Question on how to battle

This is going to sound really stupid, but I have never done WiFi battles before, or barely any online gameplay on Pokemon games for that matter.

Seeing youtubers do Wifi battles with six level 100 Pokemon confuses me because the Poke Center women's place for random matchup only allows three Pokemon at level 50, so how are they doing it?
Is there another way to do this without getting someones friend code, battle subway or another part I'm missing out?

Edit: And also, what is a "metagame" that I read about a lot? And finally, what is the standard tier that the youtubers do? all this overused, uber, etc confuses me.

To battle 6 v. 6, you use the Wifi Club (the middle room). In order to be able to battle, you must exchange FC's. Random Matchup is the flat battles and requires no FC exchange. The only way you can 6 v. 6 is via the Wifi Club (though I think you may be able to do it over local IR).

The metagame refers to true competitive battling. Tiers like uber, overused, underused, etc. are what govern what pokemon are allowed to be used in a battle. (OU/overused is standard meaning every pokemon that isn't an uber is allowed. See smogon for details.) Competivive battling is done on the assumption that all pokemon are flawless (unless they run Hidden Power) and EV trained. Casual battling is mainly for fun and usually doesn't involve IV's. EV's, natures, or the 50ish pokemon you see all the time.

If that makes any sense.

That makes perfect sense. Now all I need to do is train up a good team and get some competitive battles going. :)
