Yo, okay, if you've noticed, I've been a lot less active recently. I posted a quick "i won't be as active for awhile" note in the MOD forum, but this is really something I realized I need to share with the whole board, and it has a sort of moral message in it, which is why I called this a public service announcement.

My uncle died Wednedsay night--he committed suicide. None of my family members saw it coming; we were all absolutely floored. But we're working to get over all of that stuff--it's a hard, slow process, but it does work. It'll be quite some time before I'm active here again; I've been at my aunt's/cousin's for almost every waking hour that I'm not at work or school.

The public-service part comes in saying that if you've got someone who's always a little bit down or otherwise...kind of depressed, even if it doesn't seem serious, make sure they get help. Because this doesn't need to happen to any other families. There shouldn't be any more 47-year-old widows with kids aged 9 and 13 who lose their dad because he couldn't take it anymore. So I'm sort of tasking everyone here with keeping an eye out, and being vigilant. Just be supportive of your friends and family and help them work through their probelms--don't leave them hung out to dry, on their own. That's not good, it's not safe.

God bless.

I am sorry for your family's loss. You should take as much time as you need to recover and help your family do the same.

It's events like these that really make us pause and try to really notice what is going on around us.

I also agree with argy's words. I'm sorry for your loss and I send my condolences.

...wow.

All I can express is my sympathy and extend my wishes of good fortune to you and your family.

Suicide? Now that is something to be shocked by. I extend my sympathy to your late uncle's family... tragic, how people can become so depressed as to commit suicide, and not to have had their depression noticed by those around them.

Shit, Ev, I had no idea. And there I was, bothering you about DG ideas...sorry, man.

Argy summed everyone's feelings up very nicely, I think. My sympathy to you and your family.

I'm so sorry, evkl. I wish there was something I could really do or say, but... my heart go out to you and your family. <=(

This is why I hate those who commit suicide. I'm sorry for the damage this caused your family. :<

Yeah, Kadabra--you pretty much hit a lot of the emotion on the head. There's a lot of anger floating around--a lot, because people feel betrayed. And that's why I really want people to be heads-up with their friends and family so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Usually, death is associated with sadness and grief; suicide with anger, sadness, grief and often rage. You can't say, "It was [insert disease here]" or "It was a bad accident." With suicide, there's always that huge question of "Why?" that hangs over everyone's head for what seems like eons.

I actually realized the same thing. Four years ago there was a bus crash killing four people from my school, and it was a huge deal for the paper and news and the school. Also, another student died of cancer, and the ENTIRE SCHOOL had a moment of silence for her, even people who didn't know she existed. And then, later, someone suicided, and that just passed. Sure, a few people talked about it here and there. However, I remember searching for any article or tribute of some sort to hear more details, but found NOTHING. I can understand the bus being too big to compare, but the fact that the cancer person had much more local public media attention than the suicider, that just shows it. If anything, it should have been the othr way around, because cancer's a common natural thing, while suicide is an enigma.

Anyway, what everyone else said.
