It's no prequelm but it is similar to Alien. Ridley Scott said he had enough with the xenomorphs, and we will see what happens next, when the movie comes out.

It may not have the xenomorphs in the trailer, but it has the derelict spacecraft which housed the xenomorph eggs. The film is supposed to determine the origins of said ship, the space jockey, and possibly the xenomorphs.

EDIT: Scott said there won't be any xenomorphs in the film. But the lack of the iconic monsters doesn't prevent it from being a prequel, so long as it has the space jockey ship.
