Kochi Prefecture Ambassador Pokémon Quagsire
On November 11th, Quagsire was ceremonially signed in as the official Ambassador Pokémon for Kochi Prefecture, making it the twelfth Pokémon to be given the honor. The Ambassador Pokémon promotion is sponsored by Pokémon Local Acts, a program designed to drive tourism by “highlighting [the] well-known and not so well-known charms,” of various localities in Japan through events and activities. Pokémon Local Acts may be best known for Poké Lids, utility hole covers with Pokémon designs which are located all throughout the country.

The amphibious Quagsire was chosen as Kochi Prefecture’s Ambassador Pokémon due to the area’s high concentration of forests and rivers, “where one can easily picture Quagsire leisurely swimming.” Though details are currently sparse, promotional merchandise and events featuring Quagsire, such as a stamp rally and an event where visitors can meet the new Ambassador Pokémon, will be coming soon to the region. Kochi Prefecture is one of few places left in Japan to not have Poké Lids, but Pokémon Local Acts has announced their intent to place them in all 34 cities and towns in the prefecture.

In addition, one of the street cars that operates in the prefecture's capital city of Kochi has been decorated inside and out with Quagsire, and began operation on November 11th.
