OK, so PUSA didn't like what Wizards of the Coast did with the card game and got the rights from them. Then they didn't like what 4Kids did with the show and got the rights to that too.

But both WotC and 4Kids actually *released* all the stuff they had the rights to, and yet Viz is allowed to keep their rights to the mangas even though they don't do anything with them? Where's the justice? Where's the fairness? Where's the rest of Special and MPJ?

So why hasn't PUSA absorbed the manga rights yet? It seems like it'd be a logical step considering Viz is jerking us around left and right. "Going on vacation" my ass--did they *ever* intend to bring MPJ back after that?

If pretty much every book store I go to is any indication, it is in the Pacific Northwest anyway. VERY popular. I see more people hanging out there than in any other section, including non-manga comics.

You could e-mail Pokemon.com and ask....since they actually respond to questions.

No one bought the Viz comics. The sales for the cards and Anime ratings were so much higher.

It's our fault.

PUSA probably realized that, y'know, it'd be kinda a waste.

Well, I think now if they released the real thing and not some stupid compilation volume people would buy it.

Maybe.

It seems PUSA atleast is motivating Viz with all the new Pokemon Manga coming out this summer. If those sell well, then MPJ could return....

I think Viz figures, "Why bother if people keep talking about how they'll just download the chapters online instead?"

Seriously, I've seen that said quite often.

The main problem with the manga releases was the price -- US$13.99 for one volume? Most manga nowadays sells for US$9.99 a volume, with only a few exceptions.

Is manga popular in America?

It can be, although it depends on the series. I know the naruto graphic novels have made it onto best sellar lists a few times, and I mean, best sellars lists for books IN GENERAL, not some specialized list.

There's no question that Manga is popular.

Just not the Pokemon Manga.

the problem with that is that pokemon USA and viz are like within the same place

becaus all the anime is liscensed by VIZ and so is the manga

plus Viz is a reputable manga company! and as far as MPJ and Pkkemon Special
inport them from singapore they are alot better over there!

The compilation books were shitty, yes. But their main purpose, as I saw them, was to gauge if there's still any interest in the old series after all these years. I remember urging people to buy them when they came out, but obviously, nobody did.

At the time Pokemon Adventures was released, $13.99 was the industry standard (as was flipping the artwork). Unflipped, cheaper manga collections didn't become standard until after Viz canceled the series.

That was the only reason I bought them. Otherwise I wouldn't have touched them since they suck. You don't take seven volumes and compress them down to two. That's pretty much what Yuen Wong Yu did with Digimon Adventure 02--took a 50-episode show and butchered it down to two volumes--and it entailed cutting out several VERY important scenes, most of them involving Ken and why/how he became Kaizer. I don't wanna read that, I wanna read what actually happened!

I completely agree. At the same time, I think Viz wanted to take another crack at the series without going through the expense of re-publishing several more volumes, so they just did two "Best of" collections instead.

If those had sold, then we most likely would have seen reprints of the volumes Viz already translated and, with any luck, translations of some of the more recent stuff.

yes yes, my question is why didn't they sell?
it was obvious they were kinda odd (for the whole compression thing) but it was also obvious that they were trying to bring back the series!

Because they sucked. I doesn't matter if someone is trying to bring back something, if it sucks, then there's no reason for it to sell! Maybe you've heard of the horrible comeback of a random franchise. If it was horrible, why would you have any reason to see the movie or buy merchandise?

It's not as if that isn't done with oher Manga. The only difference is that we don't actually have much of a choice in the matter when it comes to Pokemon.

yes but pokemon special was awesome and the only reason I boutgh the best of was because UI wanted it to come back
