I'm so sorry if this has been brought up before..

This has been bothering me for quite some time now.Why is it that there is not even one pure flying type in pokemon? (Not counting Arceus with the sky plate). Does anyone know? also,Do you think that there will finally be some pure flying types in this Gen?
Hmmmm, and why we do not even have flying as the primary type anyway?
One more thing,if we do get this type.what would its weakness, effectiveness and resistance be?

Help me understand;-) .

I was wondering when this thread would pop up. It hasn't been done this generation, but has with all the past ones.

Like I have said in the past, it's pretty clear that since Day 1, the makers of the games have treated Flying differently than other types. It's meant to be a second-class citizen of types. Unlike the other 16 types, no pokemon has it as its primary type.

Look at how other types are treated. If a pokemon is a fighter, and has no special attributes other than the fact that it likes to use punching/kicking/martial arts moves, then it's a pure fighting type. However, if a pokemon has no special attributes outside of its ability to fly, it's a Normal/Flying type.

Why they did it this way, I really don't know. My only guess is that the makers of the games originally intended for flying to be something secondary, kind of like an ability, but before they had abilities. The reason it's still like this is for the sake of consistency with older versions.

I have to agree, as it was origionally named bird type, (see missingno)

A pure Flying type would have to be like, a cloud or something.

Uh... The only reason I can think of right now is that Roost would glitch the game if used on a primary Flying type. Yeah, that basically explains it. But that's what the ??? Type is for. Another reason is that Pokémon are usually based on real animals. They would have to choose some awesome kind of bird to make it pure Flying instead of the normal Swellow which is based on a Swallow, which is a quite normal bird. You get the typing. But I think that the primary reason is the Roost thingy, or GF just plain hates the Flying type.

A pure flying type would just be a bird. Pidgey could have been pure flying, Sperrow could have, Tallow could have, and Starly could have.

I have a feeling they won't break away from tradition and will keep flying as a secondary type to Normal or something else.

I also have no idea why there isn't any Pokémon which is pure flying. I doubt we'll ever get an answer from Game Freak.

My guess is that all the Normal/Flying Pokemon were going to be pure Bird-type, but when they removed the Bird-type (due to the fact that Charizard, Aerodactyl, and the Zubat line aren't birds), and replaced it with the Flying type, all of the Bird-types became Normal/Flying.

I've always wanted a pure flying type. I'm tired of my pigeot/swellow/staraptor always taking normal damage from fighting attacks.

It would be interesting if they did/have a pure Flying Type in Generation V. If there is going to be a pure Flying Type then I'll be lookin' forward to seeing it, if there isn't gonna be one then I won't be to disappointed.

P.S. Still angry that they didn't make Charizard Fire/Dragon and not Fire/Flying >_<

Unless I'm mistaken, the flying type was initially the bird type.

It was supposed to be the beta version of Flying, but you know. Zubat and such. They ain't birds. XD

I wouldn't mind there being a pure-Flying type. It's about time, really.

Birds are able to detect the weather (natural disasters) and able to detect other lifeforms (ghosts). The Normal-typing provides them immunity to Ghost-types, hence the ability to avoid Ghost-type damage.

I believe that is why they choose to pair Flying-type Pokemon with the Normal-type.

I think there should be a tornado-based pokémon that's pure flying.

But it probably won't happen.
