the drinking and getting high?"
 
I like usually say, there are some fools who don't deserve children..

I just hate people who drink and drive, and because this woman did, three innocent people died. :mad:
 
Good freaking heavens. My already low opinion of humanity just dropped by 50 points. May that woman sit in a jail cell for a very long time. She most certainly deserves it.
 
Now her baby is going to be mentally retarded, since she drank alcohol. Way to go, woman. I hope she rots in hell for this.
