Professor Oak's Challenge: Gens 3-5

Got a Skitty. No Moon Stone means we won't be seeing her again for a while.
Skitty

58/636 obtained, 24 more in this section.

A bit later, Zigzagoon evolved to Linoone; one more level and it can start picking up Rare Candies.
Linoone

59/636 obtained, 23 more in this section.

After that, an Abra finally decided to stay put in my ball.
Abra

60/636 obtained, 22 more in this section.

Wurmple has evolved to Cascoon.

Cascoon

61/636 obtained, 21 more in this section.

I head back to the forest to catch the other cocoon, Silcoon.
Silcoon

62/636 obtained, 20 more in this section.

Lotad has evolved to Lombre. No Water Stone yet, so it's just gonna sit in the box.
Lombre

65/636 obtained, 17 more in this section.

As a side note, i just noticed a minor error i made when counting the amount of pokemon available before Roark in gen 4. I had not considered that Bidoof learns Headbutt, and i can thus get some extra encounters by trading it to Soul Silver. This didn't give that section more pokemon than Emerald pre-Roxanne though, so it doesn't affect anything meaningful.

Dots the Seedot has evolved into Nuzleaf. No Leaf Stone means his disobedient ass can go sit in the box.
Nuzleaf

67/636 obtained, 15 more in this section.

Following that, Abra evolves to Kadabra; no more switch training for this section.
Kadabra

68/636 obtained, 14 more in this section.

Back from vacation with a minor rule change; since the Switch FRLG rereleases include events not present in the originals, yet are still unmistakably gen 3 games, i will be playing those as part of this challenge. I have not yet started either FireRed or LeafGreen, so this doesn't retcon anything i've done. The total amount of pokemon available will thus go up by one; Deoxys brings it up to 637. Ho-Oh and Lugia are also obtainable through an event, but these are already in the challenge through HGSS. This does mean that FRLG will not be able to connect to RSE nor transfer to gen 4.

Taillow has just evolved to Swellow.
Swellow

76/637 obtained, 6 more in this section.

And Shroomish is now Breloom.
Breloom

77/637 obtained, 5 more in this section.

We've reached the point where the rare candies Linoone found will get us the rest of the way. As such, we evolve Loudred to Exploud
Exploud

80/637 obtained, 2 more in this section.

Vigoroth into Slaking
Slaking

81/637 obtained, 1 more in this section.

And Kirlia to Gardevoir.
Gardevoir

82/637 obtained, nothing more in this section.

Thus, Sara's adventures on Route 116 come to a close. Let's see which section is next:

Ruby pre-Roxanne: 8 pokemon available
Sapphire pre-Roxanne: 8
Emerald pre-Wattson (Sara): 20
FR pre-Brock: 9
LG pre-Brock: 9
Diamond pre-Roark: 31
Pearl pre-Roark: 31
Platinum pre-Roark: 33
HG pre-Falkner: 10
SS pre-Bugsy (Britney): 20
Black pre-Striaton: 11
White pre-Striaton: 11
Black 2 pre-Cheren: 23
White 2 pre-Cheren: 23

Looks like we'll be playing Platinum next. We start a new game and pick a random name for our character; our Platinum character will be named Kelli. We go through the beginning stuff and pick our starter, Turtwig.
Turtwig

83/637 obtained, 32 more in this section.

We proceed with the story to Sandgem town where we buy Poke Balls; we'll start using those next time.

We head back to Littleroot; along the way, we catch Kricketot. I genuinely thought this thing only appears in the mornings, but apparently it appears at night too. nice.

I speak to my mom and head back to Sandgem, though on the way i catch Starly

and Bidoof.
Bidoof

86/637 obtained, 29 more in this section.

I head north of Sandgem, where Lucas teaches me how to catch a pokemon. I've already caught three, but i think i'll put this into practice and catch Shinx.
Shinx

87/637 obtained, 28 more in this section.

I make my way to Jubilife, meet my all-time favourite pokemon character (Looker) and head west to pick up the Old Rod and fish up Magikarp.
Magikarp

88/637 obtained, 27 more in this section.

I should address a mistake i've made. I did not realise Wurmple was available in tis section of Platinum. This, combined with the extra mons you get from trading Headbutt Bibarel over to SoulSilver, would have meant this section has more pokemo than the first section of Emerald, and i should thus have done it first. No going back now though.

I progress north of Jubilife, and catch a Budew there.

Budew

89/637 obtained, 26 more in this section.

I next head into the Ravaged Path, where i catch Psyduck.
Psyduck

90/637 obtained, 25 more in this section.

We then head east and catch Abra. He won't be added to the counter since Sara caught one in Emerald, but we still need one for later.

We reach Oreburgh and head north, where we catch Machop.
Machop

91/637 obtained, 24 more in this section.

And Ponyta.
Ponyta

92/637 obtained, 23 more in this section.

I clear out the trainers in the mines and the gym, then it's time for the grind.

Bidoof has learned Headbutt, so we can now evolve him to Bibarel.
Bibarel

93/637 obtained, 22 more in this section.

Now it's time to contact our friend Britney in Soul Silver. I trade Bibarel over, and while i'm trading, i also evolve Graveler to Golem

94/637 obtained, 21 more in this section.

and Haunter to Gengar.
Gengar

95/637 obtained, 20 more in this section.

With Bibarel in Soul Silver, we can start headbutting trees. We find Exeggcute

96/637 obtained, 19 more in this section.

And Pineco
Pineco

97/637 obtained, 18 more in this section.

And Heracross.
Heracross

98/637 obtained, 17 more in this section.

and finally Aipom.
Aipom

99/637 obtained, 16 more in this section.

It's more convenient to do all my grinding in one game, so Pineco and Aipom will be sent over to Kelli in Platinum.
