I am thinking of purchasing a Super Famicom off of Ebay. But I have a question regarding it, and was hoping if anyone could answer:

Will a Japanese Super Famicom work on a North American (Canada, United States) outlet?

Thanks.

You actually won't even need that. Just plug the system into the wall and you should be fine.

Actually... hold on a sec..

I wonder if it is different for the S.Famicon.. My best friend had one growing up, but when he moved to America he said the power had shorted it (but fit the outlet just fine). Something or other. I know now a-days it's compatible and I know the Famicon is compatible (I have one).. but there may be some versions of it that aren't.

Really? Because my American Wii works fine in Japan. Same thing with my Japanese PS2 in America.

According to a question I found similar to this issue (except it's a Saturn, not Super Famicom), here's the following:

4.5 Can I run my Japanese Saturn using a North American outlet or
visa versa?
-----------------------------------------------------------------

A cautious yes.

Japan actually runs at a really bizarre 100 VAC. This is completely
different just about every place else on the globe which run between
110 and 240 VAC. North America runs anywhere between 110 and 125
VAC depending on location, with 115 VAC being the commonly accepted
average.

Most people have experienced little to no trouble with the 10 to 25%
difference in voltage. Others have said it'll work, but the Saturn
will run a little hotter than normal.

If you want to play it safe, the use of a simple step-up converter
would be wise.

^ So is all of the above true for not just Saturn or Famicom, but for any other Japanese consoles as well? I don't doubt you, Dogasu. I'm just a bit paranoid here...

Transformers are like 15$ or so nowadays. Why not just buy one to be on the safe side?
