My senior prom is tonight, and i'm not going. i'm actually feeling good about myself that i'm not going, not all pathetic and regretful like people keep telling me i will be.

so my question is this: did any of you go/are going/will go to your proms? why or why not? and do you regret your decision?

No. I'm not even sure we had a prom (

), and if we did, it would have been too much of a hassle and I'm not exactly a social person anyway. No, I don't regret it.

I went to my prom, just because, and it was pretty boring. It was on a boat so we couldn't leave until it was over, the food sucked, had no date and didn't want to dance to the crappy music. Got lots of compliments on my dress though, since it was a medieval style princess dress. Mostly spent the time watching people look silly and chatting with my teachers.

No regrets on going, but I don't think I would have regretted not going either.

I'll be going to my prom in November. Though, strictly speaking, we have to call it a formal because the acting principal said so, and he's on a power trip. I'm excited about it, and if worst comes to worst, it'll be a chance for my friends and I to hang out, all dressed up.

I'm more excited about the after-party though, that's gonna be fun.

Hey, my Grad dance is tonight at 6:30!

I will go because I want to listen to music.

I had the opportunity to go to two junior proms and two senior proms due to dating an upperclassman, but neither of us wanted to go, so we didn't. What a waste of money.

Proms are an absolute fiasco around these parts. <__<
I never go and am absolutely grateful I didn't the next day.

I've got my prom coming up for all of us who are finishing GCSEs but personally I don't want to go as it's not my scene so I actually had to lie to my friends by saying that I missed the date to pay for it. Quite annoying when they are all discussing what to wear and what to go in. Had to laugh though when they moaned about not having the money to hire a limo despite 14 of them going.

I didn't go to my prom. I don't really regret it either. The tickets were way too expensive. It was also a contest to see who had the best suit and dress. It's stupid.. I spent the night playing videogames and having fun at home rather than being bored at a hotel and then a boat..

I never went to prom, and I don't regret not going. I just didn't really see much of a point in it. I'd rather spend my free time doing something I enjoy. Additionally, I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a dress, shoes, etc.

Yea that's another reason. I didn't wanna spend money on a new suit which would have cost me over $500 and then the shoes and the tickets and what not.

I didn't go to my senior prom, either. A friend of mine had gotten engaged around the same time, and she wanted me to be a bridesmaid. I figured I'd spend the money on her wedding instead of a school dance.

Looks like I'll be the voice of dissent...

So far Barb's reason seems like the only one in which I wouldn't regret not going.

Having a date is way overrated anyway, by the time you get there no one really cares anymore.

I missed my junior prom because I was away on a trip, but my senior prom was fun, I definitely would have regretted not going even without a date. Also last year for my year in Israel we had one and that was the best night ever (and not for reasons you think, nothing like that happened).

Anyone who refuses to go to prom solely because of a lack of a date, can't be more of a pussy than that.

I never went to my high school prom. One of my friend was like, "Why didn't you go? It's a once in a lifetime thing!" I'm pretty much went "so?" Yeah, I did not regret going to my prom one bit. I did not have anyone special to go with and I'm pretty much the lone wolf type so I thought why bother. Yeah, my friend made a comment about "just socializing" but seriously, I could that anywhere.

No prom for me and no regrets not going to one.

Meh, now that I think about it it's actually not that surprising that the average person on the internet thinks like that and everyone who replied to this thread probably feels good about themselves and thinks they are "not alone" in that sense, but if that's the case I wouldn't let it get to your head, because I'm almost certain at least one of you who claims that they are proud they didn't go, has it actually eating them inside.
