Hi everyone. Sort of new to this part of the forum.

Anyway I currently have a fic in progress for Summer and I'm just thinking do I need a prologue/

First of all I don't even think I know what to write in a prologue and what's it all about. Is it really that important?

Any suggestion or answers if you have to include a prologue?

(Little statements I put here and there so don't worry about the last sentence)

Hello, MMQ, good to see you around here.

No, you don't need a prologue if you don't want one. You can start with either a prologue or just the first chapter.

Writing a prologue is just like writing a regular chapter and it's really up to the author what the difference between it and a standard first chapter is but here is how I would define it:

The first chapter would usually concern the characters and events who are going to be the main characters and events throughout the majority of the story. A prologue, on the other hand, would usually be concerned with characters and events that aren't directly related to the beginning of the story but are either background to the story or something that is going to be developed on later.

I hope this was helpful.

Thank you

I really appreciate that because I was really not wanting to do a prologue but I've decided since there are bits in the story that people might not understand, I'd write a prolouge mentioning the main things which make the story background understanding more easier.

I agree with pretty much what Gastly's Mama said. A Prologue works like an introduction, and it just serves to give background of the story.
