Question about Berry Growing

Hey guys, I've checked all the sites I usually go to for info, and can't get a straight answer.

I'm trying to grow some rare Amity Square berries, but I want to know more about the process before I put them in the ground. How dependant on constant watering are they? Say I put a berry that has a full growth time of 60 hours into the ground, with some mulch, whatever kind, and only water it once a day. Will it die? Does it require one water per cycle minimum or does that just give you more berries?

If some Pokemon Horticulture Prof could take pity on me and give me a general rundown, I'd be most grateful...

I'm not an expert on berry growing either, but what I did in Diamond was water the plants whenever I saw the soil around them a little bit dry. This tactic eventually resulted in me obtaining 11 Pamtre berries from one berry tree in one go. The mulch helped alot too
