Question about Pocket Monsters manga (yes, the ugly Pippi one)

I've been searching for info on this series, but sadly, no one but Dogasu's site seem to have anything useful of it at all. It's been a long hunt and the results have been, well, disappointing. :(

And no, I'm not asking for scans (though that would be really cool :p)

My questions are:

How many tankoubons of Pocket Monsters were released? And, do you guys know where I can see the covers?

Til now I've found covers 1-14, but since -I think- the manga is still going on, there must be more of them, something about 30.

Help?

Thank you.

The Pocket Monsters manga has only 14 Tankobons.

But it has a sequel series (by the same author) named Pocket Monsters RS. It has 6 or 7 Tankobons.

The newest sequel is Pocket Monsters DP (from the same author, too) and its first Tankobon is already out.

Both sequels feature Red, Pikachuu and of course Pippi :)

So, Pocket Monsters isn't going on but it's sequel IS.

Well, I've found all the covers yesterday, but thanks for trying to help. ^_^

@Blackjack: Wah? Are you sure? The DP Cover that I saw still has Pippi on it... that would be pretty awesome, though.

I honestly don't see why people hate the artwork so much. It's not the best, but it's hardly as bad as some of you guys make it out to be.

Well, seeing that it is a gag manga, maybe the art is ment to look awful for comedic effect

Wow, I thought Blackjack double posted for half a second o_O

And I really don't see how it's a knockoff of Toriyama's style (which I assume you also don't like?). They don't have any of the trademarks (the eyes, the hairstyles, the clothing styles) that Toriyama puts in all his manga.

Also, please tell me you're not making these statements based on the scans I have up on my website. Because that first volume was created back in 1996; Anakubo Kousaku's art has evolved as the series goes on.

Different != bad.

That's why I look at the username and not the avatar. :p

I'm afraid my knowledge of the Japanese language/culture is a bit rusty. What is a tankoubon?

A tankouban is the same thing as a graphic novel...basically, every seven or eight monthly installments of a manga, the publisher will compile them all into a book.

Well, like I said, I looked at a recent volume just a few days ago. Looked the same to me.

I've noticed a difference, but I'm also a fan of the manga, so I'd probably notice it more than someone who doesn't care for it.

Regardless, I do think it's really pathetic that you'd denounce a manga based almost solely on the artwork.

Yeah, there's plenty of other reasons to denounce this particular series. The juvinile gross-out humor and the tenuous at best connection to the franchise its supposed to be representing in the first place being bigger complaints for me, anyways.

I've seen more juvenile gross-out humor in stuff like Dragon Ball and Ebichu. Do you not like those series as well?

And if you want a tenuous connection, look up something like Magical Pokemon Journey. At least Pocket Monsters features things like Gym Leaders and events from the games.

Like the people who denounce One Piece "cuz it looks like a Cartoon", and think Naruto is way better despite it having some of the blandest art ever (especially in Part II), when One Piece easily succeeds Naruto in every way.

Eh... It doesn't surprise me that people don't like this manga much... apart from the art, it has a type of comedy sorta like Konni-chan, a bit too japanese for most people's tastes. But there's no need to bash it...
