Question about online trading

Okay, I know that when you set up a trade in the Global Trade Station, you can request the Pokemon you wish to receive to be a particular species, gender, and level. I also trust that, when trading for any Pokemon whatsoever, that the Pokemon in question is legitimate (not hacked or glitch-based), because most likely, anyone who creates their own Pokemon would have no use for trading. However, I never read anywhere that you could request that it be holding a specific item or know any particular moves.

For those of you who don't have physical friends to trade with (and I'm one of those), let's say you wanted to evolve a certain Pokemon that only evolves by being traded. Unless the other party you're dealing with has a Pokemon you don't have and that can only evolve by trading, you obviously wouldn't want your hard work of raising your Pokemon to be wasted by letting the other party have your Pokemon. Would you actually trust other online players to give you your Pokemon back?

Furthermore, most of these Pokemon require a hold-item while being traded in order to evolve. If you were about to receive, say, an Onix through a trade, would you trust the other party to actually equip it with a Metal Coat?

Why am I asking this? Well, I once asked a friend of mine online to see if, assuming he had a DS and a copy of Diamond or Pearl, if he would be willing to trade and trade back to help me evolve my Kadabra into an Alakazam. He actually got offended when I asked, and one of his arguments (among others) was that I would be getting an Alakazam while he wouldn't get anything in the deal (even though he wouldn't lose anything either).

So, even with that trading thread going on, how many of you actually trust other online Pokemon traders to help you evolve trade-only-evolving Pokemon?

Since I'm pimpin' and have access to two DSes and have all the GenIV main games, I just do the trade evos myself. Though I understand a lot of people don't have this level of access..

If I didn't have that level of access, I'd just pop on IRC and ask someone to do a quick tradeback for me. 'Course, there's also people who aren't into IRC..

..Then you have to resort to a forum, make a post on the trade coordination thread and wait for those nice people who'll do quick favors like that. I really don't get how someone can get so offended about tradebacks. It's not like it's really HARD or anything. As harsh as this sounds, it's not needed at all to give something OMFG SO GRATE for something like a freaking TRADEBACK. It's a TRADEBACK. It takes a whopping minute or so. Oh NO. :|

Personally, if I wasn't pimpin and did tradebacks myself, I'd trust someone to give me the Pokemon back. I mean, as long as you don't go on #SPP-WiFi or anything...

Most anyone in #Bulbagarden is trustworthy enough to ask for a tradeback. You could PM me if you ever needed to.

There's also another way to do trade evolutions by yourself (Without having to have 2 DS consoles and 2 D/P games). Offer a Pokémon on the GTS and ask for something impossible (I usually ask for a lvl 9 and under Alakazam). Then, while the Pokémon is up for offer, make an unrelated trade on the GTS (Search for a Pokémon, and make a trade). Then, go back to the Pokémon you offered and pull it out. Once you receive it, it should evolve.

Of course, I understand if you don't want to risk using that method since there are MANY hackers out there, but I've done it many times and it's worked fine.

I've seen too many examples of the GTS, and looks like everyone are always demanding Lv. 100 Garchomps or something like that. Not to mention people who try to pass their Arceus as a legitimate one... And yeah, I know that there are so many selfish people out there who can't be bothered. Fortunately, I can just use my sister's DS to get the Pokémon I want, and I already got Gengar, Dusknoir and Rhyperior that way.

Well, if that really works, I can just get my bleeping connection to work, I'll still give it a try. Or does that only apply to Pokémon like Alakazam and Machamp, or does that also mean Scizor and others who evolve when they hold items?

Yes, it works for any trde-based evolution method.

Don't ask for something lv 9 and under Alakazam. That is at the top of the alphabet and most likely people are ready with Alakazam hacks. (Received a lvl 2 Abomasnow while trying to clone Mew ;_; a long time ago).
Choose something like a lvl 9 and under Mothim, Torterra etc.

I keep reading about people trading hacked Pokemon on the Global Trade Station. What's the whole point of that? Why would people bother trading with other players if they could just create their own Pokemon? That makes no sense at all.

Unless I change my mind, I think I'll just avoid the GTS entirely and only use wi-fi to obtain event items and Pokemon from Nintendo.com. (Although, I sure wish you could play the Underground on wi-fi.)

People want to:

a) Tick other people off because they enjoy being complete *censored*.

b) Get legit Pokémon that others might be trying to evolve or hold on to.

or c) Do it just because they can.

yeah, once upon a time someone was looking for a graveler, for their graveler. So we traded, and got a golem each. He got the better offer, though, the graveler I gave him was lvl 50.

Those are two of the reasons people make computer viruses and spam/flam forums and chat rooms.
