So an Oak appears in the latest SM video, so it means one of three things:
1. Oak has a sibling (Possibly a twin)
2. It's Oak's son (And Blue's dad)
3. SM takes place before any other main series game (Wouldn't make any sense though, since Oak only knew of Kanto Pokémon in RBGY)

Which one do you think it is? I hope it's his son, since we don't usually get to see the dads of rivals/main characters.

Personally I don't think it's any of these. I feel like it's probably his cousin, or something. Definitely not him, though. No one can tan that much, can they?

Marlon can. ;)

i'm confused, is there any particular reason it couldn't be just Professor Samuel Oak?
Because he'd have more than 151 entries and include Kalos Pokémon to the Pokédex in RGBY.

Sun and Moon take place after XY, as evidenced by Dexio alluding to the five Kalos trainers.

The new Oak doesn't look older than the Professor Oak that we know from the original games, and it's probably been at least 13 years since the Generation I story. It would be weird for Oak to get longer hair in the future, leaving aside the tan. My bet is a younger brother.

his hair has fully greyed though. and i mean, Cynthia didn't age much between DPPt and BW/BW2, yet Caitlin did. Oak barely aged from FRLG to HGSS! it seems a bit weird from them to spontaneously introduce this new younger brother or other Oak twenty years down the line, especially when he's never been hinted to have siblings.

That is not professor Oak. That is someone else with Oak as his name.

His hair was gray to begin with.

Caitlin was 14 in Generation IV, while Cynthia was probably at least 10 years older. If the time gap was only around 5 years, there is little reason why a sprite should have shown any aging for Cynthia.

And? It was only 3 years.

They never hinted at regional variants as a far-reaching phenomenon, and yet here we are. Compared to that, Oak's sibling is not that noteworthy to be referenced ahead of time. There is only so much the games need to tell us about the Pokemon world in a given generation.

Prof. Rowan was introduced as Prof. Oak's senior 10 years after the fact. A younger sibling or a son being introduced 20 years "too late" would be a similar situation.

Just checked and the kaji that appears in the trailer is オーキド which is literally Prof. Oak's name in Japanese, so this is the one and only Professor Oak
It's merely his last name. There is no professor title in that trailer.

Professor Oak is different to the character in the trailer. That is totally a different character. I don't buy it for a second.

Why pull a discount Oak instead of the actual Oak? It's the 20th anniversary, no? Probably putting the Oak's on vacation scenario, enjoying the sun, looking at all the ne-I mean regional Pokemon. Good to see he's enjoying the tropical sun.

If it's not, then that's kind of lame, personally.
