Okay, so I'm no beginner.
I know -how- to go about doing it...but I'm just not getting anywhere.
Here's my situation;

Cresselia is running around with me chasing it, so I'm at that stage where it's left the moon island and is running away from me when I get close.

I've lowered its HP down to about 1, and it's paralyzed (thanks to my Luxray) so it's weak and has a disadvantage. However, every single Pokeball I throw at it, it always manages to break free without fail.

So I got the idea of trying to make it fall asleep - I got hold of an Eevee, evolved it into a Leafeon and it learned Grass Whistle (grass-type move, sends foe into sleep obviously).
The thing is, when the attack doesn't miss, it 'fails' to work.
I trained my Leafeon more, thinking maybe it wasn't strong enough or fast enough (Cresselia is Lv. 50, Leafeon currently Lv. 80), but it still fails or misses.

If I straight-out use a Pokeball (any one) it breaks free every single time.
I've tried Dusk Balls at night, Ultra Balls, normal Poke Balls, Net Balls, Nest Balls, Premier Balls, Quick Balls and Heal Balls - believe me, I've been trying for weeks.

Of course, with Cresselia, it's timid so you only get one chance to try one thing before it flees and you have to go find it again.

SO, questions.
1) Why is my Leafeon's 'Grass Whistle' failing repeatedly?
2) Why when it's weak as it can be -and- Paralysed does Cresselia still refuse to stay put in a Pokeball?

Help?! ^.^;;;

Note: I have no Master Balls.

1. This really could have gone in the Simple Questions thread.

2. Pokeballs have the lowest capture rating. That's one of your problems.

3. You can't have a Pokemon be Asleep AND Paralyzed. Hence why Grasswhistle is failing.

4. It's a legendary. It naturally has a very low capture rate, meaning what that what you're experiencing isn't abnormal. Just keep trying. Stock up on Quick Balls and make sure that you use them on the first turn of the battle. Dusk Balls help, too, if you're battling it at night. Stick to those two and Ultra Balls. Nothing else will give you as good a chance. Sticking to those three will maximize your odds, but won't guarantee it. Luck is the only thing you have left.

1. I apologize for that...

2. How else are you supposed to catch a Pokemon? :confused:

3. Oh I see...thanks for clearing that up XD

4. Ah I see...so just keep trying? Alright, thank you :)

if you still have no luck use a high leveled Wobbefett, cresselia cant flee,and lob pokeballs as if your life depended on it

Now -that- is a brilliant idea!
With it not being able to run off every 5 seconds it would be less time consuming too XD
Thank you :D

And nope, no Master Ball.

GrassWhistle's accuracy also is pretty bad, so..

Whoo, good luck with that.
Yeah... Wobbuffet's probably your best bet here.

Just be careful that... Cresselia doesn't run out of PP with all her moves. >_>

If you don't have Wobbuffet in your team then you could also make use of either Mean Look, Spider Web or Block! All these moves achieve the same exact goal, which is preventing your prey from running away.

Oh I would prepare by buying about 80 Ultra Balls (you will be requiring a huge amount) and lob them at her as soon as she is "statused" and left with 1 hp. I would only put her to sleep and forget about paralysis, in my mind the better status to use. Oh and make use of False Swipe to get her hp to 1, if you aren't already.

Good Luck!

Do not use Ultra Balls. Dusk Balls are cheaper and much more effective - manipulate your DS's internal clock as required.

If you have a fast Pokemon with Block or Mean Look (a Golbat or Crobat is good) use that and continue chucking Ultra Balls at it. Mean Look will wear off if the user faints, so heal as necessary. That's what I did with Mesprit, so I think it will work well for Cresselia too.

^ agreed. Get a high-level Crobat with Mean Look and keep chucking Ultra Balls. The more HP Crobat has, the better.

Save often!!! Legendaries tend to run out of PP and Struggle themselves into fainting (at least that's my experience).

Here's why GrassWhistle isn't working: Cresselia is already paralyzed.

There are two existing levels of Status Conditions; Special and Semi-Special.

Special Conditions are major status afflictions, known as Sleep, Poison, Burn, Paralyze, and Freeze. You can't combine two Special Conditions. (Which is to say, you can't have a single opponent who is both Sleeping and Paralyzed at the same time.) You know these statuses are in effect when you see a little icon next to the Pokemon's HP bar. (SLP, PSN, BRN, PRZ, FRZ)

Semi-Special Conditions are "lesser" status conditions, like Confusion and Attraction.

While you cannot combine two Special Conditions, you CAN combine Semi-Special Conditions, either with each other or with Special Conditions.

So, since your Cresselia is already Paralyzed, you can only try to Attract and/or Confuse it now. If I were you, I'd shoot for Attraction, since you run the risk of having her knock herself out in confusion.

Trust me, I've been trying a lot, too.

But, have you tried to prevent her from fleeing?

There are abilities and moves which prevent her from escaping.

* Wobbuffet with Shadow Tag
* Bastiodon/Brongzong/Probopass/Snorlax/Sudowoodo/Tangrowth with Block
* Crobat/Dusclops/Dusknoir/Jynx/Misdreavus/Sableye/Umbreon with Mean Look
* Ariados with Spider Web

If you prevent Cresselia's escape, you'll have a better time trying to catch her, because you can throw multiple balls.

The thing about using Block, Spider Web and Mean Look is that you need a Pokemon who is faster than Cresselia, otherwise she'll run before you can pull off the move. I trained a Crobat to learn Mean Look, and at lv.51, it has 151 Speed. (I had to use some Carbos on it.) And with Wobbuffet, it needs to be at a high enough level so that it can withstand Cresselia's attacks.

After you use Block or Mean Look, you can't switch Pokemon. (I don't know if this is the case with Spider Web). Otherwise, Cresselia will be freed from the move and will flee.

You should also bring several Super or Hyper Potions with you, as your Pokemon will lose HP when Cresselia uses Aurora Beam, Slash and Future Sight.

One more thing: SAVE YOUR GAME BEFORE YOU ENTER INTO BATTLE WITH CRESSELIA. If you use the strategy I suggested, it's always possible that Cresselia will run out of PP and Struggle herself into fainting, especially if you're using a Pokemon with the Pressure Ability.

I hope this helps you!
