For some strange reason, this forum runs into problems when displaying Japanese characters, at least when I view it. After twenty or so consecutive characters, there is suddenly a gap in the characters, that is just a question mark.

What is the problem?

The software has issues with it, we know. I don't know any specifics about it so Archaic might have to tell you.

It's something to do with the encoding of characters. Seems to be a native vB3 bug, hopefully resolved in vB4. It's also the same thing which causes things to screw up when Japanese text is quoted.

Another note about that, when is the upgrade to vB4 planned? The staff have been talking about it for more than three months now.

The problem is the vBulletin long word splitter which doesn't understand multibyte characters, actually.

And here that's what I thought it was.

Although it's strange that Japanese characters seem to take up three bytes - It's actually after 16 characters that the Japanese gets screwed up, and for ASCII characters it's normally 50.
